The pitter patter of rain hitting the pavement reaches my ear as I wait for the traffic light to turn red and let me cross the street. I idly pull out my phone and check to see if any new chapters have been released for my favorite light novel "Adventurers World", sadly the author dropped the book years ago. I still check anyway, every time I open the app a tiny bit of hope fills my chest. That hope is quickly snuffed out after I see 'Latest update 2 years ago(dropped)'.
All of a sudden my lamentations where interrupted as I hear a scream, looking up I see that a child was getting up off the middle of the road after presumably slipping. Turning my head I see the reason for the screaming, a truck was barreling toward the kid at well above the speed limit.
My legs acted before my brain could and I found myself right next to the kid, in a panic I push the kid away from the trucks path, forgetting about my own safety for but a moment, that moment was fatal. As the headlights of the truck loom steadily closer the world seems to slow down.
'Who would have thought it would end like this' I think with amusement, 'I'd at least want to live a little longer to see if the novel would end, but I guess it's my story that is ending, the end of Zack Hawthorne' my eyes turn toward the kid. I breath a mental sigh of relief as I can now say for certain that the child is ok. Realizing that I had accomplished what I needed to my body relaxes and I close my eyes, waiting for death to claim me. That's when something blocks the headlights blinding me.
{Real MCs POV}
Waiting for the traffic lights to let me cross the street I reflect on my day, 'What a day, got fired, evicted, and NTRed all on the same day, now how am I gonna get an income' my name is Finn, I am recently unemployed heartbroken, and homeless. I sigh then pull out my phone and pull up a nostalgic app, I had stopped reading light novels to put more of a focus on my career. 'Maybe I could give writing a try, it can't be that hard right, maybe I could write an ending for that novel I liked that got dropped by the author'.
A scream rang near me wrenching me from my thoughts. Surprised I look up and see the scene playing before my eyes, a child in the middle of the road, truck looming, then from nowhere a man runs up and pushes the kid out of the way. Instead of being awed by this display of sacrifice my mind instead focuses on the truck, a tiny little voice whispers maliciously in my head 'there is always another option to all your problems'
Before I knew it I was running, I was only a few feet away from the whole scenario in the first place so I quickly got in front of the man. As my eyes fell upon the blinding headlights of the truck a smile falls across my face 'maybe I'll get reancarnated like all the main characters from the novels I've read'.
{3rd person POV}
Everything begins to move at a normal pace now, the kid falls to the ground, a little scuffed up but safe nonetheless. The two men are sent flying from the force of the truck, their bodies bouncing a few times off the pavement before skidding to a halt. Minutes go by and multiple ambulances pull up to the accident, the men are carried on stretchers and brought to a hospital before they are declared dead, neither one having a loved one or family member, the men died alone together.
{Heaven?}
Two men wake up and find themselves staring at a perfectly white ceiling. Finn gets up and looks around the room he is in curiously and whispers to himself "huh, there is an afterlife after all", Zack on the other hand is still in shock after sacrificing himself, after a while though he gets enough control of himself to sit up and look around.
The two men's eyes meet in their exploration of the white room they have found themselves in. Before either one could speak though an opening appears in the middle of the rooms floor. From it a being that exuded light from every direction appeared, Zack wondered to himself how come they weren't blinded. Despite this thought both men were in awe of the divine being before them.
The being spoke in a unrecognizable voice, almost reminiscent of a computers text to speech. "Zack Hawthorn, you have been chosen as Earths candidate for the Universe Games, you will fight for Earths place in the Universe. This is a path fraught with danger but I have trust in your ability to persevere."
This declaration leaves Zack shocked as he stares at the being in front of him. Then from the corner of the room Finn speaks up "What about me, am I also a candidate!" He asks with an excited grin. Now was the beings turn to be shocked "huh" it let out, its voice going from flat and robotic to feminine and higher pitched, the light being emitted from the being flickers off like a lightbulb, revealing Earth personified. "Woah" Finn lets out in astonishment at the beauty before him.
Her hair was intertwined with flora and vines which merged with her hair with some parts being vines and others normal hair. Freckles dotted her face and her eyes switched colors every second with each color corresponding to a season.
So there they all stood, shocked for separate reasons, Zack for the revelation he was given, The Being because she didn't expect to see another human in her realm as she had thought she only brought one person, and finally Finn at the beauty of The Being.
The silence is broken by The Beings nervous voice "You're not supposed to be here, I only brought Zack to my realm", deciding to think about what he had just been told later Zack asks The Being "And how did you bring me here in the first place" to which the goddess responded "Of course I used my trust steed Truck-kun" she says, proud of herself for some reason.
