Trainer Chris challenges the Fortree Gym Leader, Winona.
Each side has three Pokémon available.
There are no substitutions during the battle.
When one Trainer has no available Pokémon left, the match is over.
The referee announced the rules firmly, signaling the start of the match.
"The Gym Leader sends out her Pokémon first!"
Winona gracefully removed a Poké Ball from her waist and threw it high into the air.
The ball opened mid-flight, releasing a Swellow.
This Swellow's plumage shimmered with a subtle golden hue, giving it a radiant glow. It was undoubtedly a Shiny Swellow, its brilliance catching Chris's eye and stirring memories of a similar Swellow he'd seen in the anime.
Chris smirked and spun a Poké Ball with a backhanded throw.
With a deafening BOOM, the ground trembled as Tyranitar landed on the battlefield, its massive form leaving deep cracks on the earth.
"Tyraaanitar!" the Pokémon roared, summoning a raging sandstorm that enveloped the entire arena. Sand Stream had activated, turning the field into a swirling haze of grit and debris.
Winona faltered for just a moment, visibly awed by Tyranitar's sheer presence.
The referee, regaining focus, raised his flag. "Both Pokémon are ready! Begin!"
"Swellow, use Aerial Ace!" Winona commanded sharply, banking on Swellow's speed to give her an edge. Against such a massive opponent, she knew agility was key.
"Rock Slide!" Chris countered immediately, his confidence unwavering. Flash or not, he thought, a Flying-type Pokémon had no chance against Tyranitar's rock attacks.
"Swellow!" The golden bird flapped its wings with a sharp cry and took off, moving at blinding speed. It was like a streak of gold darting through the sandstorm, closing in on Tyranitar in an instant.
Tyranitar remained unflinching, spreading its arms wide and unleashing a deafening roar.
"Tyraaaaanitar!"
High above the battlefield, a swirling void appeared, dark and ominous. From the portal came a rain of jagged rocks, small but razor-sharp and in overwhelming numbers. Unlike the massive boulders of Rock Tomb, these smaller rocks came down like a relentless barrage, covering the battlefield entirely.
Swellow's Aerial Ace struck Tyranitar head-on but barely made a dent. As a Flying-type move, it was halved in effectiveness, and Tyranitar's immense defense made the attack seem like little more than an annoyance.
"Unbelievable power..." Winona murmured, her voice tinged with admiration. She quickly shifted strategies, knowing Swellow wouldn't last long under such conditions.
"Swellow, use Hyper Beam!" she called out, her resolve firm.
"Swellow!" With a determined cry, the bird halted mid-air, stockpiling its energy. Its golden feathers gleamed as it unleashed a devastating white beam, piercing through the storm of rocks and heading straight for Tyranitar.
"Rock Tomb," Chris commanded coolly.
From the portal above, three massive boulders descended in front of Tyranitar, absorbing the impact of the Hyper Beam.
"Using Rock Tomb for defense… a strategy I borrowed from Roxanne," Chris said with a smirk. "But now, it's all mine!"
Swellow, having expended its energy, was left motionless. The relentless Rock Slide rained down, burying it under a cascade of jagged stones. The double impact from the attack left Swellow unable to continue.
"Swellow is unable to battle! Tyranitar wins!"
Winona frowned as she assessed the situation. Slowly, she ran her fingers across the Poké Balls on her belt before selecting one. With precision, she tossed it high into the air.
The ball opened, releasing her next combatant—a Pelipper. Its level was a formidable 55, and its presence brought a new determination to the battlefield.
Pelipper, the evolved form of Wingull, is both a Flying and Water-type Pokémon. While its Flying-type makes it vulnerable to Tyranitar's Rock-type moves, its Water-type attacks pose a significant threat to Tyranitar.
It was clear that Winona planned to face Chris head-on, a strategy that seemed risky at best.
As Pelipper emerged from its Poké Ball, a dark cloud began to gather overhead—a sign of its Drizzle ability. The ability immediately attempts to summon rain upon its arrival.
However, only one weather condition can dominate the battlefield at a time. The raging sandstorm, courtesy of Tyranitar's Sand Stream, was already in full effect.
Chris chuckled at the sight. "Trying to challenge Tyranitar's sandstorm? Bold, but futile."
The dark clouds brought by Pelipper's Drizzle were swiftly torn apart by the swirling sands. The sandstorm remained unyielding, erasing any trace of the rain.
Winning the weather war wasn't just about priority—it was about raw power, and Pelipper simply wasn't strong enough to compete with Tyranitar's dominance.
Moreover, Chris had equipped Tyranitar with a Hard Stone, boosting the power of its Rock-type moves. While it wasn't a Smooth Rock to extend the sandstorm's duration, there was no need—Tyranitar was fully prepared for this matchup.
Seeing the failed weather attempt, Winona wasted no time issuing her next command.
"Pelipper, use Hydro Pump!" she shouted.
"Rock Slide!" Chris countered without hesitation, opting for a direct offensive approach.
Pelipper opened its massive beak and unleashed a torrent of water, aiming straight for Tyranitar. At the same time, Tyranitar roared and called down another Rock Slide.
The battlefield erupted into chaos as both Pokémon's attacks connected. Pelipper attempted to dodge, but the sheer number of rocks raining down made escape impossible. The super-effective Rock-type attack overwhelmed Pelipper, burying it in rubble.
"Pelipper is incapacitated! Tyranitar wins!" the referee declared as the dust settled.
Tyranitar stood unfazed, its enormous bulk and heightened Special Defense from the sandstorm enabling it to withstand Pelipper's Hydro Pump with minimal effort. The damage, though doubled due to Water's advantage over Rock, was mitigated by the sandstorm's 1.5x boost to Tyranitar's Special Defense. Combined with the Hard Stone's boost to its Rock-type moves, the exchange left Tyranitar almost entirely unscathed.
Winona, visibly tense, recalled Pelipper. Losing two Pokémon in a row put her in a dire position—she only had one Pokémon left to turn the tide.
Her fingers hovered over her last Poké Ball before making her choice. "If there's one Pokémon that can bring this back... it's you!"
She threw the Poké Ball high into the air, and it opened to reveal what looked like a fluffy cloud descending onto the battlefield.
The "cloud" soon revealed a graceful blue head emerging from the cottony mass.
"Altaria!" the Pokémon chirped, its majestic presence captivating the audience. This was Winona's trump card, her Altaria, a Level 58 powerhouse known for its elegance and strength. Often nicknamed the Dragon Traitor due to its unconventional mega evolution from Dragon/Flying to Dragon/Fairy typing, Altaria was her ultimate hope for a comeback.
