Chapter 13 - Atlantis Falls| Fish Guy Loses

Canonically, the Electro-Axe is what Steppenwolf's weapon is called, and its ability here is the canon one as well.

Arthur Curry charged at Steppenwolf, his powerful muscles tensing as he swung his trident with practiced precision. The air in the palace was heavy with tension, the deep rumble of their clash echoing through the watery halls. Steppenwolf, towering and menacing, grinned at the incoming attack.

"Perfect. I'll be sure to show mercy after your death, Atlantean," Steppenwolf taunted, dodging a thrust of the trident.

"It's Arthur, and what's your name again? Darkseid or something?" Arthur quipped, following the missed thrust with a swift punch that connected cleanly with Steppenwolf's jaw, sending the alien warlord stumbling back.

Steppenwolf snarled, regaining his footing. "It's Steppenwolf, and filthy fish like you shall not tarnish Darkseid's name!" he spat, swinging his massive axe like a bat. The blow hit Arthur square in the chest, sending him crashing through the palace walls and leaving a trail of shattered coral and stone in his wake.

Arthur groaned as he pushed himself up from the wreckage, dusting off his armor. Over his earpiece, he heard Mera's concerned voice. "Arthur! Are you okay?"

Grinning through the pain, Arthur rolled his shoulders, clearly enjoying the challenge. "Ah, stop worrying. I'm fine, Mera. Just been a while since someone made me try this hard."

Mera focused on evacuating the palace, couldn't help but smile at her husband's confidence. But deep down, she knew this was no ordinary fight.

Arthur stretched, his muscles rippling as he prepared for the next round. Steppenwolf broke down what remained of the wall, his imposing frame filling the gap as he walked through. "Glad to see you didn't run, fish."

"Hey, that's rude!" Arthur shot back, shaking off the debris. "Fish is rather offensive, y'know?" With a burst of speed, Arthur dashed toward Steppenwolf, their clash causing shockwaves that rippled out into the surrounding waters, felt for miles.

Bruce's Observation

Back in Gotham, deep within the BatcaveBruce Wayne sat cross-legged, eyes closed in meditation. He was using a technique he'd learned during his time with the League of Shadows, allowing him to rest while staying mentally alert. But even in his meditative state, the world's dangers never truly left his mind.

Suddenly, his gauntlet beeped softly, pulling his attention away. Bruce opened his eyes and checked the data flowing in—a beacon he had left near the Atlantic Ocean was detecting constant vibrations. Arthur Curry, or "The Fisherman" as some of the locals had called him, was in action.

"...So, that's where you are..." Bruce muttered, looking over the readings. The vibrations were consistent with heavy combat, but the Atlantic was vast, and he still had only a vague idea of where Arthur was. He could try to reach him, but the chances of providing proper support in time were slim.

Bruce sighed, his mind already working through a dozen contingency plans. He had hoped Arthur would agree to join their efforts, but it looked like the King of Atlantis was on his own.

The Clash in Atlantis

Back in Atlantis, Arthur Curry was battling fiercely against Steppenwolf. He blocked another deadly slash from Steppenwolf's axe, the force of the blow sending shockwaves through the water. With a mighty heave, Arthur grabbed Steppenwolf by the ankle, lifting the massive warlord with both hands and hurling him through the palace's outer walls.

Without missing a beat, Arthur sped forward, his natural speed in water allowing him to close the distance in seconds. With a thrust of his trident, he impaled Steppenwolf, driving the weapon deep into the alien's armor.

"Tch... damn Atlantean," Steppenwolf growled, his voice strained as his body stopped moving. Blood seeped into the water, and Arthur, battered and wounded with a deep gash across his abdomen, let out a heavy breath.

"Hah...hah...that's what you get... for the fish joke..." Arthur chuckled, his voice tinged with exhaustion. His body screamed with pain, but the fight seemed over. The battle-worn king glanced around, surprised to see a large crowd of Atlanteans had gathered, watching the entire confrontation unfold.

As the crowd began clapping, Arthur, slightly taken aback, raised his trident in a victory salute. "Oh... um, thanks, everyone!" he said, still adjusting to his role as king and the attention that came with it.

But his moment of triumph was short-lived.

Steppenwolf's axe, the Electro-Axe, floated through the water, its surface gleaming. Arthur noticed it too late as he lifted it triumphantly above his head.

Suddenly, Steppenwolf, who had only been pretending to be unconscious, let out a cruel laugh. "You show far too much mercy, Arthur Curry!" His hand flicked, and the Electro-Axe activated. A surge of electricity and heat exploded outward from the weapon.

Arthur, already injured, was caught in the blast. The shockwave sent him hurtling through the water, his body going limp as the electrical surge knocked him unconscious.

Steppenwolf staggered to his feet, heavily wounded but still alive. His mouth opened, but only bubbles escaped as he tried to speak. He quickly realized his voice gear had been damaged in the fight. "Ahem, sorry for that, Atlantean King," Steppenwolf thought to himself as he struggled to regain his balance. "Forgot my swim gear."

Grabbing his axe, Steppenwolf raised it high once more. "Now then," he whispered, though his words were lost in the water. With a flick of his hand, he opened a Boom Tube, and a swarm of Parademons poured out, their wings buzzing as they descended on Atlantis.

Mera, who had just witnessed Arthur being blown back, screamed in panic. Acting swiftly, she formed a water lasso with her hydrokinesis, pulling Arthur's unconscious body toward her. Her heart pounded with fear and fury as she looked toward the oncoming swarm.

"Retreat," Mera whispered to herself. Her eyes hardened as she glanced one last time at the palace and the swarm overtaking it. Atlantis... had fallen.

Without another word, Mera turned and swam swiftly into the deep with Arthur, disappearing into the vast ocean as the capital of Atlantis was overwhelmed by the invaders. Steppenwolf's laughter filled the water as the Parademons began their conquest.
