On the train, there were people beside him. Chris didn't take out his handheld to play. He watched the novel and chatted with Amy.
After arriving at Dragon Station more than an hour later, they took a taxi to a nearby restaurant and had a meal before heading to the Flight campus of Dragon University to report.
The entrance of the university was crowded with people, and many students were traveling for the first time, so parents often accompanied their children.
However, it wasn't as lively as when he had come for the exam before.
After all, the number of people admitted to Dragon University is very small.
Seeing Amy, a senior who was helping some girls with their suitcases brightened up, but immediately noticed Chris.
He looked at Chris, then back at himself, muttering, "Man, why are all the handsome guys with the pretty girls these days..." and silently moved on to search for other students to assist.
It wasn't just the senior; even some senior girls were having similar thoughts.
After silently comparing their looks and figures to Amy's, they reluctantly looked away from Chris.
"Brother Chris, over here!" As Chris and Amy approached the entrance, they spotted a smiling senior with dimples waving at them.
It was Senior Sister Natasha. She had a volunteer badge hanging around her neck and was standing at a small registration table with several other seniors nearby.
Chris quickly walked over to Natasha with Amy.
"Sister, are you volunteering to help with new students again?" Chris asked, handing over his admission notice along with Amy's.
"No choice, my position in the student union makes me the go-to for this stuff," Natasha said, taking the notices and passing them to someone nearby for registration while staring at Chris.
"Come on, show me the big baby, I can't wait to see it!"
Everyone nearby glanced over in amazement.
Big... baby?
Amy and others stared at Chris in surprise. Isn't this Chris' second time at Dragon University? How did he already charm a senior, and why was she being so forward?
"Ahem, senior, you might want to be careful with your words. There are a lot of people around. I'll show you my Pokémon later," Chris quickly explained, coughing awkwardly.
A Pokémon like Kirlia always drew attention in a crowd, and if it was a Shiny Kirlia, it would be impossible to walk around unnoticed. Chris's plan to remain low-key and enjoy a quiet start to university life was quickly falling apart.
"Alright," Natasha nodded, content to wait.
Everyone nearby relaxed when they realized the "big baby" was just a Pokémon. Still, what kind of Pokémon was worth calling the big baby?
"Let me take you to the dormitory," Natasha said, leading the way with the now-registered admission notices.
"Let's drop off our friend at the battle department dorm first."
"Sounds good."
Chris and Amy followed her.
Poke.
Chris felt something sharp poking at his waist and looked down to see Amy's finger.
"Hmm?"
"What's the big baby?" Amy asked quietly, clearly curious.
"It's just a Shiny Kirlia," Chris replied casually.
"What?!!!" Amy's eyes nearly popped out of her head. "A Shiny Kirlia?!"
Immediately, everyone around turned to look again, as both "Shiny" and "Kirlia" were major attention-grabbers!
"Keep it down, everyone's staring," Chris said, exasperated.
Noticing the curious gazes, Amy blushed and whispered, "Are you serious?"
Her voice carried a hint of disbelief.
"I'm not joking."
"Then I want to see it too!" Amy stretched out two delicate fingers and gently tugged on Chris's sleeve.
It felt like a charm, but with an undeniable, almost commanding tone.
"Alright," Chris could only agree.
Natasha, who was leading the way, noticed the exchange and couldn't help but smile. "Should I take you to the Breeder Department's dormitory first?"
"Sure, thanks, senior," Amy replied.
The three of them dragged their luggage to a neat row of cottages. Each building had two floors and its own small courtyard filled with flowers and trees.
It looked like a cluster of mini villas.
"This is the dormitory for the Breeder Department. Do you have a preference on where you'd like to stay?" Natasha asked, holding a set of keys and giving Chris a look that implied she could arrange anything for him.
A villa for a student dorm? Chris was stunned. This university really knew how to take care of its students.
"Anywhere is fine with me."
"Then take the room inside. That way, people passing by won't be able to sneak a peek," Natasha said with a knowing smile, already predicting the kind of attention Chris's future would attract.
"Sounds good!" Chris agreed quickly, fully aware of the looks he'd been getting from Amy and Natasha.
They walked deeper into the dormitory area until they reached a corner near the edge of the island. Natasha led them to the farthest dorm.
"It's a bit out of the way for classes," she mentioned, opening the door and stepping inside.
The private courtyard had bluestone slabs leading from the gate to the cottage. A large tree stood just a few steps in, under which were a stone table and chairs covered in fallen leaves. Nearby, a swing hung from a low branch.
A spring bubbled gently in the corner, surrounded by vibrant plants, making it look almost like a tiny swimming pool.
There were even some old boxing targets near the house, though they were dusty from disuse.
"It's beautiful!" Amy exclaimed.
"These were left behind by the previous student who lived here. If you don't like them, you can take them down," Natasha offered.
Take them down?
How could they? Frogadier could use the pool, Kirlia would love the swing, and the boxing targets were perfect for Combusken and Makuhita. Plus, the stone table under the tree would be a perfect spot to relax and drink tea.
"Sister, how many people stay in such a large place?" Chris asked, debating whether he should claim the room for himself.
"It's just you," Natasha replied casually.
"Wait, I'm the only one living in this whole villa...?" Chris was genuinely shocked.
A villa for a student dorm, and one person per villa? The extravagance of this university was something else.
"How many students does this campus even accommodate?"
"Dragon University has four campuses. The Flight campus here only houses students from the Combat and Breeder Departments," Natasha explained.
"But only Breeder students get this kind of accommodation. You're the special ones here at Dragon University. Students in the Combat Department share dorms with two or three others," she added.
Amy shot an envious glance at Chris.
"Of course, if the two of you wanted to live together, the school allows that as well." Natasha gave them an amused, knowing look.
"Sister, Chris and I aren't in that kind of relationship!" Amy quickly clarified.
Natasha didn't seem to pay much attention to the explanation and instead turned her warm gaze back to Chris. "So, how about showing me that big baby now?"
