Chapter 5: Human Cell Repair Serum
In the morning, around six o'clock, Qin Mu bought a batch of meat and settled the worker bug before rushing to the Limit Dojo for a strength test.
"Strength 910kg, speed 27.1m/s." Qin Mu was ecstatic. The feedback from the larva's evolution into a worker bug was better than expected. The physical fitness requirements for fighters were a punching power of 900kg and a speed of 25m/s, and he had already exceeded the passing line. Especially in terms of speed, he far surpassed the requirements.
"Strength and speed are enough. Now it's all about the reaction speed," Qin Mu thought. He walked to the door of a smaller room in the practice hall, took a deep breath, and calmed his excitement.
The fighter assessment was divided into strength, speed, and reaction speed. Qin Mu was most concerned about the reaction speed, as it was a comprehensive test of footwork, strength, speed, and more.
He opened the door and saw a tall, expensive instrument placed inside. The front of the instrument resembled a six-barreled Gatling gun, but with many more metal tubes, numbering in the dozens. The reaction test required dodging rubber bullets and red light emitted by the instrument within a circle of 3.6 meters in diameter. Leaving the circle, touching the red light, or being hit by bullets would result in a deduction of points, and failing to meet the score would result in failure.
"Click!" Qin Mu turned on the instrument and stood in the red circle. The edge of the 3.6-meter diameter circle immediately emitted a hazy red light upward.
"Beep~~Beep~~"
The massive barrel of the neural reaction test machine began to rotate, and dozens of gun barrels almost instantly spewed out red light, with varying speeds and erratic flight paths. Qin Mu's eyes were fixed on the front, his body quickly dodging left and right, slipping through the gaps between the red bullets.
"Thud! Thud!" He was hit several times in succession. Fortunately, the bullets were made of rubber and had little power, so they didn't hurt much when they hit.
After several bursts of dodging, Qin Mu's body suddenly stiffened, and a sharp pain ran through him.
"It's affecting my injuries," Qin Mu's expression darkened. The stiffness of his body led to being hit multiple times in a row.
After a minute, the barrel of the test machine automatically slowed down and stopped rotating, and the central screen displayed the test data.
"In 60 seconds, hit 89 times, touched the red light five times. Failed!"
'As expected, compared to the relatively simple strength and speed tests, the footwork aspect is not good enough. These injuries are a big problem,' Qin Mu thought, looking at the results, which were far from passing.
In the morning, after the larva evolved into a worker bug, some of his injuries had been repaired, but once he made continuous bursts of effort, he felt a sharp pain and stiffness in his body. For these hidden injuries, Qin Mu had no other solution but to rely on the worker bug's continuous feeding to slowly repair them.
After several consecutive tests with unsatisfactory results, Qin Mu stopped to practice for a while.
"I wonder how long it will take for these injuries to fully heal. If they're not better by the time the assessment starts, it will be troublesome," Qin Mu thought, feeling a headache.
"It's not just the injuries; my footwork and reaction speed are indeed very poor and need more training. For now, I'll focus on training my footwork and reaction speed."
Recognizing his own shortcomings and weaknesses, Qin Mu began to train specifically. During rest times, he occasionally sensed the worker bug at home through the soul link. Since evolving from a larva into a worker bug, its feeding speed had noticeably increased.
Unfortunately, the worker bug's strength would no longer increase, and its feedback to Qin Mu, aside from healing injuries, would no longer enhance his strength. Qin Mu was not disappointed by this. It was just a worker bug, and it had already helped him reach the prospective fighter level, not to mention it could continue to heal his injuries. As long as he became a fighter and took it to the wilderness to incubate into a nest, his strength would undoubtedly improve significantly.
Now, he needed to focus on preparing for the prospective fighter assessment. He had to pass the reaction speed assessment before the end of the month.
Qin Mu devoted all his energy to training, and time flew by in the high-intensity training. However, he was still far from meeting the minimum requirements for reaction speed. At this rate, it would be difficult to achieve his goal by the end of the month, and Qin Mu had to consider what to do if he failed the assessment.
On June 23rd, in the evening, Qin Mu returned home exhausted after a day of training. After a simple wash, he collapsed on the sofa and turned on the TV to watch the news.
"Knock knock knock" A knock on the door sounded, and Qin Mu got up to look through the peephole. He quickly opened the door and welcomed in a square-faced, one-armed middle-aged man. "Uncle Qing."
Wang Qing nodded and walked in with a bag in his hand.
"Hmm, why does it smell so good in here?" As soon as he entered, Wang Qing noticed a strong fragrance.
"I've been cleaning these past two days and bought some air freshener. I must have sprayed too much," Qin Mu replied calmly with a smile. In reality, Qin Mu was worried that someone might smell the worker bug and deliberately sprayed a lot of air freshener. Before getting up to open the door, he had already instructed the worker bug to conceal its presence and hide in his room.
"I see. Look, I brought you something good," Wang Qing said, smiling as he took out a well-wrapped package. He opened the package to reveal an ordinary-looking box with the words "Human Cell Repair Serum" written on it.
"What's this?" Qin Mu was a bit taken aback.
"Human Cell Repair Serum, a good thing I got from a comrade in the military. It's a byproduct of gene serum research. It doesn't have much effect on fighters, but it's great for healing hidden injuries caused by training and can slightly enhance physical fitness. It's very simple to use, just inject it," Wang Qing explained, seeing Qin Mu's confusion.
"Don't tell anyone about this. It's a rare item in the military, and there's hardly any on the market."
Qin Mu actually knew about the Human Cell Repair Serum because it was an excellent healing medicine, and the original body had wanted to buy it after being injured, but it was impossible to find. Though it was only available within the military and couldn't be bought on the market, even at several times the price.
"Haha, I asked many comrades to buy it for you, but I couldn't get it. Fortunately, one of my comrades who had been through life and death with me recently received a military award, and I was able to get it," Wang Qing said with a sense of relief.
"Uncle Qing, I can't accept this! It's too valuable!" Qin Mu instinctively declined. It was indeed too valuable. Although it was priced at 200,000 yuan, if it were sold on the black market, it would be snapped up for a million yuan! This was no small sum.
Qin Mu knew Wang Qing's financial situation. Working at the military factory, he earned only 5,000 yuan a month. Even if he had a comrade help him buy it at the original price, it would still cost 200,000 yuan. Wang Qing would have to save for three and a half years without spending a dime to save that much.
"Who else would I give it to if not you? I bought it specifically for you! I waited half a year to get it, just to help you recover from your injuries," Wang Qing's face sank, and he scolded.
"Hurry up and use it. I know you've been training at the Limit Dojo every day recently. You already have hidden injuries, and if you keep training like this, your body will be ruined before you become a fighter."
Qin Mu fell silent. To be honest, he never expected someone to care for him like this. Normally, after crossing over and being an orphan, shouldn't he face people trying to oppress him. Qin Mu was filled with emotion, looking at Uncle Qing's tired yet still bright eyes.
After a moment, he smiled and no longer hesitated. "Alright, I'll use it."
He opened the packaging and took out a metal syringe. Following the instructions, he injected the transparent liquid into his arm.
