Crobat, use Air Slash!"
"Persian, go for Crazy Fury Swipes!"
"Koffing, launch Sludge Bomb!"
Team Rocket instantly noticed Chris and, despite any hesitation, sprung into action.
Three Poké Balls were thrown, summoning Pokémon that had all reached their final evolutionary forms.
Chris surveyed the Pokémon before dismissing them with a glance.
LV45, LV47, LV48.
These ranks were equivalent to Executive-level Pokémon from the Volcano Project. These Pokémon were clearly under Team Rocket's command.
However, this wasn't Chris's first foray into the Volcano Project Dungeon.
"Use Psychic on Crobat."
"Double Kick on Persian."
"Water Shuriken for Weezing." Chris released two Poké Balls.
Greninja and Blaziken materialized near Chris, forming a protective line. Gardevoir hovered slightly behind, emanating psychic energy that shimmered in the air.
In the distance, Crobat darted forward with blinding speed, aiming an Air Slash at Chris. However, Gardevoir's psychic power ensnared it mid-flight. For most Pokémon, Crobat's speed would have been ghostly, but under Gardevoir's psychic net, it was as helpless as a bird caught in a trap.
In that instant, the air quivered. Crobat's nerves seemed to snap, its vision faded, and it collapsed unconscious.
Psychic, being doubly effective against the Poison-type Crobat, ensured its defeat. Adding Gardevoir's level advantage sealed the deal.
[Defeated Crobat LV48. Gardevoir gains 733 EXP.]
Reports quickly followed from Greninja and Blaziken.
[Defeated Persian LV47. Blaziken gains 824 EXP.]
[Defeated Weezing LV45. Greninja gains 559 EXP.]
While Gardevoir dispatched Crobat, Blaziken engaged Persian. The feline darted forward with claws extended, but Blaziken evaded with swift movements, countering with a well-aimed kick. The first strike landed hard on Persian's flank, and before the second kick could connect, Persian was blasted away by Force Palm's concentrated energy.
Persian, a Normal-type, stood no chance against Fighting-type moves like Double Kick and Force Palm, both delivering double damage. The battle ended in an instant.
Greninja concluded its skirmish with Weezing. Its Water Shuriken intercepted the Sludge Bomb and struck Weezing with precision. Though it took a follow-up Water Shuriken to finish the job, Greninja's swift attacks left Weezing incapacitated.
Weezing was defeated with ease.
"There's a hard stubble here!" exclaimed a member of Team Rocket, their confidence shattered as their three Pokémon fell so easily to Chris. Without hesitation, they turned tail and ran toward their captain.
"Worthless fools!"
The woman issuing commands, currently engaged in a fierce battle with Pryce, glared at her retreating subordinates. Her voice was laced with venom as she shouted, "You cowards, go and deal with that trainer! All of you, now!"
Following her command, more Team Rocket members converged on Chris, releasing their Pokémon in quick succession: Crobat, Weezing, Persian, and Arbok.
As expected, many of the Rocket members from Kanto and Johto preferred Poison-type Pokémon, with Persian being a notable exception, likely inspired by Giovanni's own.
"Garchomp, Earthquake!"
"Tyranitar, Rock Slide!"
Chris swiftly released more Poké Balls. Garchomp initiated its Earthquake, sending powerful tremors rippling across the battlefield, the ground upheaving for hundreds of meters. Meanwhile, Tyranitar unleashed Rock Slide, summoning a barrage of massive boulders to rain down from the skies.
The combination was devastating. Ground attacks overwhelmed anything on the ground, while Rock Slide punished those attempting to take flight. Crobat, as a Flying-type, was particularly vulnerable to Rock-type moves.
One after another, prompts appeared in front of Chris:
[Defeated Crobat LV45. Tyranitar gains 673 EXP.]
[Defeated Arbok LV45. Garchomp gains 774 EXP.]
[Defeated Persian LV46. Garchomp gains 829 EXP.]
Chris noted the notifications with satisfaction. "A good place to train Pokémon," he muttered to himself, scanning for signs of more opposition.
Unfortunately, Team Rocket's underlings had already played all their cards. Their Pokémon were gone, leaving them no choice but to flee.
The grunts scrambled back to their commander. "Captain Sird! That trainer is too strong! We can't take him on!" they wailed.
Sird's face twisted with fury. "Useless! When did the standards for joining Team Rocket fall so low? Are all of you just cannon fodder now?" she hissed. Despite her insults, she issued a decisive order: "Withdraw the base supplies immediately! Carr and Orm, speed up your mission!"
Within moments, the Team Rocket members scattered, vanishing into the distance.
Now left alone, Sird stood her ground. Her focus had been on Pryce, but with the situation shifting, she began backing away, ready to retreat while her team escaped.
Chris recalled Tyranitar, Garchomp, and Greninja, leaving only Blaziken by his side. Gardevoir hovered close behind, its psychic energy shimmering faintly as they approached Sird.
Pryce turned to Chris, speaking urgently. "Young Trainer, leave her to me. You need to stop the red Gyarados! I've already alerted the Champion, who will be arriving soon."
He paused, adding one final warning: "Beware of Team Rocket's sneak attacks!"
Chris's eyes sharpened as a notification appeared before him:
[Limited-Time Mission: Stop the Red Gyarados from attacking Mahogany Town.]
[Success Condition: Hold out for 10 minutes (Bonus Rewards Available).]
[Failure Condition: Red Gyarados destroys Mahogany Town (Mission Failure).]
Understanding the stakes, Chris didn't hesitate. His gaze locked onto the notification as his legs sprang into action, propelling him toward the red Gyarados with all his might.
