Chapter 69: The Monster Tide
'In the midst of a Level One Monster Tide, they want to visit China?' A cold glint flickered in Qin Mu's eyes. What was their intention? Were they trying to take advantage of the chaos?
Since the advent of the regeneration potion, countless individuals had been eyeing it with greed. Various factions had launched waves of overt and covert probes, some seeking to purchase a batch of the potion, while others coveted the core technology behind it.
Buying the potion was one thing—after all, it was a legitimate way to make money. But those who sought to steal the technology were courting death.
In the ruins of City 023, Qin Mu soared into the sky, landing gracefully on the back of a Golden Flame Eagle. Across the city, a swarm of flying elite monsters, each with a wingspan of over thirty meters, gathered behind him, forming an imposing following.
"Let's go. It's time to witness the Level One Monster Tide."
Accompanied by over fifty elite flying monsters, Qin Mu sped toward City 003. As they flew, the auxiliary computer on Qin Mu's arm flickered to life, connecting him to Li Dawei.
"I'm approaching the battlefield, and I've brought fifty monsters with me," he reported. On the other end of the line, a cacophony of booming sounds erupted, reminiscent of countless cannons firing in unison.
"You're here? That's fantastic. The ocean monsters have launched their attack, and a group of Horde Leader monsters has already crawled ashore. Take them out first." Li Dawei's expression shifted from shock to uncontainable joy as he processed Qin Mu's words.
Fifty powerful flying monsters. Such a formidable force could send even the most powerful warriors into a panic. Li Dawei held a high-ranking position and was well aware of Qin Mu's recent promotion. How could he not be thrilled about such powerful reinforcements?
"Understood." After ending the call, the Golden Flame Eagle beneath him surged forward, racing toward the battlefield.
Over the Huangpu River in Shanghai, a colossal war fortress made entirely of steel and concrete opened fire with reckless abandon, its guns blasting with explosive fury. Thousands of massive cannons roared simultaneously, their thunderous sounds echoing even from dozens of miles away.
As Qin Mu arrived, he witnessed hundreds of rocket launchers firing in unison, igniting the sky in a brilliant display of fire. The Huangpu River erupted with violent explosions, shattering countless ocean monsters into pieces.
Yet, even as some monsters were obliterated, new waves surged forth from the depths, relentless and undeterred. For decades, the river had been besieged by an unending tide of ocean monsters, widening its banks beyond measure. The water teemed with these creatures, a relentless onslaught pouring forth in overwhelming numbers.
"Boom! Boom!" The deafening sounds of artillery fire reverberated, shaking the very ground.
Countless monsters weathered the barrage, pushing forward with ferocity. These creatures were bizarre and varied—armored crustaceans, serpentine sea monsters over thirty meters long, colossal squids, starfish, and a myriad of fish-like beasts. The array was almost endless.
Some fish leaped from the riverbed like projectiles, hurtling toward the steel fortress. From hundreds of meters away, gigantic squids unleashed torrents of black liquid, and Qin Mu watched in horror as several soldiers operating various weapons were hit, their bodies corroded and bones softened in an instant.
Not only in the Huangpu River but also along the banks, hordes of ocean monsters crawled forward, surging toward the war base in a relentless wave.
From above, the war base resembled a steel porcupine, firing frantically. Yet, despite its defenses, it struggled to repel the overwhelming tide of ocean monsters. Surrounding the war base was a dark mass of creatures, pressing forward in an unyielding wave. What was even more terrifying was the presence of numerous Horde Leader monsters among them. Ordinary artillery was ineffective against them.
A squad of soldiers manning laser cannons fired furiously, targeting the colossal Horde Leader monsters. Occasionally, a Horde Leader monster would be struck by a laser, its body engulfed in flames. However, many of these Horde Leader monsters had attacked the war fortress multiple times and were well-acquainted with the laser cannons. When targeted, they swiftly dodged, either plunging into the depths or using ordinary beasts to shield themselves.
In such a surging Monster Tide, the laser cannons were not invincible. The monsters were not merely passive; their counterattacks were equally fierce. Toxic water balls erupted from the ocean, bombarding the war base and damaging war machines while causing injuries among the personnel.
Perched atop the Golden Flame Eagle, Qin Mu's expression darkened. Centered around the war base, the entire Huangpu River, stretching for dozens of miles, was nearly overrun with ocean monsters.
The sheer number was staggering. Not only ordinary monsters—Qin Mu had already spotted over a hundred Horde Leaders.
"This is the Level One Monster Tide?"
When billions of monsters emerged all at once, the sheer shock was beyond words. Yet, amid the awe, a glint of greed sparked in Qin Mu's eyes. If the swarm devoured these monsters, how many Zerg could be hatched from their flesh and blood?
"Swarm. Eliminate all the Horde Leader monsters below." His gaze gleamed with bloodlust. Fifty Horde Leader monsters shrieked as they dove from the sky, targeting the monsters below.
