Chapter 15 - Regaining Consciousness

While Kenneth was unconscious, the prince continued to be in a state where he was trapped in his past. Kenneth saw how his happy life began to decline. Until finally, there was nothing he could be proud of.

In the beginning, Kenneth's youth was the happiest time for the prince.

Until he was five years old, Kenneth was the prince who received the most attention from King Ducan. People said it was because Kenneth looked so much like him, and of all the king's children, Kenneth was the one who best met his expectations. Kenneth was smart for a boy his age. The prince could tell what he could say and what he could not say in front of others.

Kenneth remembered that his mother always smiled and pampered him at those times. Kenneth liked it best when his mother warmly hugged him. In this world, only his mother could make Kenneth give anything for her happiness.

When Kenneth was six years old, they were finally abandoned by King Ducan. It all happened because Empress Helena had given birth to a child who also resembled King Ducan, and more importantly, he was born the grandson of an honorable duke. Their court quickly went into decline after that. His mother turned into a temperamental woman who did not hesitate to harm her child. Her delusions almost put the woman's life in danger. But thanks to Kenneth, they managed to escape death several times.

For the sake of his mother, Kenneth was willing to sacrifice everything he had for her happiness. Kenneth left his pride and emotions, all just so that they could still live in the royal palace. Kenneth never stopped fighting for their survival. Although Kenneth was tired, the prince never showed weakness to anyone for several years.

It went on and on until Kenneth finally met his new sword master. The so-called genius of the Lucano Kingdom managed to make Kenneth realize that he could also cry and get angry when he felt tired. The man taught Kenneth that his strengths were the strongest weapons Kenneth could have to survive in the royal palace. Even when the teacher suddenly disappeared at one point, Kenneth always remembered his teachings and lived with more dignity after that.

Kenneth waited for the right time to expose all his enemy's weaknesses until his father suddenly sent them all on a mission that was almost tantamount to suicide. Kenneth's plan eventually fell apart. He who previously only wanted to have a chance to live a peaceful life with his mother, now had the same chance to become a king. Kenneth again went on to be the final winner. But sadly, he was defeated before he could reach Celeste Village.

Pathetic. Kenneth could only utter that sentence before his consciousness was completely lost. Kenneth could hardly believe that his entire plan failed because he got too carried away with the people who went with him. The prince felt he had betrayed all the trust people had put in him and died miserably.

It should have been that way. But Kenneth woke up on a soft bed that he hadn't felt in a long time. All his wounds had also been bandaged by someone. His life had been saved by someone when he was unconscious.

"You're awake."

Kenneth's attention was immediately drawn in one direction as soon as someone entered the room and greeted him quietly. This time, Matias no longer had a fearful expression as he approached Kenneth. The man put away the roll of bandages he was carrying calmly, then looked at Kenneth to see the progress of the wound.

"Your Majesty, please forgive us for not being able to summon a healer to heal your wounds. But we have called a doctor to examine your condition. The doctor said that the broken bones and the effects of the poison in your body will probably heal within a few weeks. I'm sorry. But it's time for me to change your bandage."

Kenneth let Matias take off the bandages attached to his body while looking at Matias, who looked calm. "It's alright. Even in the capital city, finding a healer is not easy," he replied.

That healing ability was not one that everyone could possess, even if they were master magicians. Take Kenneth as an example. Although he could be called one of the talented wizards who could use advanced magic, he still could not use healing magic to heal his task. Healing magic could usually only be possessed by those who had a natural talent as a healer. Even if someone has never been taught magic, if they did have the talent of a healer, they can heal someone without the need to learn magic first.

Such a person is usually referred to as a child beloved by God. Each of them was usually protected by their respective kingdoms, and only served the royal family or appeared in urgent situations only.

"Lord Matias, may I know how long I've been unconscious?" Kenneth asked. The prince had to know the exact time he had missed. Kenneth had promised to write to Uri once every week. If he were to miss the letter, there was a high probability that Uri would consider him in danger and leave to catch up with him alone.

Kenneth couldn't let that happen. Not when someone might be after his mother's life inside the palace, and only Uri could protect her in that place.
