Kamari crawled over to me, her eyes wide. "Can we really stay?" she asked, her voice small and uncertain.
I nodded, reaching out to take her hand. "Yeah, you can stay. We're family now."
She gave me a shy smile, her thumb slipping from her mouth. "Okay."
Dakari grinned, clapping his hands. "Awesome! Now that we're all friends, let's play a game!"
"What game?" Zahair asked, his curiosity piqued.
Dakari thought for a moment, his brow furrowing in concentration. "How about hide and seek? It's really fun, and there are lots of good hiding spots in the garden."
Zahair and Kamari both nodded, their eyes lighting up with excitement. I couldn't help but smile at their enthusiasm. Maybe this was the start of something good, something that could help us all heal.
"Okay, I'll be it first," I said, standing up and covering my eyes. "Count to thirty, and then I'll come find you!"
