Chapter 10 - Tragedy

I got up in the middle of the night, started by the loud sound of the door opening, along with my siblings.

"Everyone, we have to go, now." Said the matron who had opened the door.

"What's happening?" Asked one of my siblings, still sleepy.

"NOW!" She shouted, guess it really was serious. This woke everyone right up and we started following her, and i noticed the smell, the screams, the agony of the people.

The air was thick with smoke, buildings crumbled, and the screams of the villagers echoed through the streets, a haunting symphony of despair.

Once we were outside, i finally saw it. A giant orange fox far away in the distance, swinging all of its limbs, causing these buildings to collapse, shockwaves that knocked people away and murdered them, it roared as it tore through the village.

Fuck, why now?! Obito, you fucking bastard!

---MOMENTS AGO---

A masked man in black robes could be seen holding a Ram hand sign with his right hand, extracting dark orange and malevolent chakra from a woman with fiery red hair and pupilless eyes. A sealing matrix was drawn on her stomach.

"Come forth, NINE TAILS!" he shouted as he pulled the last remnants of chakra from the woman's stomach.

Soon, the orange chakra took the form of a fox's head, rising into the sky before merging with the remaining energy to form the full figure of a massive orange fox, its elongated body sleek and powerful, crowned with nine formidable tails.

It landed on the ground with a thunderous crash, creating a grand shockwave that kicked up a massive cloud of dust, and then...

"ROOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAARRRRRRR!!!" The powerful beast roared with all its might, liberated from its prison.

This was the Kyuubi—the mightiest of all Tailed Beasts!

It charged forward, breaking through the walls of Konoha with ease, and let out another bone-chilling roar.

"Go, Nine Tails," the masked man said calmly. In that moment, the beast's eyes glowed red, and it went berserk, swinging its arms and tails wildly, destroying everything in its path—building by building—sending people and their limbs flying.

"ROOOOOOOARRRRRR!!! ROOOAAAAAAAAARRRRRRR!!!"

"THIS IS AN ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE LEAF POLICE! ALL CIVILIANS ARE TO EVACUATE TO THE SOUTHEAST SHELTER! I REPEAT! THIS IS AN ANNOUNCEMENT..." One of the officers from the Leaf Police Force shouted desperately, trying to save as many people as possible while restraining the beast for as long as they could, until the Fourth Hokage arrived.

"Dad, Mom! I'm scared!"

"SOMEONE HELP US!"

"Shhhh, it'll be alright... The strong ninjas will save us from the big bad fox, okay?"

Another shinobi shunshined to where the most civilians were, and started leading the way.

"This way, HURRY!" He shouted, pointing to the southeast. Every civilian went that way.

The Konoha ninjas kept pushing the beast back, until they lead it out to the outskirts of the village.

...

-------PRESENT-----

I huffed and puffed, trying to keep up with the matron and all my siblings, the smoke was making it hard to breathe. There was so much rubble, so much blood...

Wait. This smell. Hana's perfume. She always keeps that bottle with her. No, no, no, no! It's coming from that direction. I don't want to lose her!

I separated from my group, unsure if I would be all right, but I didn't care. Fortunately or unfortunately, they didn't notice my absence.

I ran toward the smell, which grew stronger with each passing moment, until it turned metallic and made my stomach churn.

I found her, her bottom half was completely crushed, buried under the rubble, her face devoid of any expressions and her eyes hollow. Blood pooling around her corpse, and dripping from her mouth.

I fell down, kneeling and tears starting to form on my eyes.

Why...?

"Hana...? Hana, please say something! HANA!!" I shouted, cradling her head and pressing it against my own. Tears flowed down my face in a steady stream, my expression one of utter anguish. I was devastated; she had been like a mother to me during my years in the orphanage. How could she die like this...?

If I hadn't been such a forgetful little shit, if I had told everyone, if I had been smarter, this wouldn't have happened...!

FUCK!! The flow of tears intensified, and I punched the ground with all my might, using my tiny fist, uncaring for the pain and the blood seeping out of the fresh cuts on it.

Hana... HANA...!

'Obito Uchiha, you sick piece of shit!' I thought, consumed by rage and overwhelming sadness, as i held to her now cold hand.

I finally realized that I wasn't in a world of pink and rainbows; the people around me were just as real as I was. This was a cruel world of shinobi, hired murderers, and vile fucking beasts. I knew that I wasn't the main character and that not everything would go my way.

I swear to the gods above, from now on, I'll train as much as i can, and get strong enough to protect those that i care about.

I stood up, trying to wipe my tears that just kept flowing and flowing, almost like an endless stream. And i looked to the north, where the fox was currently being fought.

I need to get at least as strong as the Kage, or even stronger.

I don't care anymore.
