Chapter 34 - Factions Rising

### Chapter 11: Factions Rising

The tension in the air was palpable as Yuto limped down the deserted streets of Zenith City, supported by Takeshi. His leg was bandaged, but the pain was constant. It was a reminder of his defeat, a bitter mark left by the Voidspawn. He tried to focus on his steps, but his mind kept wandering back to the chaos that had unfolded in the battle. They had barely survived, and now, something much worse was brewing.

Takeshi, walking silently beside him, finally broke the uneasy quiet. "You know things won't be the same after what happened, right?"

Yuto looked at him, his eyes filled with a mixture of exhaustion and determination. "Yeah… I know. But we can't just sit back and do nothing. The Voidspawn are getting stronger, and if we don't step up, they'll tear this city apart."

Takeshi nodded but remained grim. "It's not just the Voidspawn we need to worry about anymore. The factions are already moving. The Crimson Order's been seen gathering their forces. Rumor has it they're preparing for something big."

Yuto gritted his teeth. The Crimson Order had always been ruthless in their methods, favoring brute force to deal with the Voidspawn. They didn't care about the collateral damage or the cost to the people of Zenith. If they gained control of the city, things would only get worse.

"What about the Silver Lotus Clan?" Yuto asked, hoping for some kind of balance.

"Still quiet, but that's what worries me," Takeshi replied. "Hana Igarashi doesn't make moves unless she's sure of them. If she's keeping her warriors out of sight, it means she's planning something. Probably waiting for the right moment to strike."

Yuto sighed, the weight of everything pressing down on him. He wasn't just dealing with the threat of the Abyss inside him anymore—he was caught in the middle of a growing conflict that could tear the city apart.

As they turned a corner, a figure emerged from the shadows, stepping directly into their path. It was a young woman, her silver hair catching the dim light of the streetlamps. Her presence was calm, but there was an underlying intensity in her gaze.

"Takeshi. Yuto," she greeted them with a nod. "I've been looking for you."

Yuto tensed, recognizing her immediately. "Rika… What do you want?"

Rika crossed her arms, studying them both. "I want to help. The city's about to explode, and you're both at the center of it. The Abyss, the factions, everything is spiraling out of control. But we don't have to fight each other."

Yuto scoffed, his frustration bubbling to the surface. "You want to help? Last time I checked, you were part of the problem. What makes you think we can trust you?"

Rika didn't flinch at the accusation, her voice steady. "I'm not asking you to trust me. I'm asking you to think. The Crimson Order is going to come for you, Yuto. They see you as a threat because of the Abyss. And the Silver Lotus Clan isn't far behind. They might be more diplomatic, but if they think you're dangerous, they won't hesitate to take action."

"Why do you care?" Takeshi asked, his eyes narrowing with suspicion.

"Because the real enemy isn't the factions or the Soulbound. It's the Voidspawn. And if we keep fighting each other, we'll be too weak to stop them when they come in full force." Rika stepped closer, her eyes locking onto Yuto's. "You have power, Yuto. The kind of power that could change everything. But only if you learn how to control it."

Yuto clenched his fists, the familiar pull of the Abyss stirring inside him. "And what if I can't? What if the Abyss takes over?"

"Then you'll be just like the Crimson Order fears you'll become—a monster," Rika said bluntly. "But I don't think that's going to happen. Not if you have the right people by your side."

Takeshi frowned. "You want us to trust you, but what's in it for you?"

Rika hesitated, glancing away for a moment before answering. "I've seen what the Abyss can do. I know its power. If Yuto falls, this city falls with him. I'm not doing this out of the kindness of my heart. I'm doing it because if we don't stop what's coming, none of us will survive."

Yuto's mind raced. He hated the idea of relying on someone like Rika, someone whose motives were always clouded in secrecy. But she wasn't wrong. The factions were closing in, and the Voidspawn were becoming more dangerous by the day. He didn't have time to fight a war on multiple fronts.

"Fine," Yuto said finally, his voice low but firm. "We'll hear you out. But if you try anything, if you so much as think about betraying us—"

"You'll kill me," Rika finished for him, a faint smirk on her lips. "Understood."

Takeshi shook his head, muttering under his breath. "This is a terrible idea."

"Got a better one?" Yuto asked, raising an eyebrow.

Takeshi sighed, conceding. "No, but that doesn't make this any less crazy."

Before they could say anything more, a distant explosion rocked the city. The ground trembled beneath their feet, and Yuto instinctively reached for his sword, his senses on high alert.

"What the hell was that?" Takeshi exclaimed, his eyes darting toward the source of the explosion.

"Looks like the Crimson Order's already making their move," Rika said, her expression darkening. "They're not waiting for diplomacy."

Yuto felt his heart pound in his chest as he stared toward the rising smoke in the distance. The time for talk was over. War was coming to Zenith City, whether they were ready for it or not.

The smoke from the explosion filled the air as Yuto, Takeshi, and Rika arrived at the scene. The street was in ruins, buildings reduced to rubble, and the faint cries of the wounded echoed around them. Soulbound warriors from the Crimson Order were already clashing with another group of fighters in the distance—members of the Silver Lotus Clan.

"It's started," Rika said quietly, watching the chaos unfold.

Yuto's hands tightened on his sword. "We need to stop this before it gets worse."

Rika glanced at him. "It's not that simple. Once the factions start fighting, they won't stop until one side is wiped out. The Crimson Order won't rest until they've secured control of the city."

"And what about the Voidspawn?" Yuto asked. "They're still out there, getting stronger by the day. If we waste our time fighting each other, they'll tear us apart."

"That's exactly what I'm trying to prevent," Rika replied, her voice calm but insistent. "We need to unify the Soulbound, or we won't stand a chance when the real fight begins."

Takeshi growled in frustration. "How the hell are we supposed to unify anyone when they're all trying to kill each other?"

"By showing them there's a bigger threat," Rika said. "If we can prove the Voidspawn are the real enemy, maybe—just maybe—we can convince them to stop fighting each other."

Yuto glanced at the clashing warriors, their weapons ringing out in the chaos. He knew Rika was right, but it didn't make the situation any less daunting. The Crimson Order was too far gone in their thirst for power, and the Silver Lotus Clan wasn't known for backing down.

"I'll try," Yuto said, taking a deep breath. "But I'm not sure they'll listen."

Takeshi put a hand on Yuto's shoulder, his grip firm. "We'll make them listen. One way or another."

Yuto nodded, his resolve hardening. He had to stop this before it was too late. The Abyss stirred within him, and for once, he didn't resist it. If he was going to bring peace to Zenith City, he would need every ounce of strength he had—even the darkness inside him.

"Let's end this," he said, stepping forward into the fray.
