The rest of the day passed in a blur for Till. After Noah had run the course, finishing second next to a tall, muscular boy who had intermittently attempted to trip him at each obstacle, he had approached Till in a sour mood, before noting Kit's absence.
"Where's Kit? Did something happen?" He had asked, noting his friend's uncharacteristically quiet and contemplative mood.
Till shook his head staring off across the field where Kit had left to stand alone, apart from the rest of the group.
The tense atmosphere between them continued throughout the day while Till's mind whirred with anxiety.
'Maybe he's right…no, I think I'm angry, why would he say that? Surely he knows - shit. Does he know? Ergh.' Till rubbed his face in exasperation as the night fell and he walked through the empty courtyard alone.
