Chapter 28 - Postscript, Suzhou, China, 2013

In early 2013, Beijing's air pollution became more and more serious. The haze index has become one of the weather indicators that people pay close attention to.

Every day when I woke up, I often saw that the haze index on my mobile phone was over 300 to 400.

I was 35 years old at the time, and I felt that I needed a home. After repeated consideration, I chose to leave Beijing and return to Suzhou, Jiangsu in early March.

I rented a two-bedroom apartment in an upscale community in Suzhou's famous industrial park district.

Later, I felt a little lonely, so I went to the Shanghai Pet Market to buy a dog, Duoduo, my first dog.

The reason why I cried after getting drunk at the Mono Bar in Milan in September this year was because I saw the guests at the next table brought a dog, and suddenly I thought of Duoduo. The rent expired the following year, and because I had to move from Suzhou to Guangzhou, I had to give Duoduo to a Taiwanese couple living in Suzhou. This is one of the most regrettable and regretful decisions in my life. That wound will never heal.

I often walk my dog in the community and get to know other dog owners.

One was a single male neighbor in his 50s. He was a closeted person. Although he had never admitted that he was gay, his behavior told me that he was definitely gay. One day he sent me a message on WeChat saying that he was traveling in Spain and had sex with a Spanish man last night after getting drunk. It felt great.

Another dog owner was a neighbor in her 40s from the north. Her white Samoyed was very big and cute. She often invited me to her house for tea. One day when her husband came back, I happened to be chatting with her at their house. I clearly felt her husband's suspicious eyes. I thought to myself, you never have to worry about what will happen between me and your wife.

Later, I met L from a nearby community on social media. After getting familiar with him, L quickly showed his Drama Queen side. His exaggerated expressions and humorous words often made me laugh.

L lived with his boyfriend.

At that time, L's boyfriend's father came to visit him, and L needed to stay at my apartment for 2 weeks.

One night I had a date with a guy at home. L was also at home. When I went to the kitchen to prepare drinks, the two of them also chatted for a while.

A few days later, the guy I dated the other night sent me a message saying, "Your roommate L has been sending me messages to pursue me, and I said I have no interest in him. He said to me sarcastically: Oh, turned out it is my sister you like, but do you know that he is the sauna queen?"
