"Think you can escape?" snarled Sennar, his voice sharp and grating.
With a malevolent grin, he swung his Soul Scythe toward Vanervi, the weapon defying space itself as it hurtled toward Vanervi's back.
"Get lost!" A massive knight's lance erupted with dazzling energy, intertwining black and white streaks that collided with the incoming scythe.
Swish!
The deadly weapon brushed past Vanervi's shoulder, leaving him drenched in cold sweat. If not for Omsk's timely intervention, Vanervi was certain he'd have been skewered.
Omsk, astride his Abyssal Warhorse, charged out of the forest like a thunderbolt. He rescued Vanervi and positioned himself between Sennar and his target, ready to face the wraith head-on.
"A hero?" Sennar sneered, momentarily surprised.
"A betrayer of faith," Omsk replied coldly, his knight's lance leveled steadily at Sennar.
Beneath his calm demeanor burned a fury only a knight could harbor against a Black Knight, a being who had forsaken the sacred code of knighthood and embraced corruption.
"Hah! A self-righteous fool. Do you truly believe in the sanctity of your ideals? Do you think your sacrifices have meaning?
How pitiful!" Sennar's words dripped with venomous sweetness, like honey laced with poison, attempting to worm their way into Omsk's resolve.
"Spare your breath. I am a Knight of Light and Shadow—your tricks won't work on me," Omsk interrupted, his tone unwavering.
He watched Sennar's theatrics like one would observe a clown.
"A Light and Shadow Knight…" Sennar's tone grew serious. This was no ordinary foe.
Light dispelled his malevolent aura, while Shadow neutralized his dark magic, leaving only physical and soul-based attacks effective against Omsk. It was a frustrating matchup.
"Vanervi, you can retreat now. This is my battlefield," Omsk declared. The spatial ring on his finger gleamed as he stowed his lance and drew his greatsword—Abyssal Redemption.
"Domain of Death!" Sennar snarled, unleashing his domain skill and charging forward on his nightmare steed, his scythe slicing arcs of death into the air.
"Parry!"
Omsk countered, his blade intercepting the scythe with precision. Parry was a legendary skill, allowing a warrior to perfectly block an attack up to twice their endurance limit. For Omsk, it bordered on making him invincible. The only drawback was its cooldown period.
"Praise of Light!"
Omsk roared, unleashing a golden aura that radiated outward in a kilometer-wide radius. The oppressive Domain of Death trembled and began to recede under the power of Omsk's skill.
"Dispel!"
With a flick of his wrist, Omsk cast a sphere of light that surged forward, causing Sennar's domain to falter further.
Sennar, now feeling the suffocating suppression Vanervi had experienced earlier, cursed his luck.
Unlike Vanervi, Sennar could barely retaliate against Omsk.
Light replenished Omsk's energy effortlessly under the bright day, making him stronger with each passing moment, while Sennar's power waned, his aura dimming and fading.
"Soul Reap!" Sennar shouted, sending a spectral scythe hurtling toward Omsk in desperation.
"Shadow Slip!" Omsk tugged on his reins, guiding his warhorse into the shadows, evading the attack entirely before disappearing into the darkness.
"Invisible?" Sennar muttered, frustration mounting. Omsk was already a difficult opponent; his ability to meld with shadows made him nearly impossible to counter.
A sense of retreat crept into Sennar's mind. While he held the upper hand against Vanervi, this peculiar knight with his dual powers was a complete counter to his abilities.
Worse, the wild elf king could still be lurking nearby, ready to strike from the shadows.
"Judgment!" Omsk leaped into the air, driving his sword into the ground with tremendous force.
A six-pointed star flashed in the sky before a massive, radiant knight's blade descended toward Sennar.
Boom!
Sennar raised his deathly shield, infused with dark energy, to block the falling blade. The ground beneath him collapsed under the sheer force, leaving a deep crater.
"Too bad it wasn't a Holy Sword of Judgment," Omsk said with regret, watching Sennar's battered form.
If a holy hero had been present, even one strike from the Holy Sword could've left the wraith severely wounded.
"Until next time! Luck seems to favor you today!" Sennar sneered, his nightmare steed spreading its wings and soaring skyward, narrowly avoiding Omsk's follow-up strike.
Though clearly at a disadvantage, Sennar refused to admit defeat, his voice ringing out defiantly.
"You will all be consumed by the darkness! Death is inevitable! Wail, despair, and see how even death is a luxury!"
As his form grew translucent and faded into the air, Sennar's laughter echoed ominously.
Omsk sighed, shaking his head as he dispersed the nearby orcs with a few swings of his sword.
With a frown, he mounted his steed and rode in the direction Rynar had gone. While he hadn't managed to vanquish the wraith, he'd successfully cleared a path to Singrey.
If Rynar acted quickly, they could lead reinforcements to aid the Star Elves.
"What's the plan, Rynar? Do we enter Singrey or continue holding the orcs at bay here?" Vanervi asked upon rejoining the group.
"Where's Omsk? How is he not back yet?" Rynar exclaimed, alarmed. As a vital sixth-tier combatant, Omsk was a linchpin of their strategy.
The idea of losing him was unthinkable. However, Vanervi and the knights' reports reassured him. The Knight of Light and Shadow wouldn't fall so easily, especially not to a wraith.
"Your Majesty! Mission accomplished," Omsk announced upon his return. "While the wraith escaped, we've opened a path to Singrey."
"Which wraith was it?" Rynar asked, curious.
"Sennar," Omsk replied grimly. Despite his dominance in battle, Sennar's Domain of Death had left even Omsk feeling drained.
"The Walking Catastrophe, Breath of Death—Sennar!" Rynar was stunned. "Wasn't he supposed to be stuck in Mordor? How is he out here?"
