It was late afternoon now, and the chaos of the day was beginning to settle into something manageable.
Everyone's concern had been so overwhelming it was almost cute but the way my sisters and my mother smothered me might have been a little much.
Every hug, every kiss on my cheek, every stern lecture about not wandering off into the wilderness felt like an overreaction, though I knew it came from a place of love.
I learned they had all skipped work to come here. For my sisters, that wasn't surprising they weren't particularly fond of their jobs anyway but their presence made it clear how much they had been worried.
Even more surprising was my mother. She had canceled meetings, rescheduled appointments, and essentially dropped her entire life to make sure I was okay.
Unfortunately for them, they wouldn't be staying much longer. Their jobs in New York demanded their return, and as much as my mother hated it, she had to leave too.
