Love didn't see the moment when Ren disappeared from the empty, decimated street.
All she saw was Ezra, still and unmoving.
As she staggered towards him, the last vestiges of the drug slowly burned its way out of her system, but every new beat of her heart felt as though it were spreading poison through her veins as she felt a raw ache building in her chest.
'He isn't, he isn't dead, he can't be dead.'
"Ezra." She called his name, her voice rasping as the drug wore away from her throat, "Ezra, stop it. Get up." Love shook him lightly but he lay still and unresponsive.
In that moment Love didn't consider the concept that a vampire could withstand such an injury and through the vestiges of the drug in her system, her mind only registered that Ren had snapped his neck, and Ezra was dead. Cold, unbreathing and missing a heartbeat.
