Chapter 178 - Chapter 178: Flipping the Table and Being Expelled

Sunan was never one to take threats lightly. Since the Starlight Tower offered him no choice, he decided to forgo choosing altogether.

He flipped the table instead!

The silver metallic storm tore through the invisible force field in an instant. As soon as Sunan's fingers touched the Construction Potion, he stored it in his spatial ring.

In quick succession, he also snatched up the book and the Psychic Pearl.

Only then did the fleshy orb react to Sunan's sudden attack.

[Warning!]

[The Starlight Tower is under attack, initiating defense protocols!]

A beam descended silently from above, striking Sunan.

The shield surrounding Sunan shattered instantly, followed by the energy particle barrier. The beam halted just two or three centimeters from his body, creating a brief distortion before dissipating.

The defense value of the Aegis Ring dropped by more than three hundred points in an instant!

Sunan's gaze shifted slightly toward the ceiling of the hall.

The power of this beam was nearly on par with a spell turret.

It was crucial to disable the device emitting these beams; otherwise, no amount of Aegis Rings would suffice.

With a quick calculation, Sunan formed a plan.

An Iron Golem suddenly appeared above him, taking the brunt of an incoming beam.

The Iron Golem shattered instantly, scattering metal fragments in all directions.

Using this opportunity, Sunan located the source of the beam. His metallic storm shifted direction, crashing into a turret-like device on the ceiling and shattering it instantly!

Crash!

The walls around the hall suddenly opened, revealing doorways from which Stone Golems emerged, surrounding Sunan from all sides.

"A puppet battle, is it?"

Sunan chuckled; this was one area where he had confidence.

As more Stone Golems appeared around him, they charged fearlessly at the enemy.

A fierce battle of golems erupted in the hall!

Towering Stone Golems clashed with each other, their massive fists pounding on one another, the heavy impacts echoing like thunder throughout the hall.

Every moment, a Stone Golem fell, reduced to rubble.

The battle quickly turned into a war of attrition!

Sunan held back from further action, remaining vigilant.

He had to conserve his strength for whatever the Starlight Tower might throw at him next.

Despite his caution, Sunan wasn't overly worried.

The Starlight Tower was designed for wizard apprentices, not as formidable as a true wizard's tower, so its defensive capabilities couldn't be too overwhelming.

He had come well-prepared for this venture, bringing two small golem armies and holding several trump cards, giving him the confidence to flip the table.

Since the Starlight Tower wouldn't let him leave, he intended to take it down and claim its resources for himself!

Realizing Stone Golems weren't effective against Sunan, the tower soon deployed Iron Golems.

Sunan responded in kind, releasing Iron Golems and elite dual-blade spiders, outnumbering the tower's golems and gradually pushing the battle line toward the doors.

As Sunan's golem army occupied two-thirds of the hall, the previously motionless fleshy orb finally reacted.

[Detected increase in intrusion intensity, elevating defense level to Tier 2!]

With a buzzing hum, the entire Starlight Tower seemed to tremble.

Intense energy fluctuations erupted from above the hall.

Sunan looked up to see numerous meter-wide magic arrays manifesting in the void, each deploying a turret with a glowing tip.

A full eighteen turrets!

With a hum, the eighteen turrets fired simultaneously, beams as thick as barrels slicing through the air toward Sunan!

Unlike the earlier improvised turret, these eighteen turrets were genuine spell turrets with incomparable power.

Sunan didn't dare take them head-on. Instantly, the elite dual-blade spiders around him leapt up, forming a barrier above him with their bodies.

However, the spell turret blasts could easily annihilate even a third-circle legendary knight, leaving the second-circle legendary spiders unable to withstand them.

In an instant, over twenty elite dual-blade spiders were disintegrated.

Their sacrifice only absorbed four beams; the remaining beams continued toward Sunan with unstoppable force.

Seizing the moment, Sunan cast Mirror Image, splitting into eight and dispersing in different directions.

The beams pursued relentlessly, soon striking all eight "Sunan" figures.

Seven clones vanished like bubbles, while Sunan's real body took two direct hits.

His shield shattered instantly, and the Aegis Ring's 1000 defense points dropped to zero.

Fortunately, after passing through two layers, the beams were significantly weakened, easily blocked by the magic core.

The attack left Sunan alert.

"I can't let these turrets keep attacking, or even an abundance of Aegis Rings won't suffice!"

Without hesitation, Sunan hurled over a dozen high-grade rune gems.

Even against eighteen spell turrets, he wasn't intimidated.

Boom! Boom!

The thunderous blasts in the hall intensified!

Accompanied by dazzling elemental lights and stray beams.

Sunan, sparing no expense, became a living artillery, countering the spell turrets with equal ferocity.

The turrets crumbled under the relentless bombardment of high-grade rune gems.

In a matter of seconds, all eighteen spell turrets were destroyed!

Sunan paid the price of seven Aegis Rings and over sixty high-grade rune gems.

Holding the Psychic Pearl in his hand, absorbing it to replenish his mental energy, Sunan couldn't help but feel grateful.

Thankfully, the Starlight Tower wasn't a true wizard's tower, equipped with only eighteen spell turrets. Otherwise, with a hundred standard turrets simultaneously firing, even with Aegis Rings and a magic core, he'd have been obliterated instantly.

During the brief moments Sunan destroyed the spell turrets, the tower's golems were overwhelmed, unable to raise their heads.

Seeing Sunan's golem army nearing the doors, the tower promptly closed all entrances.

[Detected increase in intrusion intensity, elevating defense level to Tier 3!]

