Chapter 66 - Chapter 66: Rain of Arrows

"Here to serve you, my lord." Radir entered and bowed deeply, his eyes filled with respect.

With the loyalty of the other nobles, Rynar now exuded a stronger charisma as a leader, evident from the increasingly respectful expressions on everyone's faces.

Rynar had embarked on the true path of a lord; in the future, he would wield a shield to protect his people and a longsword to expand his territory.

"I need you to construct a Temple of Archers!" Rynar said gently, waving his hand to reveal a life-sized statue representing the legacy of archers before Radir.

"Hmm? Is this the statue of the Archer's Legacy?" Radir exclaimed with delight, his eyes shining at the sight. A legacy skill signified immense combat power.

"Indeed, I stumbled upon it by chance," Rynar smiled.

"If I may be so bold, my lord, what is the legacy skill contained within?" Radir adjusted his grip on his staff, studying the stone statue intently.

"Oh, it's Multi-Arrows and Wild Shot," Rynar replied casually.

"Not bad! Multi-Arrows is a divine skill for archers! Now our Battanian archers will have a place to unleash their battle spirit," Radir said, stroking his beard joyfully.

"Yes, with this, a single Battanian archer can stand against three!" Rynar nodded, a satisfied expression on his face.

"Therefore, I need you to move quickly; after all, the orcs won't give us much time," Rynar said earnestly, looking at Radir.

"You're right, my lord, but I will need sufficient manpower. You wouldn't want this old back of mine to haul those heavy stones, would you?" Radir winked playfully.

"Of course, all the guards of Zaltarion are at your command," Rynar chuckled, pulling out a piece of parchment from the table, dipping his quill in ink, and writing a command.

"Radir, you can take this to gather the workforce," Rynar blew on the still-wet ink, allowing it to soak in before handing the order to Radir.

"My lord, you're becoming more like a true king," Radir said with a smile as he turned to leave.

"Hmm? Really?" Rynar muttered, looking down thoughtfully. Unbeknownst to him, he had grown considerably.

Having navigated the initial confusion of arriving, the hesitance before battle, and the establishment of the city, he had begun to possess the demeanor of a ruler.

His actions were gradually following a proper protocol. A month ago, he would have simply waved his hand, telling Radir to find the Zaltarion guards himself.

What pleased Radir was that Rynar had finally learned to control his military power.

In this tumultuous Middle-earth, having formidable strength and a robust army was fundamental; a qualified lord must first secure his troops.

Though the citizens of Zaltarion summoned by the system were very loyal to Rynar, they were not mere data; they were living, breathing beings with souls, and there was always the potential for betrayal.

For instance, Reynard's disobedience to Rynar's retreat order and his subsequent attack, though motivated by a knightly spirit, would be utterly intolerable for a true leader.

It was perhaps because Rynar hailed from a modern world where equality was valued that he didn't mind such incidents.

Disregarding orders was something no ruler could tolerate, especially when Reynard led all his soldiers in defiance of Rynar's command.

It was nearly tantamount to betrayal. In fact, upon arriving in Middle-earth, Rynar's initial control over the Zaltarion soldiers was weak, as evidenced by Reynard's ability to sway the entire troop.

However, after enduring numerous trials, Rynar had begun to exhibit the majesty of a ruler.

His mindset had gradually shifted; he was now learning to become a competent leader.

"Winter is upon us… how far can the orcs be?" Rynar donned his cloak and stepped out of the tent, the biting cold sending a shiver through him, chilling his heart as well.

"Whoosh~" His breath released like a vaporous ribbon, dissipating before him as he made his way up to the castle ramparts.

"My lord!" A heavily armored Dunwenian swordsman stood resolutely at the steps leading to the castle walls, his armor dusted with snow.

Despite the sparse number of people in the city, he dutifully guarded the stairs to the wall.

"Thank you for your hard work. After your shift, go enjoy some hot soup to warm yourself," Rynar nodded.

Though he was not well-versed in military matters and lacked sophisticated strategies or tactics, he understood that a strict lord could not allow his soldiers to drink while on duty.

Humans were not like dwarves; while they didn't have strong spirits to warm them, a steaming bowl of meat soup was more than sufficient.

"Thank you for your concern, my lord," the Dunwenian swordsman replied gratefully.

"I'll walk around myself; no need to follow me," Rynar said, stopping the swordsman from accompanying him.

What a joke! If he couldn't ensure safety in his own city, he might as well end his own life with his sword! If any internal issues arose, Rynar would have no choice but to accept it!

"My lord!" A patrol of ten Battanian archers happened to pass by Rynar.

Rynar scrutinized these uniquely armored archers and found himself thoroughly pleased!

These Battanian archers not only excelled in archery but also functioned as heavy infantry, requiring significantly less from the front-line soldiers compared to other archers and rangers.

"Too bad… I've accumulated only 100 of them; no matter how I recruit, I just can't seem to get more," Rynar lamented.

The Battanian archers could be considered the first and only organized ranged unit under his command.

"Soon we will have the Temple of Archers; I hope you can all learn Multi-Arrows and Wild Shot before the war starts," Rynar encouraged.

"Thank you for your generosity, my lord!" The Battanian archers knelt on one knee.

After all, legacy skills weren't something ordinary professionals could access, let alone Multi-Arrows, which could fundamentally change an archer's combat capabilities.

"Ha ha ha, I hope to see your torrential rain of arrows drown those damned orcs in the upcoming war!" Rynar cheered.

After all, archers with Multi-Arrows were practically a different profession from ordinary archers!

With Multi-Arrows, one arrow transformed into three, without exhausting the archer's physical strength or capacity. Not every archer had access to spatial quivers, and Wild Shot further enhanced the archer's sustainability and coverage.

This was not merely a case of 1+1=2; they would become much more intimidating and capable of area attacks.

As long as their battle spirit and stamina held out, a small unit could withstand waves of orcs, elevating them from support roles to becoming the most fearsome killing machines on the battlefield!

"Hehe~" A strange smile crept across Rynar's face; he was increasingly looking forward to that torrential rain of arrows.
