Chapter 36 - Chapter Thirty-Six: Evolution

Chapter Thirty-Six: Evolution

It was a run of uncertainty and tiredness, Dusken had made the armoured knight fall with a single slash of his sword. His gaze moved from the scene below him as he scrutinized his blade.

It was coated in dark flames that rose, making it look like a demonic sword used for suffering.

Without thinking anymore, he dashed forward, running at full speed. However, his thoughts rapidly churned from within.

'What was that power? It feels like my dark flame has subtly evolved, though, I feel like its evolution is incomplete.' Dusken pondered as he ran. His muscles screamed with every motion.

The carpet was smooth to the touch of his boots and the walls of the corridors were ancient with rough surfaces.

The eerie light of the touches planted on the wall shone in the hall, giving it a dark, ominous feeling that reflected his inner emotions and dilemma.

Dusken made the dark flame move from the blade to his body to enhance his capabilities.

The dark flame didn't become a tattoo like it did previously, instead, his body suddenly lit up with the black fire.

Even so, he didn't feel any heat, all he felt was a cold, chilling sensation that made his speed drastically increase.

His strength had been doubled, although not to the extent of level two; Dusken was certain that the strength he possessed right now might be comparable to when his Abysmal point touched the hundreds.

Not far ahead of him was Ebon who ran with lurching steps. Dusken sensed through the shadows of the dimly lit hall, observing the knight as he ran.

A mysterious force was pulling all the scattered metal parts together to form the knight once more.

The harrowing entity was once again re-assembled in all its dreadful, vile glory.

It took large strides on the red carpet of the corridor as it charged forward like a mad bull. Its heavy steps sent tremors running through the hall.

'Curse it.' Dusken cursed inwardly, the number of times he had cursed today was far more than the times of several years.

However, due to the augmentation of the dark flame, his speed drastically increased, making him look like a blur. He dashed down the hall with great speed as the knight pursued.

Soon, the corridor was no longer endless as a huge door appeared in his vision. He laughed inwardly while increasing his speed to the utmost limit.

The air in the hall whistled in his and the armoured knight's wake.

Ten metres, nine metres, eight metres…

The knight closed in on Dusken little by little. Suddenly, an inspiration struck him as he instructed Ebon through his mental connection with it.

Ebon stopped running; the greatsword it held was almost double its size but didn't seem to hinder its movements.

Staring fearlessly at the incoming armoured entity, it spun around as the air whizzed under the slicing of the greatsword.

When the armoured knight drew near Ebon, it lunged forward with its huge weight, not caring for the greatsword Ebon held.

However, what met its charge was the sword flying at it. Ebon had let go of the huge blade, letting it soar through the air, closing in on the knight.

The momentum was fearsome as it collided with the armoured being, sending a deafening sound ringing throughout the corridor.

The knight was blasted backwards from the collision, and Ebon fell to the ground due to the weight of the greatsword and the after-effects of its previous spinning.

'Success.' Dusken cheered himself internally while calling back Ebon.

Using the precious time given to him, he stretched his limits to the utmost capacity, increasing his speed to a terrifying level.

His eyes couldn't follow his advancement, causing him to slip up and fall with a low thud. Quickly stabilising himself, he dashed forward once more.

A minute later, the knight had already stood up and picked up its greatsword, pursuing behind him once more and making him grit his teeth from anger and frustration.

The knight ran faster, while Dusken became slower. The boost from his dark flame was the only thing making him run normally. Otherwise, he would have already collapsed.

The door was drawing nearer in his vision. However, it was then that another metallic sound was heard behind him.

Turning his head, Dusken stifled an angry shout from escaping his lips. The armoured entity wasn't only one like before but was now doubled.

Two knights were pursuing him now.

'Once I arrive at the door, everything shall be OK. Keep going Dusken, keep going.' Dusken thought as he kept straining his limits even further.

Inhaling deeply, he mustered all the strength possible within him and blasted outwards, the aftershock of his sudden burst in speed made the carpet fold slightly.

His vision blurred as he ran at the full speed of a level one enhanced by his dark flame.

Following his sudden burst, the knights also accelerated their pace and when they were near Dusken, they lunged at him like cats pouncing on a mouse.

'Death? I refuse.' He thought as he summoned a material card.

Contrary to what people might expect of him, Dusken suddenly stopped and ducked down, allowing the two large beings to fly above him and collide with the ground sending a resounding clang ringing in the area.

Without lingering more, he dashed forward once again, jumping above the scattered metals of the disoriented knights.

The dark flame on his body burned darkly, absorbing the light in the area and making the shadows grow darker wherever he passed.

The door was now before him, within his reach, just a few metres away, but then….

The sounds of the winds tearing apart reached his ears as he sensed through the shadows.

A huge greatsword was coming at his head and the spear was stabbing towards his rib.

The two knights had thrown their weapons forward in a last attempt to stop him.

Without any fear, Dusken turned around while raising his hands, allowing the weapons to hit his hands instead.

His bones creaked under the momentum behind the weapons and a snapping sound was heard as Dusken was blown away by the force, blasting open the door behind him and falling to the ground with a huge thud.

All life was blown out of him as he lay sprawled on the ground… Dead.
