It was supposed to be an ordinary day.
I had just finished a long shift at my job. The kind that sucks the soul out of you and leaves you wondering why you even bother. The fluorescent lights had flickered above me all day, and the hum of cheap electronics was the soundtrack of my life. The world didn't care about me, and I didn't care much for it either. My hands stuffed in my pockets, my head down, I trudged through the streets of a city that never seemed to sleep, but somehow always felt dead.
The crosswalk light flashed, and I stepped off the curb without a second thought. A car screeched around the corner, but I didn't look up in time. The headlights were the last thing I saw. There wasn't even enough time to feel pain.
And then... nothing.
---
I didn't wake up in a hospital, or at the scene of some dramatic rescue. No beeping heart monitors or doctors rushing around me. No blood. Instead, I was floating in a white void. There was no sound, no sense of gravity, and no feeling of a body. Just... empty. For a moment, I wondered if this was death. The end. The big nothing.
But before that thought could settle in, a voice pierced the silence.
"Ah, you're awake," it said, casual and warm, like an old friend who'd been expecting me. I turned—or, at least, my consciousness turned, since I wasn't sure I even had a body anymore.
In the vast white expanse, a figure appeared, sitting on what looked like a plush, golden armchair. He was dressed like a mix between a medieval king and a retiree on vacation. A white robe flowed over one shoulder, while the other shoulder was bare, tanned and relaxed. A gold crown sat crookedly on his head, and a drink—something tropical—was perched in one hand.
"Uh... where am I?" I asked, my voice echoing weirdly in the emptiness. I glanced down, still no body. Great.
"Well," the figure said, crossing one leg over the other, "I guess you could call this... limbo. Or the waiting room. Pick whichever name feels right to you. Personally, I call it 'the chill zone.'" He took a sip from his drink, ice clinking against the glass. "You know, for dramatic effect."
I blinked—or at least tried to. "Am I dead?"
"Well, yes. And no. It's complicated," the figure replied, standing up. He stretched lazily, as if waking from a nap, and finally fixed his eyes on me. "You're dead by the standards of your world, sure. But... I'm here to offer you a deal. A second chance, if you will."
My mind whirled. "A second chance? What are you, some kind of god?"
The figure smiled at that, a twinkle of amusement in his eyes. "Ah, good question. Technically, yes. People in your world have a lot of names for me. God, the Almighty, the One Above. You know the drill. But let's not get bogged down with labels. Call me whatever you like."
God. Right. Of course. I must've hit my head harder than I thought. Or maybe this was some sort of weird coma dream. But even in that dazed state, curiosity gripped me. "So, what's the deal?"
God clapped his hands together, making a sharp sound that echoed in the white space. "I like that. Straight to the point. Here's the thing: I'm giving you the opportunity to start over. But this time, in a different world. And with a little bonus to help you along."
I frowned, my mind struggling to catch up with what he was saying. "A different world?" I repeated. "What do you mean?"
God smiled again, this time with a hint of mischief. "You ever hear of a place called *The Boys*?"
I blinked—or at least tried to again. *The Boys*. Of course, I had heard of it. A world where superheroes weren't the noble, virtuous icons people loved in comics. No, they were corrupt, dangerous, and ruled by a corporation called Vought. The show had been one of my guilty pleasures.
"I'm going there?" I asked, a mix of disbelief and excitement bubbling up inside me.
God nodded. "Exactly. But here's where it gets interesting. I'm not just sending you there without some... assistance. You're going to get a little something I like to call the *Marvel System*."
Now that piqued my interest. "Marvel... as in Marvel Comics?"
"Exactly," God said, snapping his fingers. With that motion, a glowing blue screen popped up in front of me. *System Booting...* it read, and under it, a line of text slowly typed out: *Marvel Superpowers unlocked through missions and reputation points.*
"You'll have the chance to earn superpowers from the Marvel Universe," God continued, walking around the screen as if he were unveiling the world's greatest invention. "Not all at once, of course. You'll need to work for them—complete missions, change the timeline of this new world, earn reputation points. It's not a free ride, but it's a hell of a lot better than where you were headed, trust me."
I stared at the screen. The idea was absurd. Marvel superpowers in *The Boys* universe? It sounded too good to be true. "What's the catch?" I asked, wary. "There's always a catch."
God chuckled. "Smart lad. The catch is simple: I need you to fix things. You know how messed up *The Boys* universe is. Homelander, the Seven, Vought... all of it. You're going to be part of changing that. Of course, you'll have to do it carefully. You won't be able to just punch your way to victory—at least, not yet."
I folded my arms—or the mental equivalent of it. "And if I say no?"
"Then you go back to being dead," God said simply, shrugging. "No pressure, though. Take your time."
I hesitated. Sure, the idea of powers from the Marvel Universe was insane, but this was *The Boys*. Homelander alone was a walking nightmare. Then again, what did I have to lose? Going back to my old life wasn't exactly an option.
"I'm in," I said, after a long pause. "Let's do it."
