Chapter 3 - Chapter 2: The Rivalry Begins

Isaki stood at the training grounds, his heart pounding with a mixture of excitement and nervousness. The three-year military training had begun, and this was his chance to prove himself worthy of entering the Fate Academy. The first weeks were grueling—intense drills, combat exercises, and daily lessons on military strategy and discipline. The field was filled with young boys and girls, all determined to succeed, but only those who showed true potential would be recommended to join the prestigious academy.

Among them, Isaki stood out, not only because of his rigorous training under his father, Izaku Ryo, but also because of his natural talent with a sword. Yet, despite his determination, it wasn't long before he encountered a formidable obstacle in the form of Riku Tenma, another recruit who quickly emerged as a rival.

Riku, tall and agile with spiky blonde hair and piercing black eyes, hailed from a small noble family. He was charismatic, always with a confident smirk, and was well-known among the recruits for his speed and precision in combat. Riku took an immediate interest in Isaki, often taunting him, seeing his strength as a challenge. Their rivalry began during one of the early sparring sessions.

"Isaki Ryo, huh? I've heard of you. The son of the great Izaku. But do you think you can live up to his name?" Riku had said with a sneer as they prepared to face off in front of the other recruits.

Isaki narrowed his eyes, gripping the hilt of his practice sword. "I don't need to live up to anyone's name. I'll make my own."

The duel had been intense. Isaki's swordsmanship was excellent, but Riku's speed and agility made him a difficult opponent. Blow after blow, the two clashed under the eyes of the instructors and the other trainees. Riku was faster, but Isaki's strength and disciplined strikes kept him in the fight. The match ended in a draw, but it was clear to everyone present that these two were evenly matched in skill, and their rivalry would only intensify as the training progressed.

Over the next few months, Isaki's life fell into a steady rhythm of waking up before dawn, training until sunset, and collapsing into bed at night, only to repeat it all again the next day. The military camp was designed to break the weak and forge the strong. Only those who could endure would come out victorious, and Isaki was determined to be one of them.

He was pushed to his limits, not only by the demanding routines but also by Riku, who constantly tried to outshine him. Every time Isaki improved, Riku found a way to match or surpass him. The competition between them became almost legendary among the other recruits, sparking rumors and bets about who would come out on top by the end of the three years.

Yet, amid the rivalry, Isaki always remembered his father's words. Izaku, a towering figure of strength, was a man Isaki admired deeply. Unbeknownst to Isaki, his father was hiding a painful truth—his Aura was waning. The great warrior, once known for his immense power, felt his strength fading, his connection to the Aura weakening day by day. Izaku had trained his son fiercely, not just to make him strong but to prepare him for the world beyond the village, a world where Isaki might have to fend for himself.

"You have to become stronger, Isaki," Izaku had told him during one of their final training sessions before Isaki left for military training. "There will come a time when I won't be there to protect you."

At the time, Isaki didn't understand the weight of those words. But now, in the military camp, as he faced countless challenges, the meaning was becoming clearer. His father had prepared him for this—trained him for moments like these, where his survival depended on his strength, discipline, and willpower. But Isaki was unaware of the deeper reason behind his father's insistence. To Isaki, Izaku was still the unshakable warrior, the man who had never lost a fight, who still commanded respect wherever he went. But the truth was far more fragile.

As the months passed, Isaki's rivalry with Riku continued to fuel his progress. They competed in everything—whether it was physical endurance tests, sparring matches, or even strategic exercises. And while their competition was fierce, it was also what pushed both of them to improve beyond their limits.

In the final months of the first year of training, the recruits were taken to a more dangerous area for a survival test. They were tasked with surviving in the wild for several weeks, facing harsh conditions, hunting for food, and defending themselves from wild creatures that roamed the forests.

It was during this test that the rivalry between Isaki and Riku reached a boiling point. They were paired in the same squad, forced to work together despite their differences. Isaki, who had always valued discipline and cooperation, found Riku's recklessness frustrating. Riku, on the other hand, saw Isaki's adherence to rules as a weakness.

"You'll never become strong if you're always playing by the rules," Riku had taunted one night as they huddled by a campfire, the cold winds howling through the trees.

"Strength isn't about breaking rules, Riku," Isaki replied, his eyes fixed on the flames. "It's about having the discipline to follow through."

Riku smirked, his black eyes gleaming in the firelight. "We'll see who's right in the end."

Despite their differences, the two worked together to ensure their squad survived the test. And in those moments, Isaki began to understand something about his rival. Riku wasn't just driven by pride—he was driven by something deeper, perhaps even a fear of failure. It made Isaki see him in a different light, though their rivalry remained as strong as ever.

By the end of the first year, both Isaki and Riku had emerged as the top recruits. They were stronger, faster, and more skilled than they had been before. But the path ahead was still long, and as the second year of training approached, Isaki knew that the real challenges were only just beginning.
