Alpha Trent's POV.
Mortal enemy?
The last time I remembered, once in a blue moon Father always talked about Alpha Zeigler and regarded him as one of the most powerful Alphas and even used him as a study case for me at times.
How did he become his mortal enemy all of a sudden.
I narrowed my gaze and furrowed my eyebrows.
"Father, what did you mean by mortal enemy?" I questioned with a bemused and tired look on my face.
"Alpha Zeigler was always proud and arrogant because of his numerous powers but at the end of the day, he still perished" Father replied and I gasped.
What was wrong with this man before my eyes?. He wasn't acting like the father I used to know and love.
"How could he have become your mortal enemy overnight when you used him as a reference point for superiority and good leadership?Alpha Zeigler used to be your friend, isn't that what you told me?" I inquired in confusion.
I thought bringing Alpha Zeigler into the situation would help things but I was wrong, it only complicated things for poor Eva.
" 'Was', that certifies it as a past tense because our friendship ended a long time ago" Father frowned and slammed his hand on the table to correct my words.
"But how does that affect Eva?"
"Zeigler offended me greatly but he didn't care to apologize because he felt like he was unbeatable and unstoppable but look at him in the grave now" Father replied with a hint of disdain in his tone.
This was going to be a tough one.
"How did he offend you?"
"It's a long and disheartening story but are you ready to hear it because you might not like that Eva girl so much when you do?" He responded with an expression of hurt on his face.
He had the liberty to tell any tale he pleased but nothing would change my mind about Eva. I was too involved to change my mind because of the simple story.
"A long time ago…" He began and paused.
My face almost fell to the table because I was never a fan of stories and my mind was already bored even before listening to him.
" Zeigler and I were friends from childhood, we were among the pups who had the strongest bonds because our fathers were also acquainted. There was no borders between our packs because we would run past each other's borders at free will but when we reached the age of sixteen we met a girl and I told him I liked her and—"
" Hold on, are you telling me that he became your mortal enemy because of a girl "I gasped in shock.
I knew that this story was not going to end well.
" I hate getting interrupted "He warned and I propped my hands on my chin to continue listening to his uninteresting tale.
He had the right to like girls but I was never opportuned to even when I met someone before. Our relationship ended almost immediately.
"We liked her and she later ended up being his mate but then he hadn't reached the age to discover it. I told him and he supported me but because I was shy , he talked to her on my behalf and before a blink of an eye they were together" Father narrated.
"I pushed my feelings aside and endured them showcasing their love in front of me but then I met your mother and we began dating and yet again Zeigler set his eyes on her and we even had a duel where he almost killed me and claimed her''.
The story wasn't in the favor of Zeigler and I could feel the pain of my father.
" But your mother ended up as my mate therefore I claimed her and his ex girlfriend ended up being his mate, we maintained a friendly relation but I would never forget what he did to me" Father ended the story and I sighed.
"I'm sorry about that," I muttered.
"But this has nothing to do with Eva, she is not like Zeigler. She's a good and strong person that has fought hard to stay alive" I defended Eva.
"I knew Zeigler all my life but I never knew his true nature until that day. He might have been an angel to all and even sometimes a reference point because of his success but I would never forget it. I only talked about him because we reconciled but he still remained an enemy in the past "
" But wasn't a mortal enemy a grave word, he's dead already " I rolled my eyes.
" Yes he is and I don't want another Zeigler again in my life! "Father yelled.
"Eva is not the same as her father, she hardly knew him"
"This is my final decision" Father said.
"Well not mine… "
We heard one of the loveliest feminine voices ever and we turned to see My mother.
"Mother" I smiled and went to hug.
"Hello, son" She giggled and patted my head like she always did from childhood.
"How was your trip?"
"It was amazing"
"Good day, my dear Alpha" Mother chuckled and went to peck father who was excited to see her.
They always displayed their love in front of me and I wished that my love would always remain this way, strong and never ending.
"I heard the tale of your father, don't mind him dear. He has always loved twisting the story, he was the one that proposed the duel to death even when I explained to him that Zeigler and I were just friends" Mother explained and laughed.
My eyes turned to my father and he looked away for a minute.
"Whatever just be careful of that girl, it runs in their genes and I wouldn't want to lose my son to any opportunistic enemy" Father bellowed.
Such exaggeration.
"Don't listen to your father," Mother said cheerfully.
"I wasn't going to, Mother " I chuckled.
"I would love to meet her, she must be beautiful like her mother"

"The food was good," Eva said as she relaxed on the bed.
I had mindlinked the Head chef to cook a meal for her and for the maid to help her freshen up.
"I'm glad you liked it"
I walked to the side and cupped her cheek, her beautiful lips curved into a smile.
I recalled my father's words and I was a bit troubled by them.
Eva was distant before but all of sudden she started responding to my feelings.
Did she feel the same way or