God clapped his hands again, the sound echoing like a thunderclap this time. "Wonderful! I knew you'd make the right choice." He waved his hand, and the glowing blue screen in front of me flickered.
*Initializing Newbie Bonus...*
A rush of energy shot through me, like a tidal wave crashing over my entire existence. It felt like every atom in my body—if I even had a body—was vibrating, expanding, evolving. The white space around me began to shift and bend. My senses overloaded as a flood of power poured into me.
"You're starting with the powers of Thor," God said, his voice carrying a faint echo now, as though he were receding into the distance. "Consider it a little head start."
I couldn't respond. I was too caught up in the sensation, my consciousness swirling in a vortex of lightning and thunder. It felt like I was being remade from the ground up, my very being infused with raw, god-like strength.
And then, just as suddenly as it had started, it stopped.
I gasped, drawing in a deep breath. For the first time since my death, I felt my body again. Real, solid flesh and bone. I was alive. But not the way I had been before.
---
I was lying in an alley, the sounds of the city echoing around me. A car honked in the distance, and the faint hum of electricity buzzed through the air. My heart raced as I sat up, blinking against the dim light filtering down from a nearby streetlamp. My body felt... different. Heavier, but not in a bad way. More solid. More powerful.
The *System* pinged in my head.
*Congratulations! You have received the Newbie Bonus: Thor's Powers. You are now able to control lightning, and possess god-like strength. The mission to terminate Homelander has been activated.*
Thor's powers. I almost laughed at the absurdity of it. Me, with the powers of the god of thunder? This had to be a dream. But I wasn't going to waste time second-guessing it. If this was real, I needed to see what I could do.
Wait a minute...
I frowned, my thoughts racing. "Wait a second. If I have the powers of Thor, where's Mjolnir? I mean, a god without his weapon seems a bit off, don't you think?"
A sound echoed in my mind, just like the system, but the voice was definitely of that God guy, "Oh, you don't need Mjolnir. It's just a prop, really. You can summon lightning, control storms, and have super strength on your own. Besides, that hammer is a little too much for a newbie like you."
"Too much?" I raised an eyebrow. "You're telling me I can summon the thunder and I can't wield the hammer? What gives?"
"Think of it as an incentive," God replied, a twinkle in his eye. "You need to earn it. Prove you can handle your powers without the safety net of Mjolnir first. Besides, you wouldn't want to be like those wannabe heroes who rely on their toys, would you? Wouldn't want to become a cliché."
I crossed my arms, pouting a little. "But what if I want the hammer? I mean, it's iconic! You're telling me I'm stuck with just... well, me?"
The system chimed in, its voice crisp and cheerful. *Mjolnir is reserved for those who have proven themselves worthy. You, however, have been granted the powers of Thor, without the need for his hammer. Consider it a test of your abilities!*
"See?" God probably had a satisfied grin spreading across his face. "The system is already making fun of you. It knows you're going to have to step up your game if you want the full package."
I let out a reluctant chuckle, even as I felt a twinge of frustration. "So, what am I supposed to do? Just walk around throwing lightning bolts at people? I mean, I'm down for that, but it feels like I'm missing a key element."
"You'll find your way," God replied, as if waving a hand dismissively. "But your first order of business is a mission. *Terminate Homelander.* Get acquainted with this world, and see just how twisted it can be. You'll need to make friends and gather information before you even think about taking him on."
"Right, right," I said, shaking my head to clear the fog of uncertainty.
I spotted a discarded knife on the ground, a rusty thing that probably belonged to some homeless guy. Hesitant at first, I picked it up, the weight of the blade suddenly feeling like nothing in my hand. I gripped it tight and, without thinking, pressed it against my palm.
There was a grinding sound. The metal crumpled like paper. My skin didn't even break. I looked down at my hand in awe. There was no cut, no blood—just a slight indentation where the blade had pressed.
I laughed. A wild, disbelieving laugh. The kind you give when you're not sure if you're insane or dreaming. I wasn't hurt. I wasn't even scratched. I squeezed the knife harder, and with barely any effort, it snapped in half.
"Well, this is going to be fun," I muttered to myself, tossing the broken pieces of metal aside.
*Mission Active: Terminate Homelander.*
The words flashed in front of my eyes like a neon sign, filling me with a sudden jolt of adrenaline. Homelander. The strongest being in this world. The leader of the Seven. He was my target, my goal. The ultimate test of whether I could survive in this brutal, twisted version of reality.
And with Thor's powers, how hard could it be?
I stood up, feeling more confident by the second. The power thrummed inside me, humming beneath my skin like an electric current. I was ready. I was more than ready. The people of this world wouldn't know what hit them.
But before I could act, the *System* pinged again, pulling my attention back.
*Main Mission Objective: Terminate Homelander.*
*Secondary Objective: Change the timeline of the Boys universe to earn reputation points and unlock additional powers.*
"Change the timeline, huh?" I muttered, rubbing the back of my neck. That sounded... complicated. Still, it wasn't anything I couldn't handle. Thor had the body of a god, after all. I could handle anything.
I grinned to myself, the arrogance growing with each passing second.
