### Chapter 14: The Last Act of Desperation
Rep walked into the police station, the handcuffs heavy on his wrists, his heart racing. He had given himself up, but not without a price. The tension in the air was palpable, and he felt like the place was about to explode. The officers, for the most part, looked at him with contempt and anger, and soon the beatings began.
"You're a monster, Rep!" one of the officers shouted, punching him in the stomach. "You deserve what you're getting!"
The beatings continued, and the physical pain was just a distant echo compared to the emotional pain Rep felt. He had chosen to give himself up to protect Lara, but now he was paying a price he hadn't anticipated. The sound of screams and punches surrounded him, and the feeling of desperation enveloped him.
But the situation quickly escalated. The people, already on high alert because of Rep's crimes, began to gather in front of the police station. Anger and desire for revenge were boiling over. Groups of people began to shout, demanding justice, and soon the station became a battlefield.
The officers, unable to control the situation, began to attack each other, while the crowd became increasingly hostile. The tension reached its peak when Rep, in a moment of desperation, saw an opportunity.
He stood up, even though his wounds were still throbbing, and grabbed a female journalist who was in the room, pulling her close to him. With a knife pressed to his throat, he glared at the officers and the crowd. "Don't even think about moving!" he shouted, his voice dark and full of anger. "If you risk it, I'll kill her right here and now!"
The crowd fell silent, and the officers hesitated, their weapons shaking in their hands. "It's me you want, not her. If you risk it, I'll kill this woman and more people before I die. Do you really want to risk that?"
Meanwhile, in a high corner of the scene, Lara was hiding in a tree, her heart pounding. She had a sniper rifle in her hands, and the scene before her was chaotic. The police chief, Mendes, was standing there, trying to control the situation, but his authority was being challenged at every turn.
With a determined look, Lara aimed at Mendes' head. She knew this was a critical situation. What else could she do? She couldn't let Rep die, and the only way to save her friend was to act. With a pull of the trigger, the shot echoed through the air.
The shot hit Mendes' head in an instant, and the scene turned into a frenzy of screams and panic. The police officers retreated, and the population began to run in all directions as chaos ensued.
Rep, sensing the opportunity created by the commotion, looked at the woman he was holding hostage. "Now, it's my turn to play," he said, his voice filled with determination. He was determined to make this last chance count.
"If you take the risk, I will not hesitate to kill this woman, and anyone else who is near!" Rep shouted, as the crowd and the police turned to him in alarm. "You're going to let me out! I'm the one you're looking for, not her!"
The tension was palpable, and Rep knew time was running out. He needed to act quickly before the situation became even more deadly. Adrenaline coursed through his veins, and for a brief moment, he felt in control again, even amidst the chaos he had created.
