Maeve raised an eyebrow, giving me that knowing smile of hers, one that was somehow both comforting and teasing. "I think we both know where that came from." She placed a reassuring hand on my shoulder, squeezing gently. "You handled it beautifully."
I couldn't help but laugh, letting out some of the tension I'd been holding. "Well, I guess I had a little extra motivation today." My gaze drifted across the set to where Zaya was already making her way out, her back to us, the lines of her shoulders rigid and unyielding as ever.
I felt a pang, that familiar frustration settling in my chest. It was clear she hadn't even thought to look back.
Maeve's hand moved from my shoulder to give my hand a gentle squeeze, pulling my focus back to her. "Come on," she said warmly. "Let's go get changed. You deserve a break after all that."
As we walked back to the changing rooms, Maeve's eyes lit up. "What do you think about sushi tonight?"