There was only one thing left to do: find Homelander, put him down, and get out of this insane world. It couldn't be that hard, right?
But as I stepped out of the alley and into the cold, bustling city streets, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was about to bite off more than I could chew.
I was taking in my surroundings. The alley was narrow, lined with grimy brick walls and flickering neon signs from nearby bars. I glanced down at my hands, flexing my fingers, feeling the latent power coursing through me. This was it. I was in the world of *The Boys.*
I checked the mission again..
*System update: Welcome to the Boys Universe. Your main mission is to terminate Homelander. Completing secondary objectives will earn you reputation points and unlock additional powers.*
"Alright, time to get to work," I murmured to myself, stepping cautiously out of the alley. The streets buzzed with life, the sounds of laughter, shouting, and the distant thump of music filling the air. I felt a surge of excitement and trepidation; the energy of this place was infectious, but I was acutely aware that danger lurked in every corner.
I wandered deeper into the city, my senses heightened, taking in the atmosphere. I passed a group of people gathered around a TV shop, their faces illuminated by the screen showing highlights of *The Seven*—the so-called heroes of this world. I could already see their twisted nature reflected in the snippets of news reports, their insatiable thirst for fame and admiration.
As I continued, I overheard snippets of conversations. Some praised Homelander as a god among men, while others whispered about the rumors of Vought's darker dealings. It didn't take long for me to feel the weight of the corruption seeping into every aspect of life here. Vought controlled everything, and I had to navigate through this minefield if I wanted to find Homelander.
*System Update: Mission Objective—Gather Information.*
The mission objective flashed in my mind. I needed intel. I needed to know how to find Homelander and how to take him down. But first, I needed to fit in. A couple of teenagers walked by, laughing and joking, and an idea struck me.
I followed them discreetly, blending into the throng of people. They eventually led me to a local bar called "The Battered Shield." The name struck me as ironic, given the state of affairs in this universe. I hesitated outside for a moment, then steeled myself and pushed the door open.
The dim lighting inside was filled with laughter and chatter. A band played a cover of some pop song in the corner, their voices mixing with the clinking of glasses and the low hum of conversation. The air was thick with the scent of cheap beer and fried food. I scanned the crowd, spotting a group of people huddled around a table, their expressions animated as they discussed something.
I approached them, confident in my newfound powers. As I walked up, I overheard snippets of their conversation—mentions of Homelander, rumors about him, and even a few stories about his 'heroic' deeds.
"Did you see what he did last week?" one guy exclaimed, his face alight with excitement. "He literally saved that plane and landed it in the middle of the street! Can you believe that?"
I leaned in closer, pretending to join the conversation. "Yeah, but what about all those people he hurt in the process?" I chimed in, raising an eyebrow.
The group fell silent for a moment, looking at me as if I'd just spoken in a foreign language. "Who are you?" one of them asked, eyeing me suspiciously.
"I'm new in town," I said casually, trying to sound nonchalant. "Just trying to catch up on the news. This place is wild."
A girl with a purple streak in her hair snorted. "Wild? You have no idea. Homelander is like a god, but he's also a total sociopath. It's like we're living in a twisted version of reality."
That caught my attention. "What do you mean?"
"Ever notice how every time he saves someone, it's in front of a camera? He loves the spotlight," she explained, rolling her eyes. "People love him, but the moment you step out of line, he won't think twice about putting you down. Vought makes sure everyone knows that."
I absorbed the information, mentally noting the dangerous aura that surrounded Homelander. This was more complicated than I had anticipated. But it also made me more determined to figure out how to bring him down.
As the conversation continued, I shared a few quips and laughed along with them, letting the atmosphere wash over me. I was just another face in the crowd, but beneath the surface, my mind raced with plans. I needed to gather more intel, and the first step was to get on the good side of these people. They could be my eyes and ears in this world.
After a while, the topic shifted, and I felt the opportunity slip away. I couldn't linger forever, and I needed to make my move soon. I decided to excuse myself and stepped outside, letting the cool night air wash over me.
*System Update: Reputation Points: 10 earned for engaging with locals.*
I smiled, feeling a surge of satisfaction at my small victory. Ten points may not seem like much, but it was a start. With every interaction, I could learn more about the dynamics of this world, the secrets lurking in the shadows.
As I walked down the street, my mind raced with possibilities. I needed to find a way to gather information on Homelander's whereabouts and weaknesses. Maybe a more targeted approach was in order—something that could get me closer to my ultimate goal.
Suddenly, my thoughts were interrupted by a commotion nearby. A crowd had gathered, and the sounds of shouting filled the air. I quickened my pace, curious about what was happening. As I approached, I saw a small group of protesters, signs in hand, rallying against Vought. They were angry, passionate, and shouting about the injustice that seemed to permeate every level of society.
The leader of the group stood at the forefront, voice booming, "We deserve better than this! We deserve heroes who protect us, not monsters who treat us like toys!"
I felt a surge of excitement. This was my chance. If I could tap into this discontent, maybe I could turn it into something more—a movement that could undermine Homelander and Vought's iron grip.
