"Azumarill! Use Ice Punch!"
"Chinchou, use Discharge!" Leo and Jack shouted their commands in unison.
Chinchou and Azumarill, advancing from behind, coordinated their attacks to block Frogadier's escape routes from both the left and right.
"Two opponents closing in from both sides..." Chris muttered with a smirk. "Looks like there's no way out except through them."
"Frogadier, use Cut!"
Frogadier's face grew intense and focused, resembling a swordsman preparing for a duel. Despite being outnumbered by Chinchou and Azumarill, it boldly chose to face Azumarill head-on, moving swiftly.
A dark blue blur darted across the battlefield.
In a matter of moments, Frogadier closed the gap between itself and Azumarill. With incredible speed, Frogadier dodged Azumarill's frost-coated fist by a hair's breadth, slipping past with a smooth sidestep. Its kunai, sharp and cold, slashed diagonally from Azumarill's upper right shoulder to its lower left side.
If not for the protective measures in the Pokémon world, the blow could have been far more devastating.
Chinchou, on the other hand, lifted its glowing antennae and sent a barrage of sparking energy straight toward Frogadier's head.
Even though Frogadier attacked Azumarill, it seemed there was no escaping Chinchou's Discharge. Under normal circumstances, Frogadier would have taken the full force of the electric attack.
But this wasn't just any ordinary Frogadier.
"Quick Attack!"
Just as Chinchou's Discharge was about to land, Frogadier vanished, its speed surpassing Chinchou's ability to keep up.
*Swoosh!*
The sound of a clean slice echoed across the battlefield like a knife cutting through cloth.
A diagonal slash appeared across Chinchou's chest, narrowly missing its glowing antennae.
In the eyes of the audience, Frogadier, Azumarill, and Chinchou seemed to blur together, leaving only a faint "V"-shaped trail of light in the air—a testament to Frogadier's speed and precision.
Moments later, Frogadier stood behind its opponents, calm and collected, kunai in hand, looking every bit like a skilled swordsman who had just finished his duel.
*Thud...* Both Chinchou and Azumarill collapsed simultaneously.
The audience erupted into chatter.
"What just happened? How did Chinchou and Azumarill go down so fast?"
"Was that an instant knockout? I could barely see it—how is Frogadier this fast?"
"Taking on two opponents at once, and winning instantly! This Frogadier is on a completely different level! Is this trainer really just a recent high school graduate?"
But the most stunned of all were Leo and Jack, the defeated trainers.
Their mouths hung open in disbelief as they looked between Frogadier and their fallen Pokémon.
For a moment, they wondered if their eyes were playing tricks on them. But no matter how much they blinked or rubbed their eyes, their Pokémon still lay on the ground.
They were forced to accept the truth.
Their carefully trained Pokémon... beaten so effortlessly?
Just moments ago, they thought victory was in their grasp, but in the blink of an eye, they had lost everything.
"This reversal is a bit too underwhelming."
"Chinchou and Azumarill are unable to battle. Frogadier wins, and the final victors are Trainer Chris and Amy!" The referee, though slightly surprised, quickly announced the outcome.
"We... won?" Amy's eyes widened in disbelief. She looked at Frogadier, then turned her gaze to Chris, silently asking for an explanation.
Chris shrugged. "Of course we did. Our opponents weren't that strong—gave them a chance, but that's all they had."
Amy stared at Chris as if seeing him in a new light, then gave his shoulder a playful but forceful slap. "You're amazing! I had no idea you were this strong!"
"Ow! Amy, ease up!" Chris winced, rubbing his shoulder. He wasn't sure what Amy had been eating, but her strength was far beyond what he expected, and he almost choked in surprise.
If you weren't so pretty, I'd think you were a female Machamp in disguise.
"How is your Frogadier so powerful?" Amy asked curiously.
"It has a lot of natural talent, plus I've trained it well," Chris answered honestly.
Frogadier's strength came not just from its high individual stats but from its innate combat instincts—something no game panel could ever fully show. Combined with experience from countless battles, its abilities had reached a whole new level.
At the same level, few Pokémon, aside from Chris's Combusken and Ralts, could match Frogadier's prowess.
Amy nodded thoughtfully, wanting to ask more questions, but Chris wasn't keen on lingering at the West Lake Arena, where they were now the center of attention. He swiftly returned Frogadier to its Pokéball and nudged Amy off the stage.
"Let's go claim our prize."
After stepping down from the arena, Chris and Amy headed to the official office at the West Lake scenic spot to collect their rewards.
They were given a Pokémon egg, identified as a Finneon egg, and a Mystic Water—an item that boosts the power of Water-type moves by 20%.
Finneon was considered a rare find in the world, though its strength was rather average.
On the market, Pokémon eggs typically went for around 100,000 pokédollars, and Mystic Water was similarly priced.
The distribution of the rewards was left up to the trainers themselves.
"You go ahead and pick first," Amy offered generously.
Chris didn't hesitate and took the Mystic Water, attaching it to Frogadier. After all, Finneon could be caught easily in the wild, but Frogadier didn't yet have any items to enhance its abilities, and the Mystic Water was perfect timing.
"Then I'll take the Finneon egg!" Amy said, holding the hatching device with a satisfied smile.
Back at the lake, Natasha and Tyler were watching Chris with newfound awe.
"Man, I thought you were focusing on becoming a Pokémon Breeder. How are your battle skills so strong?" Tyler asked, bewildered.
"Who says a Pokémon Breeder can't have strong Pokémon?" Chris replied with a smirk.
"Uh..." Tyler was speechless. It was true—Pokémon Breeding students could certainly excel in battles, but Chris was outperforming even those in Pokémon Battle studies. It felt a little... out of place.
