Chapter 7 - Unidentified Soul-Type?

The end result of the battle, a catastrophic waste to a portion of the forest. The battle shifted to the forest after a series of exchanges, or rather a one-sided ass whooping. Rentaro fell unconscious, depleted of all his energy.

Fortunately, the school's building was still intact, however the same couldn't be said for the roofing.

"Over there!" A sweet, angelic voice proclaimed from afar, it belonged to Principal Hana and along with her was the proctor and his accomplice who stood besides him and several other teachers.

"Oh my gosh, what happened here?" She stuttered, the chaos that ensued minutes after she departed the school was tremendous. Six of their students laid unconscious on the ground, a man seriously injured not far from the last student.

"Help me! Take them to the infirmary." She announced, personally helping Mei up to her feet.

"I-it can be..." The proctor's accomplice stuttered, standing over Daichi.

He noticed the shimmering silver glow that encased his body, being present in the selection hall, he knew that although he couldn't awaken his Soul-Type, his Soul-Energy was drawn to the surface.

But that wasn't what caught his attention, the usual anticipation of such a scenario was the individuals Soul-Energy would leak away till his life force fades, resulting in his permanent end. But Daichi's Soul-Energy wasn't leaking, in fact it appeared as those it protected him and truly it did.

When used on a normal human, the voltage of the lightning bolt that electrocuted Daichi was far more than enough to completely shutdown their nervous system, resulting in near permanent damage. But somehow, it only knocked Daichi unconscious.

'Could it be...'

"Principal Hana, this boy..." One of the teachers in the academy called for her attention, he stood right besides Rentaro who was the closest to the man close to death.

'What happened here?' She thought, having no knowledge on what happened, but judging by the battle environment, Rentaro was the only one who could have done it, judging by his distance from the man, he was the only one who could have left the circular wound in the man's stomach.

However it was impossible in their ears.

"His face, he's one of the men the proctor brought along with him! Is he responsible for all this?"

"Most likely, and more importantly we don't have time to start speculating, we need to get this children to the infirmary and fast."

Without any precious time to waste, her team of teachers and her rushed the students into the school's medical room.

They were all diagnosed with mild concussions, all except Rentaro who was diagnosed with a bruised face and several wounds. Treatments were given instantly and his wounds patched up to prevent further infection.

..

[Minutes later]

The school recovered the body of the unconscious man and delivered him to an hospital. Their plan was to question him after he had regained consciousness, after a few observations, they discovered that the wound in his stomach as well as his cells were burnt by an unknown force.

"His medical results came in, injury by decaying cells. We have no idea what burnt him like that, but it contained characteristics of lightning."

The proctor, who also stood as their superior walked into the principals office, disclosing the results of his subordinates condition.

"I see, based off the six students he attacked, no one possessed such abilities right?"

"No, honestly how they survived is a mystery to me. But I deeply apologize on behalf of the Soul-Academy, one of our men nearly killed your students for reasons unknown to us, after he regains consciousness we'll personally deal with him." The proctor, Alister Vance , bowed his head in respect. Apologizing for his subordinates action.

"It's alright, at least there were no casualtie, I wouldn't know what I'd tell their parents if they were. That aside, how is Daichi? Do you think there's a chance we can save him?"

The silver glow that shimmered around his body could easily be mistaken for leaking energy, but upon closer observation it wasn't.

"I don't think there's any need to save him."

"What? What do you mean by that?" Hana inquired, her voice exuding a tone of displeasure.

"You see, his Soul-Energy isn't leaking from his body, infact it shrouded the entirety of his being. Protecting him from any physical harm."

"What?" The principal was stunned by this, she wasn't an expert in the use of Soul-Energy but she was well aware of the practical use of it, after all she's a retired Soul-User.

"Yes, but that's not the only mystery. That boy, Rentaro Mizuno."

"The talentless student that couldn't awaken a Soul-Type? What of him?"

"Circumstances are leading me to believe that he was the one that took down my subordinate."

A slight chuckle escaped the principals mouth, she never dared to belittle her students, but this situation sounded absurd. Daichi she could believe because he had more than enough Soul-Energy to awaken a Soul-Type but was unable to.

"How so? He doesn't even have enough Soul-Energy to awaken a Soul-Type."

"That's the thing ma'am, on my way back to the Soul Academy, the Orb suddenly illuminated the road."

"It illuminated the road? Why? Does it usually do that?"

"Since the beginning of time, the Orb Of Awakening has never shone when not touched. We thought the Orb didn't perform the light ritual because he didn't have enough Soul-Energy. But that isn't the case, my guess is, he had a second Awakening."

..

The same moment the principal and Vance Alister conversed, Rentaro's eyes slowly opened, awakening from his slumber.

He felt a sharp piercing pain in his head, and he could also feel how weakened he was, as though his body was drained of all the energy he had left.

'Urgh, my head... What happened?' As he raised his head slowly, his eyes glanced at the translucent blue screen that hovered in front of him.

"Huh?"

..

Principal Hana rose to her feet, standing before Vance almost like an indomitable fortress that refused to be shaken.

"What are you trying to tell me?"

"After the light died down, the Orb revealed a disturbing alphabet. An alphabet that I've only seen once in my years of recruiting capable Soul-Users." Vance was horrified, yet excited at this newfound discovery.

"What ranked Soul-Type did Rentaro awaken?" Hana questioned swiftly, feeling drowned by the intensity of the suspense.

"Huh?!"

In this world, an X-rank Soul-Type was a rank used to specify an unidentified Soul-Type, a Soul-Type that had never existed throughout the course of history. There's been a case like this in the past, but the practitioner is currently dead. Having an X-rank Soul-Type varied, it could be a good ability, but it could also be a useless ability. However it's most likely the latter.

"Principal Hana, for the first time in 2 years since recruiting. I've never been this joyful!"

He chuckled, grinning softly as he revealed, "Rentaro Mizuno — X-rank Soul-Type."
