Alec and the Avens were devising a plan to rescue Riane. "I'll call my men. They are highly trained, they are molded into the finest. We will rescue Riane after the storm. It will be easier at that." Gregory said as he pulled out his phone and mmade a call. Each and everyone of them prepared and made decisions as to and on how to reach Philippines at the fastest time.
Riane, on the other hand. "Lalabas muna ako. Huwag kang magpapasok. Bantayan mo ang bahay. (I will go out. Don't let anyone inside. Guard the house.) Riane said as he put on a hazmat suit, he also brought out a gun. He put some useful things in his bag. Lito was confused. "Saan ka ba pupunta? (Where are you going?)" Lito asked. "I am going somewhere to get some more information." Riane replied. Riane then opened the door and he left after Lito completely locked the door. He slowly walked towards the facility. As he go nearer, his senses go haywire. He felt something dangerous lurking. As he arrived at the facility, silence greeted him. He went inside and explored every room and floor he can find. He then entered the top floor. There was a single door that led to a spacious office. He then ransacked every drawer he could find. He put all the documents and papers inside a plastic bag then put it in his bag. As he decided to leave, he saw something red hidden behind a cabinet. After pulling it out, it was a file. After quickly surveying the perimeter, he ran outside only to be met by five mutated dogs. They growled at him ready to pounce any time. Riane then ran to the opposite side and readied his gun. The dogs then chased him. After seeing that the dogs are far enough, Riane knelt on the ground and aimed at the first dog. With a split second he pulled the trigger. The dog dropped on the floor with a bullet between its eyes. Then another dropped after the first one dropped, with less than a second they all dropped. However a few minutes later, the dogs woke up again and charged towards Riane. With the stormy night as an obstacle Riane treaded to collapsed buildings. He then went inside a small building away from others. He brought out a bottle of kerosene from his bag and poured it on the floor. As the dogs stepped on the kerosene, Riane ignited a match and dropped it. He watched as the dogs burn. Demonic screams can be heard through the burning dogs. The smell of a rotting flesh roamed the room, Riane felt tingling sensations throughout his face. "It seems that they are radioactive as well. It's pretty dangerous." Riane thought as he watched the dogs turned to ashes. He slowly walked towards his house.
Lito was waiting for the whole night. He can't sleep worrying about Riane's safety. During his boredom, he read every document pasted on the wall. He had learned about the cause of the dog's mutation, the dark side of the government, about the Record of Devadiña, and about the calamity that has yet to come. He shivered as he read every word. As he was ready to go out and find Riane. He saw Riane limping towards the secret door. He quickly opened the door. "Anong nangyare? (What happened?) Lito asked. "I sprained my foot when running away from the dogs." Riane explained. Riane then removed the hazmat suit, he also removed the contents of the bag and he put everything he used that was exposed outside in a small basket. He then burned it outside the house. He returned and started to sort the documents.
As he go through every document, reading every detail of the inhumane experiments. The experiments are done on both human and animals. They kidnapped homeless or bribed the poor people. They used the humans as experiments for newly developed disease, drugs, or a new bioweapon. They even made humans take animal genes to make hybrids, all of them died not long after. They were all marked as a failure. The only success was an experiment 30 years ago, there were no details or pictures, it only described as the C-project. He then went to the experiments of animals. The first thing he saw was the mutated dogs, it gives every detail, it can't be killed by a bullet, they only die when burned, while being burned they produce weak radiation, however, if there are many of them burning all at once, the radiation can be fatal. He also saw cats that were given dark substance that make them feral, it was a failure. The one that scares him the most was the mosquitos, they genetically engineered it to carry a parasite, when it comes to a human contact the parasite will then drill into the human skin. It travels through the veins. It slowly eats away the veins and replace it with its own body. It will grown until it eats the brain. This will last for three days and the human host will feel unbearable pain, until the person dies. If the host dies the parasite will then slowly control the body. The only way to find out that someone has the parasite is being dead. As the parasite controls the body the excess of the parasite will protrude or penetrate out of the skin. Riane reading the document shivered. He then closed the final document and focused on the red file.
Once he opened the file, he saw names. Names of those who were directly connected to the facility. As well as the organisations and even the government. The names were rich people, foreigners that are rich, and other elites. His heart stopped when he saw a name written on the record of 30 years ago. He read it over and over again, trying to comprehend what was written on it.
After reading the name for the 10th time, his mind blanked. Riane went back to normal after Lito alerted him. Lito reported that he saw a person. Lito explained that it seems the person moves a bit mechanical, his eyes were completely white, and the person seems to move in an aimless patttern. Riane felt chills ran down his spine. "That is a parasite, it eats away the person and controls the body. As you can see there are small worm like things wriggling on his neck, hands, and body. The only way to kill them is salt water. It seems that the facility wants to kill most of the people. They made sure that the countermeasures are easy to access. In the future be careful when meeting people. If you see a person check their veins if they're black, if it is, then they are infected already. Also always wear hazmat suits or clothes that does not expose all the skin or the body. Even a small hole can be dangerous." Riane explained. Lito nodded and he decided that he will not go out unless it is an emergency. They watched the infected person. The person also has a companion, Riane and Lito saw how the man put his hand on his companion, then the companion starts to scream in horror. His eyes, ears, nose and mouth started bleeding. Then the squirming victim stood still. His eyes turned to white and black small tentacles wriggle out the body. As Riane and Lito observe, Riane wrote all observations. The two then went back and started eating. They were already numbed through the horrors outside. "It seems that the storm starts to weaken. It's the last week." Riane said. After the dinner, he went to the monitors and observe the surroundings after finding nothing wrong, he went to the bed.
The morning came and the two infected were still in the house. Riane got a bucket and filled it with water. He added a lot of salt in the water. He then wore a new hazmat suit and went out with the bucket. The two infected smelled the scent of fresh flesh. They quickly got close to Riane. He then poured the bucket of water towards them. The moment the salted water touch the infected body, they started to melt rapidly. Their skin started to drop piece by piece like a burning plastic. Their blood and veins black, shrieking voice of help and pleas mixed with an animalistic character. Black smoke were rising from the melting bodies until it all turned into black goo. Riane felt sick to his stomach. He wanted to throw up right there and then but he stopped himself. He steeled himself. This will be soon a normal occurrence when the storm stops. He knew that many people will be infected in the first day.
He went back and he took a long shower. After taking a long shower he called Lito and they start to make plans in the future. In the middle of the night, Riane had a nightmare. In his nightmare, he was a soldier fighting off against a cult. The cult got him as he saved a faceless man. He was tortured and brainwashed. He saw demonic entities and such. After waking up ubruptly, his body was covered in cold sweat. He went out without any suit. He walked in the dead streets, he was drenched with the rain as it continues to pour. After walking for a few minutes, he saw a dog mauling a dead body. The dog seeing him, it charges at him. Riane let the dog bite him. He then grabbed the neck of the dog, with a hard press the dog's head and body separated. He then saw his hand start to heal instantly. He was already infected with the parasite. However his consciousness is still strong. He doesn't feel any pain. He smiled sadly, he knew something that could actually save the country or destroy it. He knew. He then silently went back and slept.
After the week, the storm stopped. Riane thought he was going to die but he survived. His veins were still the same color. The only difference is he got physically stronger and he can heal pretty fast. The thing that he feared the most came through. As the sun blazes through the broken down city, cries of people and the roars of unknown beasts rang. The real chaos starts. Riane and Lito prepared a lot during the week and they were ready to fight those who were infected by the parasite or those people who mutated... The calamity has just begun.
