CHAPTER SEVENTEEN
"Are you dumb?" he asked and Sarah's eyes widened in shock as Xavier's words hung in the air.
Sarah's eyes remained widened as she struggled to process the insult. How dare he! She thought. She had never been spoken to like that before.
Sarah felt a sting of hurt. No one had ever questioned her intelligence before. She had always been a good student and a hard worker. The idea that someone could think her dumb was infuriating. She's a smart upcoming journalist for goodness sake!
Sarah's thoughts swirled as she tried to make sense of Xavier's words. Was he questioning her intelligence, or was there something more to it? She didn't have time to ponder the question further, as Xavier's next words cut through her thoughts.
"What are you doing here?" he asked, his voice cold.
