Chapter 46 - Despair Will Win

The battlefield buzzed with chaos, the clash of steel and the cries of combatants blending into a deafening cacophony. Yuto's heart raced as he and Takeshi pushed forward against the Voidspawn leader, their combined forces generating a surge of hope amidst the growing darkness. Every muscle in Yuto's body strained with exertion as he channeled his energy into the fight, determined to protect his friend at all costs.

"Takeshi, stay close!" Yuto shouted, barely managing to keep his voice steady. "We need to stick together if we're going to take him down!"

"Right!" Takeshi responded, his expression grim but focused. "Let's end this now!"

They advanced, their movements synchronized like dancers in a deadly ballet, each strike aimed to weaken the Voidspawn leader. But Yuto felt an unsettling presence creeping around them, a chill that slithered down his spine.

Suddenly, the Voidspawn leader laughed, a low, mocking sound that echoed through the air. "Foolish little Soulbound," he taunted, his voice laced with malice. "You think you can defeat me with mere determination?"

"Shut up!" Yuto shouted, anger surging through him. "We're not backing down!"

With a sudden movement, the Voidspawn leader vanished from sight, a blur of darkness and malice. Yuto's instincts kicked in; he turned sharply, scanning the area for any sign of the enemy. But before he could react, a chilling shout reached his ears.

"Takeshi! Watch out!"

Yuto's heart dropped as he turned to see the Voidspawn leader reappearing behind Takeshi, a wicked grin spreading across his face. The leader's hand glinted with dark energy, a dagger-like weapon poised to strike.

"Takeshi!" Yuto screamed, desperation and fear flooding his voice.

The world slowed to a crawl as Yuto saw the Voidspawn leader's arm slice through the air. He could only watch in horror as the blade found its mark, plunging deep into Takeshi's throat.

"No!" Yuto's voice cracked, a raw scream of anguish escaping his lips. The sight of Takeshi's body jerking forward, the shock written across his face, sent a jolt of despair through Yuto's core.

Takeshi stumbled back, hands clutching his throat, blood spilling between his fingers. "Yuto… I—"

"Stay with me! Please!" Yuto shouted, rushing forward, his heart pounding in his chest. He couldn't let it end like this. Not now.

The Voidspawn leader stepped back, a smug look on his face as he watched Takeshi's struggle. "Such a pity. I thought he might last longer," he sneered. "But in the end, he was just another weakling, easily discarded."

"No!" Yuto felt rage boil within him, igniting a fire that pushed the Abyss to the back of his mind. "You're going to pay for this!"

With a roar, he charged at the Voidspawn leader, channeling all his energy into one powerful strike. He wouldn't let Takeshi fall, not like this. He couldn't.

"Yuto, wait!" Takeshi's voice was weak, but the urgency was unmistakable. "You have to—"

But Yuto was already moving, determined to strike back against the darkness. The world around him blurred as he unleashed a torrent of energy, his hands crackling with dark flames. He swung at the Voidspawn leader, the force of his attack creating a shockwave that resonated throughout the battlefield.

"Your rage will only blind you!" the Voidspawn leader shouted, quickly dodging to the side. "You think you can defeat me with emotions? How pathetic!"

Yuto gritted his teeth, refusing to give in. "I'll show you what I can do!"

He lunged forward again, fueled by his desperation. The Abyss pulsed within him, begging for release, but he fought against it, refusing to let the darkness take control. He could feel Takeshi's presence behind him, the weight of his friend's life hanging in the balance.

"Yuto!" Takeshi gasped, his voice a mere whisper. "Don't—"

But Yuto couldn't listen. He was in too deep, consumed by the need to protect his friend. "I won't let you win!" he shouted defiantly, sending another wave of energy surging toward the leader.

The Voidspawn leader smirked, his eyes narrowing as he sidestepped Yuto's attack with ease. "You're so naive, Soulbound. You think you can save him? You're already too late!"

