"Because she deserves better than me," Liam said simply. "You both do. I've realized I'll never be the father she needs. But Michael... he will be. He already is."
I exchanged a glance with Michael, my expression conflicted. Finally, i sighed, sinking into the chair across from Liam. "I don't trust you," i said honestly. "And I don't know if I ever will. But if you're serious about this... then sign the papers."
Liam nodded, pulling a folder from his bag. "I already did."
He slid the folder across the table. Michael picked it up, scanning the documents inside. It was all there—a complete relinquishment of parental rights, signed and notarized. Michael's grip tightened on the folder as he looked at Liam. "If you try to interfere again, there won't be another chance. Do you understand?"
"I understand," Liam said quietly. "I'm not asking for anything in return. Just... take care of her. That's all I ask."