With deadly intent, Qin Mu descended, his body clad in black armor, poised to strike. His target was a sea serpent monster, its body stretching over seventy meters, adorned with vibrant patterns. Two hundred and fifty-six crescent blades shot forth, and in an instant, the serpentine beast was sliced into dozens of mangled pieces.
Qin Mu soared at a terrifying speed, exceeding ten times the speed of sound, skimming just above the ground as he unleashed a whirlwind of destruction. Within a hundred meters of him, no monster was spared. Under the relentless attacks, a blood-red path was carved through the Monster Tide by Qin Mu.
The disparity in power was too great; even the elite Horde Leader monsters could not withstand any of Qin Mu's strikes. One after another, flying Zerg units descended from the sky, seizing ocean monsters to either tear apart or carry them into the air.
"This is the support mentioned in the notice. These Horde Leader monsters are actually on our side."
"Haha, this is the Wargod Qin Mu! Our military's invincible Wargod. The strongest beast tamer on Earth."
"It is said that all the monsters in our base were tamed by Wargod Qin Mu."
When the fifty Horde Leader flying monsters appeared, the entire war base erupted in cheers.
The news of Qin Mu becoming a powerhouse beyond the Wargod level had not spread yet; many still thought of him as a Wargod.
During this time, Qin Mu had handed over a hundred thousand Zerg units to the military, a significant portion of which had been transported to this war base to assist in combat. The military had not concealed the source of these monsters; they openly acknowledged that they came from Qin Mu.
In the command room, Li Dawei watched the flying monsters in the sky and Qin Mu slaughtering through the monster tide, unable to contain his smile.
"Pay attention to enemy identification. All our monsters have been marked; do not fire the laser cannons at our own monsters."
Aside from the laser cannons, other firearms such as anti-material rifles or large-caliber shells and rockets could only kill mid-level Commanders and maybe high Commanders. Ordinary firearms could not break through the defenses of Horde Leader monsters.
With the assistance of these Horde Leader monsters, the military's pressure was greatly relieved. The killing power of these flying Horde Leader monsters against the ocean monsters was immense; in just one assault, dozens of ocean Horde Leader monsters were killed.
Their efficiency was far superior to that of the laser cannons.
"Haha, this is the easiest Level One Monster Tide we've ever fought." Someone in the command room laughed heartily.
When has the military ever fought such a well-resourced battle? Fifty massive flying monsters. This was more effective than having fifty invincible Wargods join the fight.
Not to mention the unparalleled slaughter Qin Mu was wreaking among the horde. In just ten minutes, he had killed over twenty Horde Leader monsters, with ordinary ocean monsters falling in vast numbers. His attacks were brutal; he flew just above the ground or the river surface at over ten times the speed of sound while wielding 256 crescent blades. In his wake, the entire Level One Monster Tide seemed to be sliced into grid-like sections.
"Roar!" From the depths of the ocean came a thunderous roar. A giant shark over a hundred meters in size surged forth, enraged, leading the Monster Tide into an attack. Large groups of Horde Leader monsters surged from the bottom of the Huangpu River, crashing violently against the war base. The entire war base creaked and groaned, metal fracturing and cracks appearing.
At the base of the war fortress, specially designed deep-water bombs and torpedoes were launched.
"Boom——" "Boom——" "Boom——"
The military was not facing this kind of attack for the first time, so they were well-prepared. A senior military warrior clad in black armor plunged into the river, wielding a battle knife. Massive limbs were severed and sent flying from the riverbed, a torrent of blood pouring out, staining the Huangpu River red.
Seeing that the military could handle the situation without needing assistance, Qin Mu was not in a hurry to hunt the monsters. Instead, he focused his attention on a location more than ten miles away.
"King-level monsters?"
Qin Mu shot forward, diving directly toward the depths of the sea, targeting the location of the King-level monsters. To dispel the Monster Tide, the best way was, of course, to eliminate the mastermind behind the Monster Tide.
As the water parted, Qin Mu's figure raced through the ocean at high speed. Moments later, he discovered a King-level shark monster lurking at the seabed, its body over a hundred meters long.
"A King-level shark monster? Not just one King-level monster. There's also an octopus King-level monster."
Qin Mu's eyes lit up as the auxiliary computer on his wrist scanned the targets.
"Shark King, power level: planetary stage one." "Octopus King, power level: planetary stage three."
Without any hesitation, Qin Mu charged straight for the strongest octopus monster. The crescent blades around him spun wildly; even underwater, Qin Mu's combat power could easily slay a planetary stage three opponent.
As the crescent blades sliced through the water, mere seconds later, the chaos in the ocean came to a halt. The bodies of a hundred-meter-long shark monster and a three-hundred-meter-long octopus monster flew into the sky. Qin Mu had actually forced the corpses of these two King-level monsters out of the water and tossed them onto the shore.
