Halloween. The one day where the world collectively agrees to be weird.
Zaya wasn't exactly a "dress up and have fun" kind of person, but somehow, I'd convinced her to celebrate with me. Maybe it was my relentless charm.
Or maybe it was the promise of candy. Either way, we were here now, standing in her villa's massive living room, surrounded by bags of decorations I had forced Zaya to buy.
"Explain to me again why we need all of this?" Zaya asked, eyeing a giant inflatable skeleton with mild disgust.
"Because it's Halloween!" I said, already pulling out a string of pumpkin lights. "You can't just sit in the dark and pretend it's a regular day."
"That's exactly what I planned to do," she muttered, crossing her arms.
I rolled my eyes. "You're no fun."
"I'm plenty of fun," Zaya shot back. "I just don't see the point in dressing up when I could be eating in peace."
