Chereads / Invincible: Another Darkness / Chapter 3 - The Black Tower

Chapter 3 - The Black Tower

Once I heard the pop, I rubbed my arm on the ground wiping the dead warrior off me and leaving them to the elements. As I approached the fortress city covered in my webs, I realized I could've corrupted that warrior, turned them into a force of evil instead of just killing them. Having that thought in my head I slapped myself in the face and dragged my hand down.

"I should've used them as my instrument of destruction."

Once I was done with that thought I shrugged my shoulders.

"Oh well, there's always next time"

Stepping over them, I loomed over the city with all their terrified citizens and their warriors scrambling around gathering weapons, with some trying to pierce the netting I put over them.

With a wicked smile, I put one of my hands on the net and fused with it, spreading my body across the city readying myself to conquer the first city, it would make an excellent birthday present I believe the motals call it. Then once I had spread my essence across the city, I formed small spikes on the net pointing downward, much to the confusion of the masses. Well, well most of them a few were clever enough to see what was happening and find cover.

I then sent my spikes downward, destroying their buildings and shops, piercing anyone dumb to be caught by them. A hundred died almost immediately, others were crushed by the buildings collapsing all around them.

The city they all spent so much time building, so much material, and manpower, all wasted and destroyed in a moment. I began to spread my essence not over the netting, but into the city proper, spreading a liquid-like version of my darkness, my being.

I planted new trees of darkness into the earth, and they sprung up with steel-like branches and bodies pierced on them. Their blood would stream down them, frightening the mortals, and causing them to flee in panic. A few tried to exit the city through the openings of the net, but well it would fail. The very moment the first ones tried to make it through, their bodies got stuck and began to be absorbed by the net.

They were still alive as the net throttled them around, absorbing their life force and sucking them dry, making them shriveled and old. Their bodies were strung up for all the city to see and fear, the children cried and hugged their parents, while they covered them up hoping I would spare them.

In a way they were right, once this little rampage was done the city was quivering in fear of me and my power. It didn't take long, with the rampant death throughout the city soon enough the inhabitants bowed down to me, some even forcing their more willful family members as well.

Once it was done I slimmed my body and snuck into the city, appearing amongst the largest crowd gathered. There were tears and shaking, they were all afraid of my mere presence, which was good.

"Greetings mortals I am Byoki, the new master of this planet and the many that will follow suit."

"If you wish to continue your pitiful existence upon this world, you will construct statues and machines of war."

"The statues must match my likeness and be tall enough to be seen miles around."

"The machines however must enforce my will, they will be used to keep you all in check when I am not around."

"If you think of trying to rebel against me though."

I stretched my arm and grabbed the nearest person, some snot-covered coward who was pissing his pants as my hand grabbed his head. I effortlessly squished his head, causing his brain and head to scatter across the concrete.

"Well, you would know what would happen."

I said as I whipped the blood and brain bits off my hand on a nearby wall.

"So what are you all waiting for get moving, and for those who are useless in these endeavors spread tales of this to other cities, villages, everywhere it doesn't matter."

"Spread the name of Byoki!"

Of course, several mortals ran off, as I retracted the net back into my body, allowing the city to be free once more. A few though left behind still quivering in fear, probably thinking I knew who the mechanical engineers were and who could construct my statues. I didn't of course but they didn't need to know that and well it was a nice strategy for control.

They got up slowly as I began walking towards the center of this city, to construct what would become either my temporary base of operations or permanent but either one worked.

As I passed by a few of them, I saw a certain redness in their eyes as they cried their hearts out, probably thankful that they were still alive.

Bending down in the center of the city, I touched the very center of this place and my black goo poured out of me into the ground. Normally when I do something like this my corrupted trees or something similar. This time though I began to reshape the stone and all the minerals underground, and I stood back as a gigantic black tower rose with several spikes coming out of it, similar in style to my horns.

It was the tallest building in the city, albeit not the thickets if I'm using the term right but still sufficient to house my corporeal form. Entering it I would begin changing the inside colors of the pace, making it a dark sickley green to match my namesake of disease. Letting it have a more liquidy look like snot running down someone's nose, like a disease big enough for the mortal eye to see.

In the center at the very top or at least the room underneath the roof I formed a gigantic throne, one that would hold my body weight easily and give me some room to move around if I wished to change positions. It was demonic-looking in nature but it still matched the rest of my tower and I bent down taking a seat.

I smiled as I created a window looking over the city, making sure I could keep an eye on the place.

"Ahhhh this is nice, now all I need to do is await the worlds response to my little declaration."