[Warning, Tier 3 defense protocol activated, suspending all non-essential energy consumption, halting non-combat facility operations!]

As the announcement ended, the central giant metal door swung open, and massive figures emerged.

They resembled deformed ogres but were far larger.

Their height exceeded twenty meters.

Their bodies appeared as if made of clay, their surface showing numerous pained and twisted faces, as if other creatures were trapped within, struggling to escape.

Their faces lacked features, only a deep black cavity.

"Dark Golems!"

Sunan's expression turned serious.

These were evil golems made of flesh and souls, crafted from beings subjected to extreme torment, infused with malice, pain, and despair.

Due to the evil nature of their materials, few wizards crafted Dark Golems, usually only necromancy specialists.

The combat power of Dark Golems far surpassed Adamantine Golems, reaching fourth-circle legendary levels.

And there were four of them!

Sunan surmised this was likely the final battle lineup of the Starlight Tower!

"Ah!!!"

Painful wails emanated from the black cavities on the faces of the Dark Golems.

The sound, laden with despair and agony, caused Sunan's head to throb, leaving him momentarily dazed.

When he regained his senses, the four Dark Golems had already charged into his golem army, breaking through with unstoppable force.

Outside the Starlight Tower.

After Sunan and his group entered the tower, those hidden around couldn't sit still any longer, emerging to gather around the tower, trying various methods to get inside.

Unfortunately, all attempts failed, and a few unlucky ones seemed to trigger some taboo, getting blasted to ashes by the spell turrets.

For a while, the crowd looked at the Starlight Tower helplessly, like staring at a delicious cake they couldn't reach.

At that moment, a flash of light appeared on the open ground before the tower, and over a dozen figures materialized.

It was the members of the Council of Truth, along with the Staff, Rose, the Traveler, and Kyi.

"What happened? Why are we outside?" Maevich exclaimed, baffled.

He had been focused on studying a spellbook, preparing to overcome the trial, only to find himself back outside in the blink of an eye.

What had happened??

No one had an answer for him.

Everyone, including Megisen, looked confused, exchanging bewildered glances.

The Staff and the others were equally perplexed, at a loss.

"What happened?"

"Did we trigger some rule and got expelled?"

"Probably not; look, the Council of Truth members were also expelled."

"Then what... wait! Where's Sunan?"

Prompted by Kyi, the others snapped to attention.

Indeed, everyone who entered had been expelled, except Sunan.

Could he still be inside the tower?

The four exchanged glances, a thought simultaneously crossing their minds.

Could this situation be related to Sunan?

If it were Sunan, causing such a scenario seemed plausible.

In fact, the current situation couldn't be unrelated to Sunan.

"Something's not right; Sunan hasn't come out!"

On the Council of Truth's side, Ivans quickly noticed Sunan hadn't been expelled with them.

Maevich's face darkened, and he said sternly, "Everyone was expelled from the tower, except Sunan. He must be behind this. Capture his companions and interrogate them!"

"Don't waste your efforts; those guys clearly don't know anything."

Fabio glanced at the equally confused Staff and company, frowning in thought.

"But this is likely related to Sunan. What exactly did he do?"

No one could figure it out.

"Regardless of what happened, the priority is finding a way back into the tower."

Megisen said gravely, frowning at the sigil stone in his palm.

"It's useless," Fabio had already tried. "The key's unresponsive."

The others tried several more times in disbelief, but no matter how they activated the key, it was in vain.

With no choice, everyone turned to Megisen, awaiting his decision.

Megisen's expression darkened as he pointed at a nearby armored middle-aged man, clearly a legendary knight, and commanded coldly:

"You, attack the Starlight Tower!"

The knight's face changed dramatically. "What are you trying to do?"

Maevich understood Megisen's plan, stepped forward, and stared coldly at the knight, saying icily, "Attack the Starlight Tower or die; choose one!"

The other members of the Council of Truth also cast unfriendly gazes.

The knight's expression fluctuated for a moment before he finally yielded.

He couldn't possibly contend with over a dozen third-level wizard apprentices.

With a pale face, the knight approached the Starlight Tower, hesitated, then gritted his teeth and unleashed a sword energy, swiftly retreating and watching the tower's top warily.

The previous unfortunates had been killed by beams from the tower's top!

Yet, nothing happened.

The tower remained silent.

Seeing this, the knight showed a joyful expression of having escaped death.

Megisen and his group exchanged glances.

"It seems something has changed inside the tower," Fabio mused, frowning.

"Why bother with all that?" Maevich said eagerly. "If attacking the Starlight Tower doesn't trigger a response, we should go all out. Once we break the defense array, we can enter the tower without keys!"

Everyone agreed with this statement.

Without delay, Megisen and the others launched their spells, countless magical attacks landing on the Starlight Tower.

The defense array enveloping the tower rippled in response.

Seeing the Council of Truth's actions, the Staff quickly understood.

"It looks like they're trying to break through directly!"

The Traveler hesitated. "Should we join in?"

The three exchanged a quick glance, not hesitating long before joining the assault on the Starlight Tower.

Kyi hesitated for a moment before joining in as well.

Unlike the others, he wasn't as eager or desperate for the Starlight Tower.

After all, he had already consumed the Dawn Potion.

In contrast, he was more concerned about any danger Sunan might be facing inside the tower.

Whatever the case, breaking through the defense array to investigate seemed prudent.

With the strongest groups present leading the attack, the rest of the onlookers couldn't stay idle, quickly joining the assault.

Once the defense array was breached, the tower's doors would be open to them as well.

Then, they too could share in the spoils!

The thought invigorated many.
