Who... are you?
The girl had her back to me and was crying.
Who are you?
I wanted to walk over to her, but my body defied my command.
Who are you!
I tried to speak, but no sound came out. The girl stopped crying and gradually walked away.
Who are you!
...
"Are you out of your mind?"
Jiang Li's delicate voice came from beside my ear. I opened my eyes, and the bright world gradually became clear from being blurry. After blinking a few times, I saw Jiang Li's pretty face right in front of me.
"Where... is this?"
"Near the river valley," Jiang Li shrugged. "You were knocked out by a flashbang last night. It took me a lot of effort to move you here."
"How long have I been asleep?" I got up from the ground. There was a simple but soft straw mat beneath me. I covered my head and looked around. I was under a tree, and when I looked around, I could see the river valley from last night. The effect of the flashbang had already worn off. I picked up the M4 beside me and walked forward, wanting to go to an open place to observe.
Jiang Li pulled me back. "Are you crazy? What if there's a sniper?"
"A sniper?"
"Yeah." Jiang Li handed me my laser rangefinder telescope. "Take a look for yourself."
In the river valley through the telescope, there were several small figures going back and forth to survey the scene. A team of people was on guard beside them, and a tall white man was standing in the middle of the river valley giving commands. There were about ten people at the scene, which didn't match the remaining number of people in Team A.
"How many did you take out last night?"
"Counting the one in close combat later, it was six in total. The rest of them are all here."
"That's not right, is it?"
"My booby traps should have taken out a few more. The rest should be snipers, and the other side definitely won't show all their forces on the surface. Get ready to work."
"Huh?"
Jiang Li gave me a sideways look. "You should be okay after sleeping for eight hours, right? See that rock over there?"
"Yeah." Jiang Li was referring to a huge rock protruding from the flat ground, about a hundred or so meters away from here.
"Once we're discovered, you run up there."
"What for?" I suddenly realized. "To shoot them?"
"Yeah." Jiang Li lay down on the spot and pulled out her sniper rifle.
"There must be an ambush, okay?"
"I know that."
"Then why are we still shooting?"
"Come on, we've already won." Jiang Li pointed over there. "Taking out one more is a bonus for us. Data."
"I'm really impressed by you." I lay down beside her. "The wind is blowing eastward, the wind speed is 2.2, the target distance is 858.6 meters, a white man, the commander, and the location is open. Are you ready?"
"Of Course."
Jiang Li pulled the trigger. Lying beside her, I clearly felt her body tremble a bit. Due to the recoil, the bipod of the M40A3 plowed a shallow mark on the ground. About a second later, yellow smoke rose from the man's body.
"Target hit. Looking for the next target."
I whispered. A flash of light flashed through the telescope.
What was that...
I instinctively felt a sense of danger from that light. Every hair on my body standing on end was telling me how dangerous it was. It was as if I was bewitched by that flash of light, frozen in place and unable to move. My brain just froze, and only my body was blinking...
"Get out of the way!"
In a hurry, Jiang Li kicked me hard. Under the action and reaction forces, the two of us rolled to opposite sides respectively. Leaves, branches, and dirt slapped against my face, and the scratches were burning with pain. During the roll, I heard the sound of bullets hitting the dirt.
Now I realized what that was.
"Sniper, near the river valley!" I roared.
An urgent voice came from beside my ear. "There's another one, halfway up the northwest mountain!"
Two of them?! I grabbed my M4 rifle and didn't dare to raise my head in the grass. The two sniper rifles didn't fire again, but all kinds of gunshots could be heard continuously.
"Get down!" Jiang Li's voice came again. The somewhat slow but fierce roar of the M60 rang out. Bullets flew all the way from the river valley to near us. The effective range of the M60 depended on the bipod, but no matter which version it was, we were within its effective range!
In the dust, I saw the girl's face. It was a bit dirty with dirt but still bright and beautiful. "Stick to the plan!"
"What about you?"
"Don't worry about me!"
I made an "OK" gesture, regardless of whether Jiang Li could see it or not, and directly crawled towards that rock. After crawling a dozen or so meters, I started running. The other side hadn't noticed our movements for the moment.
The sunlight shone on the rock, making its surface scorching hot. When I climbed to the top, I raised my rifle and looked down through the scope. In the red crosshair of the ACOG, I saw four moving figures in the distance. It was a very standard four-person team, with the machine gunner as the core, and there was a rifleman at 45 degrees in front, left, and right. For the sake of advancing speed, they completely gave up concealment, which was why I could spot them so quickly.
They're here pretty fast, I thought to myself. This team should have been arranged by the other side's follow-up commander nearby. Otherwise, there was no reason for them to arrive so quickly. I fired three shots at the machine gunner and eliminated him. This move exposed my position in the next second. The first assaultman immediately raised his gun and fired at me. The bullets hit the rock, making a crackling sound.
A few bullets grazed my cheeks. I tried to keep as low as possible while shooting. The three people below were counter-attacking while continuing to charge forward. They adopted an attack tactic similar to "Hellfire". One person fired with all his strength while the other two rushed forward when their comrade provided fire cover, and they took turns switching tasks among the three of them. The intense firepower gave me no chance to attack, and I was almost eliminated myself. So I simply slid down the rock and put my left hand on the M203 grenade launcher.
The other side's expected direction of surprise attack was on the right. I opened the grenade sight floating above the barrel and fired all five 40 mm grenades I had in one go. I didn't expect to eliminate them, but took this opportunity to replace the magazine of my M4A1 with a new one. Now there were 31 bullets inside it.
Here they come! Urgent footsteps came from the right. Before the figure appeared, I fired in advance, but the other side dodged with a dive and then rushed straight at me. Facing this situation, I directly gave up my rifle and reached for the quick-draw holster on the outside of my thigh. The other side was almost right on top of me.
In the blink of an eye, I saw my opponent clearly. It was a blonde girl with green eyes and a pretty face that was as cold as early spring. The girl crashed into the rock with me. A few knee strikes aimed at my abdomen were blocked by me waving my hands. I tried to shake her off, but instead, she used the force to climb onto my upper body and formed a standard chokehold position.
However, I didn't let her succeed either. Before she could complete the chokehold on me, I pushed off with my legs and rushed towards the huge rock beside me several times. After this attack ended, I finally pulled out my self-defense pistol, the M1911. When I launched the attack, the girl noticed my movement and used her body to spin with me. By chance, she also eliminated one of her teammates.
After doing our best to counter each other, we both fell in an "8" shape, restraining each other. The other side was unhurried, but I knew that if I delayed any longer, I wouldn't have a chance. Her teammates were on their way. It would only take a few seconds.
So I pulled the pin of the last M26A2 hand grenade.
