Pataliputra, 310 BCE
The imperial city of Pataliputra pulsed with life, its streets thronging with merchants, scholars, and warriors. Kaushalya, summoned by Chandragupta Maurya, stood before the palace gates.
"A female warrior?" the guards questioned, their brows furrowed.
Kaushalya's gaze never wavered. "I am Kaushalya, warrior of Shravasti."
The guards parted, revealing the palace's opulent interior. Kaushalya's footsteps echoed through the corridors, her heart pounding with anticipation.
The Emperor's Chamber.
Chandragupta Maurya, the Mauryan Emperor, sat upon his throne, his piercing gaze assessing Kaushalya.
"Your skills are legendary, Kaushalya," he said, his voice low and measured. "I have a proposal for you."
Kaushalya's curiosity was piqued.
"I seek to expand my empire," Chandragupta continued. "Your expertise would be invaluable."
Kaushalya hesitated, weighing her options.
Courtiers and nobles surrounded Chandragupta, their faces masks of curiosity and suspicion.
"Your Majesty, is this wise?" a courtier asked, his voice laced with doubt.
Chandragupta's gaze never left Kaushalya.
"I will not be swayed by convention," he declared. "Kaushalya's skills will serve our empire."
Kaushalya's resolve strengthened.
"I accept your proposal, Your Majesty," she said, her voice firm.
A New Path Unfolds
As Kaushalya left the palace, the city's sounds swirled around her. She knew that her journey was far from over.
