Chapter 88 - Chapter 88: First Sixth-Rank Profession

"Slurp, slurp!"

Rynar was counting his gains, feeling as joyful as someone drinking cool water on a scorching summer day.

"500 Battanian Archers? Is this how I start farming and defending my home?" Rynar pondered.

After all, archers are primarily defensive units, and their thin armor often leaves them with a passive approach to offense.

Even heavily armored Battanian Archers were no exception.

The battlefield for archers mainly lies on walls and fortresses, while knights and Rapid Infantry are purely offensive units, thriving best on open plains.

No one would ask knights to give up their charge to stand stationary, nor would anyone expect Rapid Infantry to form a solid defense, right?

"Not bad, at least I've supplemented my desperately needed ranged professionals…" Rynar thought, feeling more optimistic.

"1000 civilians is great; the population base can finally increase." Rynar's gaze shifted to the population rewards.

"Dragon-slaying Rangers, 30 of them! Nice, nice!" Rynar was very satisfied. Elaris Woods Rangers are strategically intimidating in small wars.

Even a 10-member squad is enough to give enemies a headache.

It seems like now he has options to annoy his foes, especially since Elaris Woods Rangers have incredibly long ranges!

How could rangers capable of sniping dragons possibly have short attack distances?

"Thank goodness! System, you finally provided food… I can finally stop living off borrowed rations…"

Rynar thought about how his faction couldn't even manage basic logistics and felt tears welling up.

"Wait a minute! With one person consuming a pound of flour per day, I can only last a month at most…" After calculating, Rynar realized this amount of food only resolved his immediate crisis.

"Forget it, let's see what else is coming…"

"50 oxen? Great stuff!" Rynar immediately designated them as useful, thinking that in the coming spring, the grain supply for the Zaltarion Empire would depend on them.

"Chicken Farm: Covers 10 acres, can raise over ten thousand quality chickens, can raise magical beast chickens!"

Rynar's eyes darkened when he looked at the chicken farm… What the heck is this? Cows and chickens all mixed together…

"Magical Plantation: Covers 5 acres, can cultivate various magical herbs!"

"This one's pretty strong! You have to know that the difference between someone who has taken a magical potion and someone who hasn't is like night and day; being able to cultivate magic potions is really a good thing!"

Rynar licked his lips, already fantasizing about a life where he drinks potions like water, punching dragons and trampling chimeras.

"Another 10 Elaris Woods Rangers? That makes a full 50-member team! If I had Elaris Woods Rangers in the next battle… sigh, casualties would be at least halved!"

Rynar sighed. Besides their iconic ability, Dragon-Slaying Arrow, Elaris Woods Rangers also have a special title called "Madness for Three Seconds."

With a series of skills backing them, an Elaris Woods Ranger can empty a quiver of 30 arrows in just three seconds and deliver them accurately to your vital spots!

They are simply the best choice for striking at enemy vanguards or blocking cavalry charges!

"Priests from the Dragon God Sanctuary? Those saints?" Rynar's head began to hurt. Are the priests from the Dragon God Sanctuary powerful?

Yes! Are they strong? Absolutely! But are they useful? Not at all!

These folks are complete pacifists; they can handle a few orcs, but if it comes to a war with humans or within the allied races… don't expect them to show any performance on the battlefield.

They won't attack, at most just providing a buff to their own people.

Forget it, it's okay. Keeping them around to heal and save lives is still in their wheelhouse; that's basically the Dragon God Sanctuary priests' main job.

Not to mention their healing abilities are top-notch!

Generally, only a fifth-rank high priest would have the potential to master the incredible resurrection magic, but quite a few third-rank sanctuary priests in the Dragon God Sanctuary can also use resurrection spells…

So in the past, lords often recruited a temple priest who could resurrect to bring them back in battles.

The limitations of resurrection spells are pretty significant.

Aivy under Rynar can use resurrection spells, but the deceased can't have been dead for more than 72 hours, and casting the spell would leave her weakened for nearly ten years.

Rynar reserved this precious spell slot for himself, so in case he died, Aivy could bring him back once.

"The Ring of Mercy?" After glancing at the green ring, Rynar slipped it onto his finger and chose to bind it.

As the second ring of the ninth-rank knights, it would amplify the knight's skill of mercy! (Its capabilities were introduced in previous chapters.)

"Surprisingly, the last one is an achievement reward? How long has it been since this stingy system produced something like this?" Rynar exclaimed in surprise.

"What the heck! A Sage… this is—sixth rank!" Rynar's eyes widened instantly. What's happening here?

They actually provided a sixth-rank profession? Although it's just a support profession, this is a genuine sixth-rank professional!

With a Sage, Rynar's magical plantation could finally commence operations.

Every Alchemist is a qualified magical plant manager, and Sages are the most elite among them. As long as materials are sufficient, they can almost concoct any potion!

"System, check the status of the territory, Riverguard!" Rynar wanted to see how his development was going.

Riverguard:

- Area: One square kilometer.

- Buildings: A dilapidated lord's castle1, 70 shaky houses, 30 flimsy houses, intermediate magic-patterned city walls, stone wells, blacksmith shops, military camps, and an Archer's Sanctuary.

Leaders: Caslow (third rank), Reynard (fourth rank), Radir (fourth rank), Unknown (sixth rank)

Special Personnel: Aivy (third rank)

City Defense Officer: Marcus (fourth rank)

Administrative Officer: Lance (second rank)

Troops: 2033 people

Order of Dawn Knights: 100 second-rank knights.

Zaltarion City Guards: 100 second-rank warriors.

Battanian Archers: 700 second-rank archers.

Dunwenian Swordsmen: 100 second-rank swordsmen.

Elaris Woods Rangers: 50 second-rank rangers.

Rapid Infantry: 683 Rapid Infantry.

Recruit Light Infantry: 200 light infantry.

Zaltarion Heavy Cavalry: 100 heavy cavalry.

Priests: 5 (rank unknown)

Population: 2102 (trainable civilians: 753)

Evaluation: The lonely king leads the remaining people back to their homeland, establishing a city with tall walls. The city's inhabitants are few, but everything is developing in a positive direction.

The city's military strength is robust, able to defend it, but it still cannot stand alone against the emerging darkness. The good news is that the city has finally welcomed its own City Defense Officer and Administrative Officer.

Note: The war has ended! The broken kingdom needs to recuperate!

Abilities:

As the only territory of the Zaltarion Kingdom in Middle-earth, it will attract Zaltarion's exiles. The system will guide a wave of wandering Zaltarion civilians daily, hoping the lord can properly settle them. Allows the recruitment of local civilians to train Rapid Infantry.

"Indeed! The Rapid Infantry suffered heavy casualties!" Rynar felt his heart bleeding, at least nearly 300 Rapid Infantry sacrificed in this war.
