Against the battlefield sky, the portal to the mysterious otherworldly dimension known as "Paint Black" stood wide open. Countless falling rocks poured forth from it, blanketing the entire battleground. Under the relentless Rock Slide, speed was rendered meaningless—no escape seemed possible.
"Leafeon, use Razor Leaf!" Jayden shouted urgently.
Leafeon leapt into the air, twisting and flicking its body with precision. Blades of energy shaped like sharp leaves slashed through the air toward Tyranitar. Simultaneously, the Rock Slide buried Leafeon beneath a cascade of stones.
Jayden had chosen to trade blows, knowing it was his best option.
Leafeon had no feasible defensive move to counter the Rock Slide. Protect? It wouldn't withstand Tyranitar's overwhelming power. Dodging was out of the question. So, exchanging damage became the only viable strategy. At range, Razor Leaf was Leafeon's last hope.
But the attack was futile against Tyranitar.
As the Razor Leaf neared, Tyranitar effortlessly shredded the incoming blades with a swipe of Dragon Claw.
Leafeon's attack power was commendable, but the flying blades lacked the cutting edge needed to penetrate Tyranitar's defenses.
"What!"
With a fierce roar, Leafeon burst out from beneath the rocks, shaking off the debris with an impressive display of strength. Its resilience was undeniable. Despite its soft yellow fur, its physical defense surpassed even Tyranitar's hard armor.
"My Leafeon isn't that easy to defeat!" Jayden shouted, raising his hand to issue another command.
"Leafeon, use Leaf Blade!"
Leafeon dashed forward with surprising speed, its light and nimble limbs kicking up dust as it sprinted across the battlefield. As it ran, its tail glowed with a vivid turquoise light, taking the form of a razor-sharp blade.
"Earthquake," Chris said coldly, crossing his arms and watching indifferently.
"Ban-chirp!" Tyranitar stomped the ground forcefully.
A violent shockwave tore across the battlefield, shattering the rubble and hurling sand and debris into the air.
"Jump up!" Jayden commanded sharply.
Leafeon pushed off the ground, soaring into the air with an agile twist. Its glowing tail lashed out mid-flight, aiming straight for Tyranitar.
"Hyper Beam!" Chris snapped his fingers.
A deafening boom echoed as a blinding white beam erupted from Tyranitar. This time, the beam didn't sweep across the battlefield but instead shot directly upward, striking the roof of the battle dome.
Rumble~~~
The immense destructive force shook the entire structure, threatening to bring it down. Thankfully, the roof's reinforced materials held firm, sparing the battlefield below.
When the Hyper Beam dissipated, Leafeon plummeted from the air, its once-soft fur now scorched and singed. The smell of burnt fur filled the arena as Leafeon hit the ground heavily, unable to continue.
"Leafeon is unable to battle. Tyranitar wins!" the referee declared.
"Darn it!" Jayden growled, clenching his fists as he recalled Leafeon into its Poké Ball. He glared at Tyranitar, frustration evident in his eyes. "How is Tyranitar able to use Hyper Beam so quickly again? That's twice in this battle!"
Taking a deep breath, he grabbed another Poké Ball from his belt and threw it onto the battlefield.
This was his last Pokémon. If it couldn't defeat Tyranitar, the battle was lost.
Although there was no formal punishment, the consequences of the situation transcended any reprimand.
The examiner, a representative of the junior breeder's program, had been utterly humiliated by the other party. If word of this incident spread, his reputation would be irreparably damaged within the Star Moon Taoist Hall. Among his junior brothers, he would be nothing more than a laughingstock.
With stakes this high, Jayden called forth his third Pokémon—his trump card and the pride of the Star Moon Taoist Hall.
Venusaur!
"Venusaur!" Venusaur bellowed, ready for the decisive battle. It could sense that victory was within reach and roared in determination for its trainer.
"Venusaur, use Petal Blizzard!" Jayden commanded with a fierce tone.
Venusaur unleashed a cry, and pink petals burst forth from the iron tree on its back. The petals swirled into a powerful tornado, a vibrant pink storm rushing toward Tyranitar with incredible force.
Chris stood calmly, observing Venusaur.
He knew Venusaur was the signature Pokémon of the Star Moon Taoist Hall, representing its strength and identity. Trainers in the Star Moon Province were highly skilled in breeding and utilizing Venusaur, making it a formidable foe in most battles.
But Chris was unphased. No matter how expertly Venusaur was trained, it couldn't escape its inherent limitations.
"Tyranitar, Earthquake!" Chris commanded sharply.
"Tyranitar!" Tyranitar stomped the ground, sending shockwaves rippling outward.
The shockwaves clashed with Venusaur's Petal Blizzard in the center of the battlefield. The tornado of petals pushed fiercely against the quake's unrelenting power. It was a battle of attrition between the two mighty forces.
Eventually, the Earthquake dissipated, and the Petal Blizzard collapsed in tandem.
Chris's sharp eyes caught a glimmer of light from Venusaur's back. The iron tree on Venusaur's back was glowing, gathering intense energy.
Was it… Solar Beam?
"Solar Beam!" Jayden yelled. He had anticipated that Petal Blizzard would be countered by Earthquake. The move wasn't intended as a direct attack but as a smokescreen to obscure Tyranitar's vision and buy Venusaur precious time to charge its Solar Beam.
Venusaur roared as the energy on its back reached critical mass. The concentrated sunlight erupted into a blinding beam, firing straight toward Tyranitar.
"Hyper Beam!" Chris countered immediately, raising his hand.
Tyranitar opened its maw, unleashing its own brilliant beam of destruction.
The two powerful attacks met in a dazzling collision at the center of the battlefield.
BOOM!
The resulting explosion was catastrophic, sending shockwaves and debris flying. Dust and smoke billowed across the arena, engulfing the combatants and reducing visibility to near zero.
As the battlefield began to settle, Jayden's expression twisted into disbelief.
"Can this Tyranitar seriously still use Hyper Beam?!" he muttered incredulously. "This is its third time in one battle, and it hasn't even needed to rest between uses! That's impossible!"
He glanced at Venusaur. If only it had been a Sunny Day, Venusaur's Solar Beam could have charged and fired before Tyranitar had the chance to retaliate.
Frustration gnawed at him, and he cursed under his breath. "How is Tyranitar so strong at controlling the weather?!"
Just as his thoughts began to spiral, a dark green Dragon Claw ripped through the lingering smoke.
The sharp claws struck Venusaur with brutal force, landing a decisive blow to its face.
