Chapter 11 - Fertilize the Soil

Medeia gathered the soil from the village and put it into two buckets. She took the stone of fertility and tried to activate the item.

[Activating an Item: Stone of Fertility]

[Reducing HP by 5%]

The stone emitted a bright green light for a few seconds before its color darkened.

[The Stone of Fertility is active]

"Then, what should I do next? Just bury it in the soil?" asked Medeia to the system.

[It doesn't matter as long as the stone touches the soil]

Medeia decided to bury them inside the soil, but what next? What was the point of fertilizing the soil if she had no seeds?

"Should I go back to the forest and look for edible plants?" murmured Medeia.

Yesterday, she didn't have time to look for edible plants because of the falcon. Moreover, the ratio between plants that devour humans and plants that humans can eat was 10:1.

[Host can exchange tomato and potato seeds with your gold coins]

"Why didn't you tell me from the start?!" Medeia grunted. "How much?"

[300 gold coins for each seed]

Medeia widened her eyes. "Are you trying to rob me or what?! That's so expensive, damn it!"

[Mild foul language detected! Penalty -10 C-Point]

"Oh, shut up!" Medeia had the urge to slam the bucket and forget the mission of revitalizing the soil. However, she tried her best to suppress that feeling and said, "Can you lower your price?"

[The price is not negotiable. If the Host does not want to use gold coins, then the Host can also use C-Points to buy something from the system]

"Great. How much?"

[700 C-Points for each seed]

Medeia slammed the bucket to the ground and stomped on it several times. She had earned those damn points like a dog, even trying her hardest not to curse so the system would not deduct her points.

However, the system gave her an unreasonable price. Her remaining C-Points were 850, if she used 700 C-Points to buy one seed, then she couldn't curse at all with the remaining points.

"Alright." Medeia took a deep breath and said, "I will use the gold coins. 2 tomato seeds and two potato seeds."

[Request Accepted]

[Exchange 2 tomato seeds and 2 potato seeds to 1,200 gold coins]

[Do you want to take the seeds from the Inventory? (YES/NO)]

Medeia immediately clicked 'YES' and four seeds suddenly appeared from nowhere. Medeia caught the seeds, then took the bucket that was slightly bent because of her kick.

She put the seeds into the soil and carefully placed the bucket at the window.

[Your mission will be completed once the seeds grow into tomatoes and potatoes]

Medeia grunted because that would take at least two days.

"What are you doing?"

Medeia turned her head when she heard Lucian's voice. She was stunned for a moment because his face looked more handsome after he took a bath.

"Oh, I'm sorry. Did I startle you?" Lucian felt terrible because he didn't knock on her door before he talked. "Sister Jeanne made breakfast, so she wanted me to call you and... thank you for the water. This is the first time I can take a bath without worrying about monsters."

"No problem. You can come in." Medeia smiled widely at him, feeling happy because she could see a handsome face first thing in the morning. "I'm trying to grow crops with the stone from the forest."

Lucian, "What seeds did you plant?"

"Tomatoes and potatoes." Medeia knew it was hard to find these seeds, so she immediately made up an explanation. "I got these seeds from someone a long time ago. The quality is not that good, so I'm not sure if the seeds can still grow."

"Wait a moment," Lucian said before he left the room.

Medeia tilted her head because she didn't understand why Lucian would rush off the room?

But not long after, he returned with his bag. Medeia was speechless as he took out several bags of crop seeds from his bag.

"My mom loved to garden in our house, so she packed a lot of seeds when we left home." Lucian's eyes went soft when he talked about his mother. "Unfortunately, many seeds went bad and I could only keep five packets of seeds."

Lucian handed them to Medeia. "I think these seeds might be more useful in your hands."

Medeia looked down at the seeds in his hand, each packet labeled with a different plant name. Her hands trembled slightly when she took them.

She used to receive many luxury gifts from the demon king, but none of them could compare to those dusty, old, seeds.

In the apocalypse, those seeds were worth more than gold, and the system even gave an unreasonable price for them. But Lucian gave these precious seeds to Medeia for free.

How could he be so kind in such a cruel world?

"Are you sure? Isn't this your mother's legacy?"

Lucian gave her a warm smile. "My mom would be happy if someone planted these seeds. I often move from place to place, so I don't get a chance to grow them."

He continued, "Please, take them. Just think of them as my gratitude for letting me stay in this nice place for one night."

Medeia startled when she heard his last words. "Wait, are you leaving today?"

"I have only come to take you home. He said, "Everyone in this village is a good person, and I don't have the heart to burden them. If I stay too long, there will be an extra mouth to feed."

Medeia held his hand unconsciously. "No. Don't go."

She bit her inner lips, ashamed that she had done such a shameful thing. Back then, it had never occurred to her that she would be so desperate to keep a human at her side.

Before Lucian could reply to her words, Medeia explained, "I-I mean, even though there is one extra mouth to feed, the village will also get extra manpower to work."

"If I manage to fertilize the soil in the village, I'll need many hands to help me plant crops. So, maybe you can help me and you can also watch your mom's seeds grow." Medeia asked anxiously, "What do you think?"

Lucian didn't say anything for a moment, making the anxiousness in Medeia's heart increase. Not only did she not want her future husband to leave her, Medeia also thought Lucian's knowledge of the apocalypse would be useful to her.

He had moved around from one place to another, so he had a lot of knowledge about monsters and medicines plants.

"Okay." Medeia breathed a sigh of relief when she heard Lucian say, "I can stay here for a while."
