I finished my stew and pushed the bowl to the other side of the bar for the innkeeper. I downed my water and pushed my cup beside the bowl. When the innkeeper came to retrieve my dishes, I asked if I could have some wine. He looked to Callan for permission, who only nodded once. I noticed Callan had only taken a few bites of his stew.
"Are you not hungry?" I asked. I hadn't seen him eat anything at all the entire ride here. I had snacked on nuts and dried fruits given to me by one of Finnan's servants before we rode off. Callan had refused to take any.
"I am not."
The innkeeper sat a goblet of wine in front of me. Without even inspecting it, I downed its entire contents. It was sweet like honey and berries. Much better than any wine or ale I had ever tried before. But then again, everything seemed to be better here in No Man's Land. Both Callan and the inkeeper's eyes widened. I wiped my mouth with the back of my hand.
