People thought someone would become a mindless monster because of the unidentified virus. Many people panicked and tried to avoid contact with others.
If someone turned into a monster, their family would be shunned by everyone, or worse, burned alive to stop the spread of the virus.
"I told you about my brother Levi, right?" Lucian continued without waiting for Medeia to answer. "I didn't know then that he became the Lost because his mind couldn't cope with the wrecked world."
Lucian watched his brother slowly lose his light and smile, but he didn't try too hard to cheer him up. He thought Levi would be fine once he adjusted to the new world, but in the end, he couldn't.
