Chapter 11 - An angry mother

"Mate, what mate? The Queen asked cluelessly until she recalled what her daughter had told her minutes ago and her eyes dropped down to sight the other pair of the mating mark on the King's neck and her fingers folded into a ball in anger as she tried to hold down the welling anger trying to spill out from her.

But she was doing a very horrible job holding back as she felt her blood gush into her head fueling her anger.

"What did you do to my baby girl, you monster!" The Queen bellowed as she rushed at the king, her left hand conjuring her staff ready for battle.

The Queen's majestic transparent wings made an appearance as she elevated in the air her white hair coming to life and floating around her.

The tension in the room began to thicken and crack with energy as she hurled a spell at the King through the tips of her staff.

The air seemed to break away as the surroundings crackled with energy giving way to the lightning-blue ball.

The King didn't move to dodge but allowed the spell to hit him right in the chest. He didn't seem to be affected at all.

"I would give you a second to put your weapon away and stand down else the whole Fairy Clan will cease to exist." The King slowly uttered an underlying threat in his voice, his dark gaze fixed on the floating fairy.

His words seemed to do nothing but anger the Queen even more as she summoned another lightening blue ball from her staff and propelled it towards the King. This ball is filled with more killing intent than the first.

Still, the King deflected it again with just a sway of his fingers, a small portal seemed to open up in his palm and swallow up the Queen's attack.

Lyra knew she had to do something to diffuse the tension as two powerful entities fighting here would cause a huge disaster but she was more worried about her mom, Although she might be the most powerful in the Fairy Clan she was still no match for the King. She didn't want her Mom getting hurt because of her.

"Mom, can you hold me, am cold," Lyra called out softly to her mom trying to get the Queen's mind shifted from rage and that seemed to work as she noticed her mother's blue eyes settle on her before she slowly descended, her staff vanishing as she took her daughter in her arms and rubbed at her bare arms.

"You do know she is not a Fairy. Sooner than later she would be found out. My question is, can you still keep her safe when all forty kingdoms are after her head?" The King listed out the possibilities that may later play out, knowing she was a wise Queen and would make the right decision.

"Leave me and my daughter alone." The queen ordered her voice weak after some moments of silence and mulling over the King's words.

"Are you giving an order to your King?" The king asked, his eyebrows raised.

"Why don't you just leave my room? I didn't remember letting you into my room." Lyra chipped in with a frown not liking the way he spoke to her mom making her feel less of a Queen.

The King held her gaze for seconds before he stood up and blended into the shadows.

"You do have him under control." The Queen chuckled. "The king listens to no one." She continued as she cast a spell around them to keep the conversation hidden before facing her daughter again.

"I knew this time would come but I didn't expect it to be this soon. Take this." with her index finger pointed at Lyra's forehead the Queen conjured a butterfly.

The butterfly was transparent, its wings barely making a sound as it flew straight into Lyra's head and vanished.

This was the emergency beacon that every ruler had in the Fairy Can, only heirs were in possession of it. Lyra, seeing this, tried to stop her mom.

Her mom stood firm and didn't back down but held Lyra firmly in her arms, her gaze decisive. "This is the only way I would be settled enough to leave you with that monster." She bit out her words filled with venom.

"If you are ever treated badly while you stay here, active this. The whole fairy kingdom will wage war and I will come for you." The Queen explained, looking weak as she wasn't powerful enough to take her daughter out of the King's grasp.

Lyra nodded in understanding. "If for once you get tired of him being your mate, just come home. I will find a way to break this stupid mating bond." With hands petting Lyra's head, the Queen made up her mind.

Lyra couldn't help but pull her mom into a tight hug taking in the scent of fresh flowers that wafted out of her.

"Always remember that you will always be my baby girl and that the fairy kingdom will forever be your home." The Queen ended as the barrier set up slowly melted away.

As though he had gone nowhere the King immediately appeared again.

"If you hurt a hair on my daughter's head I will be back for your neck." The Queen threatened as she slowly disintegrated into sparkling fireflies and fled out the window.

"Mom! Mr Calworth really likes you!" Lyra called out to her Mom as her presence faded.

"Don't embarrass me little one!" her Mom's laughter rang around before being carried away by the wind. Lyra stood looking out the window with a smile on her face.

Lyra, as though just remembering that the King was still seated there, turned to glare at him.

"You need to accord some respect to my Mom and not treat her like your subject." Lyra folded her arms as she pointed out.

"Come here." The King ordered his heated gaze fixed on her small frame.

They both felt the presence of someone approaching and the King slowly blended into the shadow and out of sight.
