HOMECOMING
Samael had been in this meeting for an hour, and he wasn't sure how much longer he could listen to the incessant droning. He had thought the company had good potential but unfortunately they were not represented well, at all.
Thankfully before he could frazzle the man with another question, a knock at the door interrupted him. It was his secretary, Desmond.
Without questioning his presence, Samael rose to his feet, raising his hand to stop the man that was showing him the charts.
"I'm not done with-"
"I think I've heard enough. You either get someone competent for another meeting or this contract is cancelled." He started in a bored tone, straightening out his suit lapels.
"But-"
"This meeting is over." He announced in a firm tone and walked out of the room without another word.
"What is this about?" He directed the question to Desmond who had been following him from the meeting room.
"It is about your father," He responded with a hint of urgency.
Samael clenched his jaw and waited until they were in the confines of his office before he spoke,
"Tell me." He demanded, sitting in his chair opposite Desmond.
"I got information from a reliable source that he will be visiting soon. According to what I heard, he will be doing some inspections on the company affairs and your personal life." He explained, peering at his boss with a calm gaze.
Samael scrunched his nose at the information, of course he knew exactly what his father was interested in.
The Zeus family had always been a complicated one. A few months ago, Samuel's elder step-brother and the former CEO of Zeus enterprises, Conrad had been imprisoned for embezzlement of funds. Apparently he had been doing it for years until the information leaked and he was finally investigated.
Samael on the other hand couldn't care less about his step-brother. He took his imprisonment as a golden opportunity, he could finally take over the company. But his father was a cunning man, he could not be with anybody with the company after the first mishap. He saw his son's desperation to take over the family's Company, so he gave him a condition. He had to get married.
The apple didn't fall far from the tree and with equal shrewdness, he had lied to his father that he was engaged to his long term girlfriend. His father had bought the lie and soon afterward, the company was handed over to him.
However, Samael knew that his father could not be deceived for long, so he was not surprised by the news of his arrival. But he was worried about how quick it took him, he had thought he would have more time to prepare.
"How soon is he returning?" He asked Desmond with furrowed eyebrows.
"I-" He was cut off by the ring of a phone.
Samael recognised the sound as his phone's ringtone and grabbed it with the intention of declining the call, but he paused at the sight of the caller ID. It was his father.
"Father? Why are you calling?" He asked as soon as he accepted the call.
"Ah, always straight to the point as always Samael!" His father's strict voice monotonously said.
Samael sniffed in annoyance.
"Are you well Father?" He forced out in the same bored tone.
"I am very well son, thank you." He answered, sounding amused by his son's demeanour.
"I am returning to Los Angeles next week, but I'm sure you already know that," His father said with a knowing tone.
Samael did not dignify his comment with a response.
"Regardless, I want to meet your fiancée when I arrive. I have been waiting for far too long, I'm sure you understand?"
"Yes, father." He replied in a gruff tone.
"Good". Samael let out a sigh of frustration as the call ended.
"At Least we know when he will arrive now." He muttered in a butter tone.
"What do we do now?" Desmond asked with curiosity, fully aware of the importance of the situation.
Samael stared at him in thought, not saying a word.
"What about Janice?"
"No."
"Estelle?"
"No."
"Michelle"
"No."
"Sh-"
"That's enough, I am not taking back any of my past flings. I refuse to stoop that low." He cut him off with finality in his tone.
Desmond slouched into his seat with a sigh.
"Well how do you expect to suddenly find a fiancée before your father arrives in a week?" He asked exasperatedly.
"You could just come up with a better idea?" Samael suggested with a raised eyebrow.
"Why do I have to think of a solution to your problems?" He exclaimed with a frown.
"Because I pay you?" He taunted in reply.
"Good answer." Desmond retorted, seating up in the comfortable chair.
They sat in silence for a few minutes.
"I have an idea!" Desmond exclaimed, shooting up from his seat.
"Which is?" Samael questioned, watching him expectantly.
"What if… You get a fake fiancée!" He exclaimed dramatically.
Samael furrowed his eyebrows, urging him to go on.
"Think about it, we could find someone who matches the description you gave to your father and make them an offer they cannot refuse. You'll pretend to be in love and shit while your father is here and after a few months you can just tell your father that you broke up or something." Desmond explained with a glint in his eye.
Samael nodded, but he did not give him a verbal response. He thought the idea could actually work, if they could find someone to play the role as his fiancée perfectly then his father would have no reason to be distrustful of him anymore. They would act like a loving couple in the presence of his father and whatever happened behind him would not be any of his concern.
But now, there was only one thing left to worry about.
He turned his gaze to Desmond with an unreadable expression,
"So how do we find the perfect sweetheart?"