As the words hit Yuto like a physical blow, he felt a wave of despair crash over him. He glanced back at Takeshi, whose face was pale, eyes filled with pain and fear.

"Yuto…" Takeshi breathed, each word a struggle. "You… you need to focus. Don't let him get to you…"

Yuto shook his head, forcing the darkness away. "I can't— I won't give up on you!"

The Voidspawn leader's laughter filled the air. "How touching," he mocked, the derision in his voice slicing through Yuto's resolve. "But your emotions mean nothing here."

Yuto clenched his fists, feeling the Abyss begin to rise within him again. The struggle was becoming unbearable, and the voice of the Abyss whispered seductively in his ear, urging him to embrace the power.

Let me out, Yuto. You can't save him without me. You know you need me.

"No!" Yuto shouted, shaking his head violently. "I won't give in! I refuse!"

The Voidspawn leader's eyes lit up with amusement. "Ah, but it's not really up to you, is it? You're just a vessel for the darkness. Eventually, you'll succumb."

"Not today!" Yuto yelled, launching himself at the leader once more. This time, he concentrated hard, aiming for a decisive blow that would turn the tide of battle.

The leader moved to intercept him, but this time, Yuto anticipated the movement, shifting mid-strike to strike the leader's side instead. The impact was jarring, sending shockwaves through both their bodies.

"You think you're clever?" the leader snarled, gritting his teeth as he staggered slightly. "You'll regret this!"

"Yuto! Behind you!" Takeshi shouted, his voice strained.

Yuto whipped around just in time to see another Voidspawn lunging at him, its claws outstretched. In a split second, he dodged, rolling to the side as the creature barreled past him. But the moment of distraction had given the Voidspawn leader time to recover.

With a swift motion, he grabbed Yuto by the collar, lifting him off the ground. "You really think you can challenge me?" the leader growled, his voice low and dangerous. "You're nothing!"

Yuto struggled against the grip, panic rising in his chest. "I'm not finished yet!"

Drawing upon the last reserves of his energy, he unleashed a surge of power, the dark flames igniting around him as he kicked out with all his might. The leader stumbled back, shock crossing his face as Yuto broke free.

"Get away from him!" Yuto shouted, his voice echoing across the battlefield. He could feel the Abyss bubbling to the surface, and despite his fear, he didn't hold back. "I'll end this!"

He charged at the Voidspawn leader again, focusing all his energy on one final attack. The flames wrapped around his fists, crackling with raw power. "This is for Takeshi!"

With a deafening roar, Yuto released the attack, a massive wave of dark energy crashing toward the leader. It surged through the air, a force of nature that shook the very ground beneath them.

But as the wave approached, the Voidspawn leader raised his hand, summoning a barrier of dark energy to deflect the blow. The collision erupted in a brilliant flash of light, sending shockwaves through the battlefield and casting shadows in all directions.

"Is that all you have?" the leader taunted, his smirk returning. "You're only proving my point!"

Yuto gritted his teeth, determination flooding his veins. "No… this isn't over yet!"

As the smoke began to clear, he saw Takeshi struggling to rise, blood still pooling on the ground beneath him. "Yuto," he croaked, his voice a mere whisper. "You have to end this. For me… for everyone."

Yuto's heart ached at the sight of his friend in pain. "I will!" he promised, the flames around him flickering with intensity. "I swear it!"

The Voidspawn leader laughed, a cruel sound that cut through the air. "You think you can win? You're merely a child playing with fire!"

Fueled by desperation and anger, Yuto stepped forward, ready to unleash everything he had left. "I'm no child!" he shouted. "I'm going to end this!"

With that declaration ringing in his ears, Yuto focused every ounce of his power into one final, monumental attack. As darkness and light collided in an explosive display of strength, he felt the Abyss within him resonate, merging with his will in a way he had never experienced before.

This was the moment where everything would change. He would either rise or fall, and he was determined to do everything in his power to protect his friend and defeat the encroaching darkness.

The battle raged on, and Yuto knew that whatever the outcome, he wouldn't let despair win.
