"They won't," i interrupted, though his grip on the phone tightened. "Keep monitoring them. I want updates every hour."

 

"Yes, sir."

 

I ended the call and set the phone down, my jaw clenched. The game was far from over, but the pieces were moving faster than i had expected. I needed to regain control—and fast.

 

 

 

 

 

ISABELLA'S POV:

 

I stirred from my nap later that evening, my hand instinctively resting on my stomach. The ache had subsided, but a lingering fatigue weighed on me. I blinked a few times, my eyes adjusting to the dim light of the room. Michael sat nearby, his laptop open and his expression tense as he reviewed the documents Alden had left.

 

"You're still at it?" I murmured, my voice hoarse.

 

Michael's head snapped up, his features softening as he saw me awake. "You should still be resting."
