Chapter 7 Into The Wilderness

With his iron pickaxe in hand, Elias stood at the inn's doorway, feeling the cool night air wash over him. "Time to see what I can do," he muttered, casting a wary glance around to ensure no one was watching. He summoned his shadow, which blended seamlessly with the darkness. "Stay close to me," he ordered, stepping into the forest that loomed ahead, the trees casting long shadows in the pale moonlight.

As he ventured deeper into the woods, the sound of rustling leaves and distant nocturnal creatures surrounded him. He focused intently on finding the herbs the merchant needed. After a short while, he spotted a vibrant patch of herbs illuminated by the moon's glow. Kneeling down, he began to gather them quickly, his movements practiced and efficient. The night felt alive around him, and he reveled in the solitude.

Just as he filled his satchel, he heard a rustling in the bushes nearby. Instinctively, he crouched low, gripping his pickaxe tightly. His heart raced as he waited, ready for anything. To his relief, a small rabbit bounded into view. "Just a rabbit," he whispered, a chuckle escaping his lips as he relaxed. Satisfied with his haul, he decided it was time to head back to the guild, feeling the weight of the herbs in his bag and the thrill of completing his first task.

The path back felt shorter, the thrill of accomplishment quickening his steps. As he emerged from the forest, the first hints of dawn began to illuminate the sky. He pushed open the heavy wooden door of the guild hall and was greeted by the lively chatter and laughter inside. Elias approached the receptionist, determined in his stride. "I've completed the task," he announced, presenting the gathered herbs.

"Let's see what you've gathered," she replied, inspecting the herbs with a keen eye. "Well done, Elias. You've proven yourself on your first task. Your reward is 5 silver coins." Pride swelled within him, and he accepted the pouch of coins, feeling a rush of superiority. "I did it solo," he added, a smirk playing on his lips. With a newfound sense of purpose, Elias left the guild hall, his mind racing with thoughts of necromancy and the secrets he must keep hidden, knowing this was just the beginning of his dark journey.
