"Yes, I understand that, but this isn't about playing it safe," he said to the person on the other end. "I want every possible angle explored. Vanessa has been untouchable for too long, and it's time we put an end to that."
He paused, listening intently, and my curiosity piqued. I wrapped my arms around myself, drawing my knees up as i watched him. The past few weeks had changed everything about my world, and though i was terrified, being here in Michael's space, working alongside him, made me feel stronger. I no longer felt like the timid woman i had been just months before.
As Michael ended the call, he finally looked over at me, his expression softening just slightly when our eyes met. "You're quiet tonight."
