Chapter 4 - Chapter 3 The First Game

Time Left: 00:00:00

When the Timer had hit zero, a buzzer sounded and once again, the whole classroom was teleported. Once everyone came to their senses, they found themselves in a new location.

Everywhere you looked, there were trees everywhere. Apparently, the students were teleported into some kind of forest. Before the students could say anything the mysterious voice sounded once again.

[Welcome to the Dark Forest. Round 1, Begin. White makes the first move. Time: 10:00. If there is no clear winner when the Timer reaches 00:00 Round 1 is a Draw. Win Condition: Kill the King, or King surrenders. Lose Condition: King dead, or King surrenders. Timer starts when makes a move. Good Luck. Round Difficulty: ★]

The voice had disappeared as fast as it had appeared. Many were still confused due to the teleportation. Those who were fast on their feet were eyeing their now enemy across the board.

The people had "spawned" into this new location. Some of the squares had trees on them. Others had rocks. However, what was most surprising was that some squares had hills on them. It was clear that the "pieces" were encouraged to use the terrain to their advantage. However, only certain people with particular classes could take full advantage of the tourrain.

Spotting Arthur in the center, Alex says, "I'm sorry, it has to be this way"

"Start the game, already!" yelled Arthur with an annoyed expression. Every student still had their school uniform on, barely offering any protection.

Alex was about to start the first game when a realization hit him. None of us know how to play this game! We're screwed! "Does anyone know how to play chess?"

When the camp heard the inquiry, many started murmuring among themselves. Then one of the students yelled out, "If you think about your Class, then all the available moves of your Class will appear in front of you!"

When people heard that, a lot of them tried to do it but failed. What they got instead was a system notification.

[Invalid move. Open the path to move forward]. The only ones who were able to achieve their desired result, were those with the Knight Class, and the "pawns". When one of the "pawns" tried to move forward, what appeared before them was the option to move either one, or two squares forward. The "pawn" had to mentally choose their desired option.

When the e2 "pawn" saw Arthur, he snickered to himself, and decided to be the first one to step forward to e4. When he did the Timer started ticking

Time: 9:59

Seeing this, Arthur bravely moved to e5. Then the "pawn" on d2 decided to move to d4 and challenge Arthur White. Both of these "pawns" were people who bullied Arthur on the regular.

Seeing the d2 "pawn" move, Arthur decided to take this chance to test his abilities. He took the chance and decided to "capture" the "pawn" on d4. When he selected the option to "capture" in his mind, both him and his opponent were transported into another dimension[like in Pokemon]

When the both of them came to their senses, what greeted them was a circular platform surrounded by trees. At first they were dumbfounded and didn't know what to do, until a system message appeared.

[Eliminate your opponent in the given time frame. If your HP reaches 0, you die. Time: 3:00. Ready. Fight.]

When the announcements finished, the Timer automatically started. Needless to say, Arthur attacked his opponent without reservation. However, what he discovered left a frown on his face. Each attack cost him 4 Stamina Points. Furthermore, due to his low Accuracy(ACR), it took him 190 attempts before he would actually land a hit on his opponent, and that's with 5% Accuracy rate. This means that those with 1% Accuracy were screwed. Those with 1% Accuracy rate would need 680 attempts before they would land a hit. Not to mention, Arthur had a 4% dodge rate. His opponent had no chance. Even though it took a while, Arthur was able to take his opponent out before the other had a chance to land a punch. As a farewell, Arthur said, "Read the Instructions next time." Once the battle finished only Arthur was teleported back. However, he was standing on d4 now, signaling that he "captured" his opponent, as if his opponent never existed in the first place.

When the people saw what happened, many of them started to panic. Meanwhile, Jullia and Arthur were staring at each other, waiting for the other party to make a move. Finally, Jullia was the first to break eye contact, choosing to ignore Arthur. He's just a weak pawn. She told herself.

"YOU LITTLE PIECE OF–" yelled the c2 "pawn" in frustration. being unable to take the humiliation, the c2 "pawn" decided to challenge Arthur, thinking his victory to be a fluke.

Seeing the "pawn's" actions, Arthur smirked. You haven't had enough, huh?

Arthur and the "pawn" were once again teleported to the circular battle arena, and once again, Arthur came out on top because his Accuracy stat was higher. It doesn't matter how strong you are if you can't land a hit right? Dxc3. Arthur has "captured" two "pawns" at this point, so the b1 Knight took notice of him.

"Hey Arthur was it? What are you doing? Huh?"

"Nothing. You saw what happened. Those guys were coming at me on their own. Naturally I retaliated in self defense."

"You are welcome to try, but do you really want to risk it? I mean, I am just a pawn after all."

"Fine. you are a pawn after all. You're not worth my time" said the "Knight" with a bored expression. Meanwhile, I can't believe that worked! Even though I could win against the knight, if I do, that will put me on the "Queen's" radar. I want to avoid that as much as possible. I am glad that no one outside of the "King" and "Queen" pair have read the yellow booklet. Even if you do read it, you won't know what the terms mean unless you are or were a chess player. Many of them are playing this game for the first time. Therefore, they don't know what happens when a pawn reaches the 8th or 1st ranks. Promotion! At this point many didn't know how to proceed. Then the c1 Bishop decided to act, so he moved to d2, thinking to challenge the "pawn". After Arthur saw the "bishop" move, he "captured" the "pawn" on b2 with ease. Finally what was left was the final boss – "The Rook" After the "Knight" moved from b1 to c3, not even caring in the least about the consequences of his actions, the final battle began.

Once again, Arthur and "THE ROOK" were teleported to a battle arena. It was a hard battle. His opponent dumped all his Attribute points into Intelligence, which means high magic attack damage. The only thing that saved Arthur was the 4% dodge chance. Even so, he barely survived with 1 HP and less than 10% of his Stamina pool[but succeeding in his "capture" nevertheless].

After his promotion, Arthur's stats temporarily increased.

[Congratulations to Arthur for successfully promoting to a Queen].

When everyone heard the announcement, panic settled in once again. This time, Jullia finally decides to take Arthur seriously. However, before Jullia's plans could come to fruition, an unexpected announcement was made.

[Black has resigned from the game. White has won Round 1★ by Resignation. Rewards: +8 EXP + 10 Bronze Coins. Wood League benefits have been applied as well.]
