Chapter 7 - The Hideous Goat

Finn found somewhere in the Mushroom maze to sleep a few hours and ventured out after for food.

He found some weird glowing fruits that held a lot of mana growing out directly from the ground. The problem was that they weren't all in the same area.

Finn felt it was worth it, they sped up his Mana recovery process so he spent his early morning seeking for this Fruits.

To quench his thirst, Finn found a water hole. Contrary to his expectations, it lacked creatures around it. While he was drinking, he realized why; The most dangerous creatures one would find in this forest resided in the waters.

He didn't think twice and left immediately.

Hours later, after the sun had peaked in the sky - not that it mattered in this light stripped place - Finn had fully recovered his energy, while Fenrir's core was almost fully recovered.

He could now go further west where there were more strong creatures and higher atmospheric Mana density.

Knowing the value of how much Mana one has and how it's used, Finn wanted to make his Mana usage more efficient. If possible he wanted to find a way to increase his Mana Capacity Limit.

For this, Finn had tried to come up with various theories regarding the nature of this Luminescent Forest, the strength of the monsters and possible locations where he could improve his mana core.

Firstly, he came to realize the more he went west of this forest, the more luminescent things he saw. From insects, to some little creatures, to the grasses and to the mosses going from the trees - They were all glowing blue or purple.

They all seemed to be affected by how the mana density kept increasing.

Secondly, the monsters. He tried to understand why they had territory rulers, and aside from the natural way of these creatures, Finn assumed it was so they themselves could grow and possibly evolve.

They instinctively aimed for regions with better Mana Density than other places that they could rule with their strength claiming that region and hoard the Mana.

The Walker Crabs for example ruled the mushroom maze and lived in an area that was even better than others. Going further, Finn believed he should avoid territory rulers. He didn't want to underestimate them.

Lastly, as for why the Mana density was like this. It was obvious to Finn that not all places had this much atmosphere Mana. The place he had first 'woken up' had a Mana Density that paled in comparison to where he was now.

Believing that something had to be releasing this amount of Mana, he set out to find that something.

Finn knew it was dangerous, but his hope was that the Monsters instinctively avoided this presumed source.

Maybe his intelligence might give him an advantage again. This alone made him a predator here.

'Well, who knows? There might be some intelligent creatures here, too.'

Finn still needed that battle experience, which was why he was currently looking for a monster to prey on. The knowledge he gained needed to be tested.

Around 4pm in Finn's approximated time, he had found a nice, not good looking, target.

It was a humanoid goat.

It was standing on its hoofs, and had clawed hands. Its lower body was brown while its upper body was white. Adorning its head, was a huge goat horn with battle signs that showed the Goat used it for ramming.

Its tongue stuck out of its mouth as it acted with a brain fitting an evolved version of its original species.

It was currently chewing on some luminescent grass.

Finn named it, 'A Hideous Goat.'

To cover himself, Finn brought his stomach to the ground, hiding in the midst of the grass. His white, blue streaked tail stood like a wolf ready for a hunt.

Using Mana to increase his agility and strength, Finn dashed at the monster.

Upon reaching a close proximity, Finn jumped up, aiming directly at the Hideous Goat's head. Unfortunately, things were harder for him than expected.

Mid-air, he accidentally launched 10 arcs of Claw Slash at the Goat, causing it to retreat back a bit after it sensed danger.

As Finn landed on the Goat's previous spot, he cursed, 'Damn. It's way harder than I thought!'

One of the ideas Finn got was for him to not release the accumulating Claw Slash, instead he'll use the Mana that gathered around his claw and coated it as a form of gauntlet.

But skills that were supposed to make certain actions easier than it's actually meant to be, has its rules. If Finn evokes Claw Slash, it must carry out the corresponding actions.

Skills like "Claw Slash" were precise and it can't be manipulated easily, unlike skills like 'Mana Sense" that were more broader.

When Finn jumped, he carried out actions similar to a slash attack and the Mana gathered at his claw forcefully released because he couldn't stop it.

'I have to achieve control over this!'

The Hideous Goat had already identified its attacker. With one of its hooves, it pawed the floor, ready to charge.

It used its inherent skill and charged at Finn, covering the distance in the blink of an eye and rammed Finn with its horned forehead.

Finn was sent flying a considerable distance, but ignored his pain choosing his next move.

Right after he balanced himself on the luminescent grass, Finn released a concentrated disruptive howl on the Hideous Goat causing its senses and movements to go disarray.

Finn lunge himself at it once more, activating the "Claw Slash" skill imprint in his core, using its guidance to concentrate energy on his claws.

While the Goat still struggled with its senses, Finn attacked with his claw, unwillingly letting go of the Claw Slashes.

Although the Hideous Goat couldn't still sense anything well, it stretched out its hands, aimed with them and its forehead. A brown translucent barrier - another inherent skill - formed blocking the claw slashes.

Making a pushing action, the Goat pushed the barrier as an attack aimed at Finn.

To avoid getting hit Finn jumped over it easily with his enhanced strength.

Upon his contact with the ground, Finn saw the Hideous Goat charge at him again, but he easily side stepped it.

Unfortunately something still made contact with his side–When charging, the Goat was being covered with a barrier. But it was merely a graze, not affecting him much.

Once more, the Hideous Goat and the White Fenrir were caught exchanging eyes that wanted the other dead.

Finn gave up on using his skills, he directly tried to use Mana to replicate the basics of the Claw Slash skill.

'Let's go with Plan B.'

Pulling out mana from his core, he brought it to his claw, wrapping the claw with the Mana.

Instead of using more Mana to increase the qualities and sharpness of it, he chose another path.

The inspiration for this being the Gust of Wind Blade from the Deer-bird and Rocky Pincers of the Walker Crabs.

'I'll go with the brown Mana.' Finn thought, using his mana cloaking the claw to attract the atmosphere's brown mana.
