The Extra Wants To Survive
A webtoon with mediocre story.
The main protagonist transmigrates into the body of a minor villain character in another webnovel he had read prior to his death.
Well, his character was literally doomed from the start.
So, with the help of his prior knowledge, he avoids immediate doom, builds a place to live, gains skills here and there, and picks up some suitable candidates for his harem along the way.
I have to admit that not making him overpowered was a good decision which kept the story going.
As for the character I possess currently...
Reynard Alistair.
It was mentioned that in the original web novel story, he was your typical spoiled noble brat, who harasses the main character as much as he could using his status.
And, in a certain incident, the main character saves Reynard's life, for which, his behavior changed.
As for the webtoon, EXTRA WANTS TO SURVIVE, Reynard's fate changed, due to the involvement of the protagonist of the webtoon, who was an extra character initially.
Due to his involvement, some part of the story got altered and, an organization, which was supposed to appear in the later parts, made it's entry quite earlier.
The organization named, The Night's Order, used Reynard's affection for one of the female leads to lure him into thinking that, if he successfully brings the protagonist to a certain place, then Reynard would get to get together with that female lead.
Their real plan was to assassinate the protagonist along with Reynard and take both of their bodies as one of the many sacrifices they offer to their God.
Well, fortunately, the protagonist was powerful enough to defeat the asassins.
On the other hand, Reynard was assassinated inside his room by his own maid, who happened to be an agent from that same organization, as they couldn't afford to let their identity be revealed.
And that was it.
"Young Master, is something wrong?" Evelyn's voice pulled me back from my thoughts.
I looked up, meeting her calm green eyes. She stood by the door, her hands folded neatly in front of her, her expression serene. But I knew better than to trust appearances.
"No," I replied, forcing a small smile. "Just lost in thought, that's all."
Evelyn nodded, her gaze lingering on me for a moment longer than necessary before she spoke again.
"Dinner will be ready shortly. Shall I escort you to the dining hall when it's served?"
"Yes, thank you," I said, maintaining a composed tone.
As soon as Evelyn left, I sat down at the desk in my room, my mind racing.
I knew how Reynard usually acted, but I was not able to immitate it, nor do I think it would have been productive.
My main focus now should be to find out exactly how far we are in the story.
If I were to survive, I needed clarity on when I was in the story.
The events surrounding Reynard's downfall hinged on key moments: the protagonist's growing prominence, the involvement of The Night's Order, Reynard's affection for that female lead, and most importantly, the main event, his assassination, happened during the spring break of Reynard's sent up to second year at the Magic High School.
First, I needed to figure out the exact timeline.
I had the choice of asking Evelyn or any other servants in this mansion, but in that way, Evelyn would definitely get air of my strange behavior.
That would have been too risky.
Well, for the time being, the biggest threat for me is Evelyn herself.
The estate library was my best bet.
Reynard Alistair wasn't a scholar by any means, but even he would occasionally skim through books to appear well-read.
That gave me an excuse to "read" without raising suspicion.
More importantly, libraries were often stocked with journals, calendars, and records—perfect for piecing together the timeline.
Or so I thought.
---
After dinner, I told Evelyn, "I'll be in the library for a while. Ensure I'm not disturbed."
"As you wish, Young Master," she said, a weirdly soft smile creeping onto her face, bowing slightly before disappearing down the hall.
Fuck!
That sent chills down my spine.
Usually she is expressionless, but even a subtle change in her expression means only one thing.
Something big is going to happen.
And that 'something' might very well be my assassination.
Time was running out.
---
The library was quiet, with shelves stretching up to the high ceiling. I moved quickly, searching for anything that could help me figure out where we were in the story.
Well, there was a famous journal in the webtoon which was used to give information about major events happening around the world.
Fortunately, the library was just next to my room.
It was quiet and dim, with rows of towering bookshelves.
I searched every shelf, looking for The Chronica Gazette, a journal that was supposed to record major events.
As for how I could understand the language, everything was in English in the first place, so there was not much complications there.
I was frantic.
Desperately searching for a clue, which would give me an idea of the current timeline.
Written records of any major event would also have been fine too.
However, to my disappointment, I couldn't find a single evidence.
It wasn't there.
In fact, nothing in the library mentioned the date or time.
It felt... wrong.
The air felt heavy, wrong, as if the room itself was watching me.
--------------
Then, the candles flickered.
One by one, they went out.
Darkness swallowed the library, wrapping around me like a cold hand.
My breath hitched as shadows stretched and danced along the walls.
A faint sound, like soft footsteps, came from behind me.
I turned slowly, my heart pounding in my ears.
------------------
Evelyn stood there, holding a single candle.
The flame flickered, casting eerie light across her face.
Her green eyes seemed darker, sharper, as if they saw right through me.
Her smile wasn't comforting—it was chilling.
My legs felt like stone.
Then, the realization hit me.
This was the night.
The night Reynard was supposed to die.
And now, so might I.
