Chapter 36 - Assigned Rank

"Yo, look, the orb is reacting!"

Everyone looked towards the corner where the young beastfolk was placing her hand on the orb.

The podium was positioned in a way that everyone could see it.

As the changes of the orb became more evident and it didn't feel like it was hungry for mana, Anatalia removed her hand from it.

The crystal clear orb first turned red in color, then transitioned to a very light shade of orange.

"Do you see that?"

"She's already at that stage at such an age!"

"It took me ages to reach that stage."

The murmurs of the spectators sounded as the orb made its final changes.

After taking on the light orange color, a thick pure white essence appeared like a ball within the orb, swirling around the orange color and standing out.

At this point, the spectators' mutter became louder.

"As expected."

"She's a skill wielder! That's crazy."

"What? Why are you all so shocked, it was expected."

"That's probably what she used to tame that beast."

"Most likely."

"But an ability that lets you tame a beast that should be A rank is unheard of, only Gift wielders should have that!"

Skills are assumed to be a lesser form of Rune Gift in this world. It wasn't something everyone had.

Finn tilted his head as he looked at the orb and heard their voices. 'Eh, it's just one skill, why are they so hyped about it? Are skills rare or something? Ah, yes, I noticed the majority of monsters lacked skills during my journey… I really don't know much yet…'

While everyone talked about skills and topics related to it, Anatalia was about to be judged based on her test.

If her battle test wasn't impressive, she knew the core quality test was going to favor her.

There are three colors everyone is familiar with in this core quality test. Red, orange and yellow; Red being the lowest quality and yellow being the highest. They each come in different shades of their respective colors too.

Only a very few people have reached the yellow stage amongst the guild members. Solid Orange was the most common stage.

Anatalia was not only at a light orange stage at such a young age, she had the skill essence within her too.

Anatalia glanced at Nagic waiting for him to assign her rank.

Nagic began to think of a proper rank to assign her based on what he had seen and information he had read.

He firstly paid attention to her experience.

Anatalia claimed to have explored dangerous regions and encountered beasts as she grew up. Nagic believed this was true based on her fighting style and strategies that were more suited for beasts compared to people.

Adventurers were mostly involved in hunting beasts and exploring various places.

Next was her current abilities and the potential she had. It was outstanding honestly, but she was still young. Her decision making was poor and although she had a calm face, Nagic knew she was unstable in her head.

"Alright," Nagic said to Anatalia, also calling the adventurers attention. "The rank you'll be starting at is the C rank. Rank can be increased based on your achievements and judgment from the guild. That's the end of this test."

From lowest, the adventurer ranks were, F, E, D, C, B, A, S. Most adventurers were at C after years of work. From B upwards, you were highly valued.

Anatalia was satisfied with this. She glanced at the employees behind Nagic, waiting for them to give her a guild card.

Before she received this, some adventurers openly expressed themselves to Nagic.

"Hey, lover boy. Why are you giving out such a rank to her?"

"Is this favoritism? Just you know, a wrong rank can lead to wrong missions, and wrong missions may lead to death."

Seeing them bicker about this, Nagic smiled and clasped his hand to silence them.

"If you have a problem with this, just challenge her, beat her, then I'll reduce her rank," He said.

The adventurers were about to ask Nagic if he was playing with them, but then they felt a cold shiver run down through their spines.

For some reason, they felt like they were at death's door…

Then they all recalled something. Seating on the seats alone was a beautiful mana beast that stared at them without concealing its bloodlust.

Finn was annoyed because of the adventurers, they were hating too much it was beginning to feel like they treated Anatalia as a joke.

He didn't know when he had created very thin webs around where the adventurers sat.

Before Finn could do anything, Anatalia came to him, obstructing his view of the adventurers.

"Finn, what'd you think of my performance now?" She asked.

Finn's annoyance receded as he looked at her. Because everyone's attention was fixed on them, he could only nod to gesture he was satisfied.

"I said it didn't I… This is the only special thing about me," She said, chuckling. "I've gotten my card, let's go now."

The adventurers didn't say any further after what Nagic said, so she was given an identification card with her rank.

She was also given a tag that Finn would put on his body to identify him as a registered beast companion.

After confirming they were done with what they had to do at the guild for the day, they left the building.

Seeing them leave the building, Nagic waved to them and said, "I'll see you again soon!"

Both Finn and Anatalia didn't reply, they were against the idea of involving himself with him.

On their way to the inn, they went around the city randomly dinding things that interest them like street performers, items sold on the road side, and most of all food.

They were yet to sell the beast parts so they didn't spend much because they didn't want to suddenly run low on cash.

When it was sunfall, they decided to end the day there and go back to the inn.

The street to the inn was less busy as it was far from the guild. After being quiet for the whole day, Finn said, "I didn't know you had a skill."

Anatalia sighed. "Actually, I don't have a skill, skills are only created through the help of Vyrid. The best way to say it is that I actually have the essence that's similar to a skill."

Confused, Finn asked, "What do you mean?"

Anatalia thought for a direct answer, then explained,

"Skills are straightforward, it helps anyone to immediately learn their ability, this is caused by Vyrid. But without an essence being turned to a skill, it's just an ability that I know that I have, but I have to uncover what it can truly do, and I'm currently yet to do that."

Understanding the bits of this, Finn shook his head. "After today, I've come to realize I really don't know much. Magic circle, gifts, skills and more…"

"Hmm…" Anatalia said, "I also don't know much to be honest, most of what I know is the surface of things. Let's go to the guild's library tomorrow!"

Agreeing with her suggestion, Finn replied, "That's a good idea, let's do that!"
