"They're escalating," i murmured. I set the phone aside and reached for Michael's hand. "But they're desperate, Michael. Desperation means mistakes."
Michael nodded, his eyes lingering on me. "You've been so calm through all of this. How?"
I smiled faintly. "Because I know what we're fighting for. This isn't just about clearing my father's name or protecting the company anymore. It's about this little one." I placed his hand over my belly. "We're building a future for our family. That's what keeps me steady."
Michael exhaled deeply, leaning down to kiss my forehead. "I don't know what I'd do without you."
Before i could respond, i phone buzzed. I picked it up, my brow furrowing as i read James's message.
"It's from James," i said, holding the phone out for Michael to see.
Michael's eyes narrowed. "Do you trust him?"
