Alfie pondered on his way to the temple: Would the chief believe his claim about Prone's possible impending doom?
There was even a nagging voice asking the same about Lucia, but he blocked out those thoughts.
As he entered through the front door of the temple its familiar layout appeared before his eyes.
The main lobby stood right before him except this time the chief and general were awaiting his arrival, sitting in the dining area.
"Lucia tells me that you have something important to discuss about the village?" The chief asks while sipping on his tea.
Alfie nodded while approaching the table. He rummaged through his bag before presenting a section in the book of prophecy to the duo.
"I want you guys to read this part of the book. I'll explain once you guys have finished," Alfie stated
The duo looked towards Alfie with confusion, the title of the book was quite intimidating but they read on to see what caused him to deem it so important.
The two held the book in between them, their gaze sharp. With each line read, however, their eyes grew colder and more concerned.
The chief's golden eyes stared at Alfie, asking for an explanation. Lucia's own eyes also gazed towards Alfie, though her silver eyes were much more soft.
"Before I start, I have another thing I have to tell you, chief. I've already told Lucia this but I feel you should know too. Plus it gives context," Alfie explained.
For the next few minutes, he explained with a very simplified version of what he had told Lucia. The chief only nodded letting Alfie finish his explanation without interruption.
"Then finally there comes the part related to what I showed you. Back in my previous world we too had gods and goddesses that were worshiped.
The only difference is that those gods were only known through stories. Unlike in Gaia where the gods readily intervened with mortals there was no such thing on earth.
And coincidentally one of the greatest mythologies on earth revolves around the gods of Gaia.
The names of the gods, their powers, domains almost everything lines up.
And the tale you read in that book also comes from my original world."
Lucia looked at Alfie with concern in her eyes, finally understanding the full scope of what he had kept hidden.
"But all of this resides on the fact that you're telling the truth right?" The chief asked.
"Yeah," Alfie answered truthfully.
"And you have no evidence to prove that you're telling the truth. That's quite hard to believe, you know." The chief responded with.
Alfie gritted his teeth, he really didn't have anything to prove his case and there wasn't much he could do to convince the chief.
It was expected honestly, Alfie believed this was how most people would have reacted when listening to his story.
What pained Alfie the most was that without the chief's support, it became increasingly harder to prepare if something were to happen.
Lucia, noticing Alfie's tenseness, squeezed his hand hoping that it would give a sense of support.
"Not having any evidence does make it hard to believe. So, it's a good thing I do believe you."
"Huh?" Alfie and Lucia said in unison
"You didn't really think you had no evidence, did you?
This explains your extensive knowledge of everything, and how you knew so much so soon.
I've told you in the past to correct your confidence, remember boy."
"Ah, yeah.." Alfie answered.
"But what about the fact that there exist other worlds out there? I mean that's pretty unbelievable?" Lucia asked.
"I could ask you pretty much the same no? Although unlike you my trust doesn't come from the blindness of infatuation." The chief countered
A slight blush appeared over Lucia's face due to the chief's blunt sentence.
"You see, I'm privy to a lot more information than most. So the concept of another world isn't as shocking," The chief sighed
Alfie and Lucia looked at him with intrigue, they were asking through their expression for the chief to explain.
"As the two of you know, there are other priests that worship different gods and have built different villages.
What you need to know is that we priests were the first creations of the creator, and I was the first.
When the creator showed us to the other higher gods, each one of them invited one of us to be their priest.
Unlike other priests who were chosen by less notable gods, I was selected by the King of the skies."
Alfie and Lucia nearly jumped out of their chairs from the bombshell the chief had dropped on them.
Lucia pointed towards the sky, "You mean Him…?"
Alfie came to a realization, however, "But, wait you're not his priest so that means.."
"Yes, I rejected his invitation." The chief answered
Bombshells dropped in Alfie's mind. That god, who was known for being not so great getting rejected? It was a good thing the chief was an old man…
